It is a good mount for a smart phone.

Although the price may scare you, it is a good mount for a smart phone. I've used it several times with no problems.

Simple, Inexpensive, Works Great!

The Ailun Phone Tripod Mount Adapter works just as described. Form is simple and function is easy and self-explanatory. Works for landscape recording and upright recording. The only improvement I can think of would be to add a few white marks to line up a few different angles exactly, such as 90 and 45 degrees. I have seen other cell-phone tripod mount adapters that look the exact same as this brand. They may perform as well, but I have not utilized them, so I can't compare them. For the price, this is a great phone tripod mount adapter. Watch my video review of this phone tripod mount on Youtube by PsychOtto.

Amazing Adapter

My wife and I went to Fairbanks, AK in February to see the Aurora Borealis. I decided not to pack a camera because my Pixel 4a5G is supposed to have amazing night photo capabilities. I knew it would take a steady hand, so I purchased this. The phone performed as advertised. This adapter made it all possible. We were constantly asked to email our pictures to others that couldn't get any pictures. It helped us meet really cool people from around the country and preserve some amazing memories.

I like this one better than any of the spring loaded mounts that came with the tripods I have.

Many times I find it cumbersome to have to tug at spring loaded cell phone camera tripod mounts. You are holding the phone with one hand and pulling on the top of the mount with the other while trying not to upset the tripod itself. Then you misalign the cellphone while performing the first stunt and the mount presses on the volume or power button on the side of the phone.

Not so with this beauty! No springs. Just a tension knob on top, much like a vice. Turn the knob enough to place the phone in the mount. Then tighten it down slightly to hole the phone securely. I am going to replace all the other cell phone tripod mounts in my fleet with this one. Sturdy, easy to use, simple construction. If you find yourself in a similar situation, you might benefit from this mount.

Great product! Great delivery! Search no longer this is the holder you want for iPhone 10Xs Max

Great product! I went for the least expensive bc sometimes I hit the jackpot & get to save money at the same time. This time I hit it!
Took the holder out of the box and I was sure there was no way it would unscrew to fit my iPhone 10Xs Max with OtterBox case attached (Case is one of the biggest ones they make, sorry I can’t remember name)

Anyway, guess what? It fit perfectly!!! I test mounted it to my ring light. I am a Hand-Tied Extension hairstylist & I make my own videos.

This holder is perfect, my phone is big and it’s a little top heavy when mounted to the screw thingy for the ring light.

Despite being a bit top heavy, it’s totally stable and solid. My ring light was $99.00 here on Amazon. I’ve owned it a year and love it. It’s the perfect setup to record video.

Bonus- I was able to mount the phone without having to remove my pop socket

I’m very happy with the holder! I would definitely buy again.

Inexpensive, affordable device that works better than spring loaded devices.

Here's how I use it:

Background: I occasionally take video with my iPhone while I shoot still photos with a dSLR. Typically I will hold my iPhone under or above the lens while shooting. I wanted a flexible inexpensive system in which I could mount the iPhone or other small video device atop the hot shoe of my camera.

I started with the

Camkix Hot Shoe Mount Adapter Kit - Attach your Phone or GoPro Hero to the Flash Mount of your DSLR Camera - Record your Photo Shoot or use Phone Apps for Lighting, Monitoring or Controlling

for $10.98 on amazon. I chose this over

Fotasy SCX2 1/4-Inch 20 Tripod Screw to Hot Shoe Adapter with Premier Cleaning Cloth (Black)

for $5.69 on amazon because I also wanted the tilt adjustable bracket holder and $10.98 was a good price for the combo. The nice thing about the tilt connector is it allows me to align both the camera and the phone so they are centered over the same subject.

Both parts are metal. No instructions, but it’s pretty intuitive if you’re used to working with tripod brackets. The hot shoe plate is 18x18mm which allows it to rotate within the 19mm wide camera hot shoe. Just tighten the screw nut to prevent motion. Don’t expect this inexpensive system to be firm. Torque from the weight of the iphone/tablet will loosen the connections if shooting handheld unless you use locktite. Generally fine on a tripod, but recheck the tightness of the connections from time to time.

The phone holder that comes with the Camkix hotshoe mount adapter kit is spring loaded plastic. Stretched to its limit, take a fair amount of force using 2 hands, but it will hold an iPhone 7 plus with a thin case. The best way to insert and remove the phone from the bracket is to disconnect the phone holder from the tilt bracket and work on a flat surface so you don’t drop the phone. I use both hands to spread the bracket wide and gently work the 7 plus with slim case into the bracket. It is a tight fit. This bracket is better for phones measuring 2.25-2.5” in width by ¼” thickness (5.5-6.5cm in width x 0.5 cm thick).

The problem with Camkix set up is that the phone projects above and behind the plane of the eyepiece and bumps my forehead when mounted with the phone display facing me. Not a problem for a GoPro facing forward. I decided I wanted to use alternate brackets with the Camkix hot shoe accessory.

I think a better bracket to hold a 7 plus atop the Camkix hot shoe mount adapter kit is

Phone Holder,by Ailun,Phone Tripod Mount Adapter,Compact,Universal for iPhone 7/6/6s,6/6s/7 Plus,SE/5s/5/5c,Samsung Galaxy S8/S7/S7 Edge,S6/S6 Edge,Note 5/4/3 and More Cellphone[Black]

Though this one is also all plastic, it uses a screw mechanism to clamp 7 plus sized phones. It is much easier to use than the CamKix bracket and holds my phone securely. It will hold a 2.25-3.5” wide x 3/8” thick (6-7 cm wide x 1cm thick) device. I can mount the entire Ailun Phone Holder directly on the hotshoe to tripod screw or take the Ailun phone bracket and mount it on the Camkix tilt device. Or I can mount the entire Ailun device on the Camkix tilt device. Lots of flexibility in terms of offsetting the phone from the plane of the viewfinder. Easier to use than the spring loaded plastic phone holder that comes with the Camkix kit

I also use the

Ulanzi iPad Tablet Tripod Mount Adapter Flexible Adjustable Clamp Tablet Holder for iPad Air Pro,Microsoft Surface and Most Tablets (5inch-12inch Screen)Etc.

to hold either iPhone or mini tablets to my dSLR hotshoe. I can hold a tablet in the Ulanzi bracket, but the heavier the tablet on the hot shoe, the more unstable the setup is going to be, especially if doing this handheld. The Ulanzi is also all plastic, but is adaptable for holding phones, minitablets, and full sized tablets. Easily adjustable. There are two places which will accept the ¼”-20 threaded screws – one on the bottom, and a rotating adjustable position mount behind the clamp. The rotating part has click stops but has a little wobble making it a little less useful. I use this to hold my iPhone and tablet high above a long lens so the long lens isn’t visible in the video clip.

Overall, I’m happy with all 3 devices. They give me the flexibility to decide which set up will be best to hold my iPhone, mini-tablet, Go Pro on the hot-shoe of my dSLR for whatever imaging set up I’m using. Inexpensive compared to spending much more for $80 really right stuff aluminum clamps and $50 manfrotto clamps which only accept ¼”-20 tripod screws without the hotshoe-1/4”-20 screw adapters and tilt devices.

Warning: mount this to your SLR hotshoe at your own risk. SLR hotshoes are designed to hold small flashes and not bulky devices like iPhones and iPads.

Using this one for my car.

I'll haft to buy another one because I found another use for this one. I could never find a good phone holder for my car. When I opened the package I knew this would make the perfect phone holder for my car.

Easy to use

Bought this specifically to use on a tripod so that I could take pictures on my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra to take pictures of comet 2020 F3 Neowise. With the way night mode works on the s20 ultra is it takes a time lapse of between 5 and 30 seconds, depending on how much light is available.

The first picture is taken a week earlier with no tripod. You could see the blury stars, and blury horizon background below as I was trying to steady the shot holding it. The second picture was taken with the holder, and you can see that it greatly steadied and sharpened the picture.

Overall it's an easy to use holder. For rotating the phone, it uses a screw system. So you can rotate the phone to where you want and tighten the screw. The part that holds the phone was really nice. Instead of a spring type system that you see in most car type holders. This one uses a long screw type holder. On my Galaxy S20 Ultra, it held the phone easily with regular case on it. And should be able to handle a thicker otter type case also. I also took the width out as far as it can go, and it is pretty future proof since it could hold a phone about 1/2 inch wider.

Does exactly what it should, and better than spring-loaded mounts

I really like this particular mount versus some others I've tried, and I'm buying a second one!

The ability to adjust its rotation is really handy when I'm using it atop a Manfrotto 244 Micro friction arm. I have it mounted almost-permanently on my hutch because I use an app called Camo with my iPhone to have a really high quality webcam for all the virtual meetings we're having in 2020.

The ability to set the width to hold my iPhone and then tighten it *just* enough with the knob makes it super easy to pop my phone in and out when the arm is stationary, and I can always tighten it more if this mount is on something that might move. Seriously, this approach is GREAT versus other mounts that are spring-loaded.

This has gotten a major workout since I got it — I used it at my desk as mentioned, in my vocal booth to record virtual videos for our contemporary caroling group (that you might have seen featured on Good Morning America on Christmas Day 2020, and Christmas Eve 2017-2019!) as well as various Zoom interviews we had (NYC/NJ folks may have seen us on PIX11 on Christmas Eve — and the virtual videos they showed of us + the interview were all using this mount), and in general it's been all over our apartment this year anytime I needed to point my phone's camera at something quickly and easily.

So when I say I'm buying a second one, it's not because this one broke or anything — it's because I've gotten tired of having to unscrew it from the Manfrotto arm to use it elsewhere. Just like any other type of thing like this from these brands, your mileage may vary, of course, but I've had nothing but great success and hope my next one's just as good.

Very good tripod accessory for your phone.

I have a spring tension phone mount and this one with a threaded mount, and the threaded mount is better. The spring tension holds tight, but every time I put my phone into the spring tension there is a bit of a struggle and I feel like any moment it is going to break. With this phone mount, I do not feel that way. The threaded mount is much better and allows me to make it as tight as I would like. A spring mount has one tension and that's it. I don't struggle with this one while mounting the phone. I just spin out the arm put the phone in and tighten it down to the desired pressure. This also allows sliding the phone within the mount much easier as I only have to release a little bit of the screw and slide the phone and then retighten.

This mount has three points you could attach to the tripod base. There is a place to mount on the base, on one end of the adjustable arm, and if you detached the arm from the tension screw you could mount the arm in the back as well. So that is three possible places to attach to the tripod.

You will be able to position your phone at most angles. You can go 360 degrees on a perpendicular plane, and there is a good horizontal range allowing you to achieve most angles within a spherical range. Point being, I think this mount will cover whatever angle at which you'd like to put your phone.

The mount is made of plastic so it is lightweight. I would not say it is flimsy or fragile, but it is plastic. It is reinforced on the main verticle support to provide a sturdy base. The screw rod running through the adjustable arm is metal and provides good support and it is easy to thread.

I'm happy with this purchase.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:Is this spring loaded? I don’t want to squeeze my phone into a clamp.
Answer:No. The screw pushes the plastic ends together and they hold the phone in place.

Question:Can I use a regular screw to attach it to a surface? I.e. does the screw hole work for any size screw (no tripod)
Answer:I do precisely what you're talking about. As other people have mentioned it accepts a 1/4 inch coarse threaded screw, 20 threads per inch (1/4-20).
Because the holder isn't very thick the part of the screw that threads into the holder will only go in about 1/4 of an inch.

Question:Can you flip the orientation of the mount so the phone is on the outside of the clip?
Answer:I couldn't figure out a way to do so because the screw that holds the mount does not come out.

Question:Does it come with the tripod screw?
Answer:Dear buyer,
It comes with 1/4" standard screw which are attachable to any regular sized tripod, monopod and smartphone with standard 1/4" screw thread at the bottom.
I hope the above information is helpful.

Question:Does this fit iPhone 12 pro max with case?

Hope this answer is helpful.

Question:Will I be able to turn my phone sideways with this to record in landscape mode?
Answer:Dear buyer
it can be screwed directly to the tripod with pivoting arm, being able to 360 degrees to rotate. The swivel is also easy to change the smartphone's orientation (360° rotation) when taking pictures
I hope the above information is helpful.

Question:Will it fit on a selfie stick?
Answer:It is designed to fit on a tripod. I don’t own a selfie stick so I can’t say for sure.

Question:Does it fit on an iphone SE in both landscape and portrait mode ?
Answer:I am not familiar with the size of SE I have 8plus but the way it is built allows you to expand or collapse for a secure fit it swivels portrait to landscape. I just looked at mine and when fully closed it’s like 2inches and opens up from there. It can stand on its own but best on Tripod

Question:Will it hold a phone securely if attached to a cart moving over bumpy terrain? I'm intending to use it on a golf cart with no suspension.
Answer:Great question, the phone will remain clamped alright but the mount will likely topple. Perhaps duck tape the mount to Golf cart for the terrain described.
Good luck.

Question:Is it made of plastic or metal?
Answer:The phone mount holder is made of a combination of metal and plastic. I have found it quite durable and am pleased with my purchase. I would buy another.
