Works perfectly - but consider getting the control ring version
Verified Purchase
As expected, this works perfectly to adapt your Canon EF lenses for use on the EOS R. I initially go this one but returned it and went with the control ring adapter. This is essentially the same thing but without the control ring. I wanted the control ring because the RF lenses come with a control ring built in and I wanted to have a consistent user experience whether using RF lenses or EF ones with the adapter. If you don't want to or can't pay the difference, this works flawlessly. No decrease in focus speed or decrease in image quality. In fact, my EF lenses all perform better than ever using this adapter on the EOS R because the R's autofocus is more accurate than DSLRs.

EF Glass on Mirrorless Camera = Awesome

Took forever to get but works like a champ on my R5! It is awesome that I can use Ef glass on my new mirror less lenses! Just have to sell another kidney to buy a RF lens! 😂😂😂

No-brainer requirement for the Canon RP (to use your old Canon Lenses)

The recent deal from Canon throwing in the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R when purchasing the Canon RP was too good to pass up. This was my entry into the full-frame mirrorless world and with an accumulated set of fine EF and EF-S lenses, this was an opportunity to breathe new life into my photographing capabilities. The adapter is fantastic - in the sense that it does nothing other than pass everything from the lens to the sensor. Pictures are truly remarkable. Amateur that I am, I'm not even sure how much more I can improve upon the pictures even if I ended up getting the dedicated RF-mount lenses. If like me you have some lenses from the past that you splurged on and are contemplating getting the Canon R or RP, I doubt you will ever regret it.

Canon Branded Equipment Overflows with Quality
Verified Purchase
Still waiting for camera & EF-L lens so I cannot speak to actual usage yet. However, just the packaging alone blew me away, the cardboard box was heavy, not cheap, then there was a pouch made of bubble wrap, then a plastic bag and ANOTHER plastic bag. Finally, the adapter was preserved in a very nice, heavy denier nylon pouch, Canon logo, with a soft inside. The unit has a serial # and there is a warranty card included, both ends have dust covers, the adapter itself has a plastic exterior. I'm amazed how much quality went into a simple $99 adapter. Glad I went with Canon over a 3rd party.

Amazing piece

Fantastic product. Again - it's original Canon so - you get your quality. It's the cheapest adapter you can get for your RF mount camera. I have my EOS R. My biggest lens I use with this mount is Canon 17-40mm. It sits like glued. I had a 3rd party adapter and it was a bit flimsy. There was super tiny bit of movement after the lens was mounted. Not the case here. It's Canon, it's made to last. 99 dollars in camera world is NOTHING to have piece of mind. Great product.

Must-have lens adapter
Verified Purchase
This adapter allows you to use Canon EF compatible lenses with EOS R and RP cameras. It's worked perfectly with every lens I've tried on the EOS RP that also worked on my old 7D, even Sigma and other third-party lenses. If you decide to try out the EOS R series of Canon full-frame cameras, it's well worth owning this adapter even if you don't already own any full-frame lenses. There's a huge catalog of existing Canon EF compatible lenses and they tend to be cheaper than the few native RP lenses available at the moment. Highly recommended.

Great for using EF lenses on EOS R cameras

Came brand new. Works as hoped for when adapting EF lenses to the EOS R camera line. Brought to life the lenses that I had for my Canon 5D. What amazed me was the ability to use third party lenses like the Sigma Art lenses and obtaining tack sharp focus. The only drawback is there is a loss of focusing points when using the Sigma Art lenses, about 20%, but that's not a major problem since most of the shots taken are in that 80% box. When using continuous focus there is an audible sound of the EF lens focusing, which is expected.

Works, but not easy change

I just jumped into the mirrorless camera game, and wanted to be able to use my DSLR collection - particularly my primes. This did the trick, but it's a little hard to twist on and off.

Tried it with my 50-1.8, and my 75-300, and both worked flawlessly on the new camera. Extra points for it being made of metal and not plastic. It should last.

Does what it is supposed to.

It was just fine adopting 70-300 IS USM EF lens to my EOS RP. Autofocus functions as expected. The only thing is the lens makes that strange noise while focusing (or maybe it is stabilizer?) that I don't think it made when it was used on Rebel XT body. But everything works fine and I no longer have Rebel XT to compare.

Don't get this from Woodland Hill Camera
Verified Purchase
I returned this to Woodland Hill Camera and they charged me a hefty $36.80 restocking fee. Otherwise the Mount Adapter was fine, just wanted the control ring version.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:What, exactly, is the difference between the $99 vers and the $199 vers?
Answer:Other than the obviously specified inclusion of a programmable control ring, other differences "exactly" include a weight difference:
Non-ring Adapter: 110.56 grams
Ring-equipped adapter: 130.41 grams
"near-exact" difference = 19.85 grams

Additionally there is a cost per gram difference:
Non-ring Adapter = $0.90/g
Ring-equipped adapter = $ 1.53/g (costs more, so gotta be better)

Additionally, there is the gadget superiority index difference factor: Those who spring for the ring-equipped version get to brag that their toy has more "bells & whistles".

Finally, the ring-equipped version just looks "cooler" than the "plain-Jane" model. It's subtle, but significant "eye-candy" in the right social setting. It's like arriving at the club in a C-Class vs. arriving in a "S-Class". Those who know the difference will notice, and those who don't, don't matter anyway.

Question:Does this adapter affect autofocus of the R series cameras under challenging conditions--like a bird in flight against busy background?
Answer:The adapter has no glass, its main function is to set the proper distance between the sensor and the EF lens.

Question:will this adapter work with sigma 18-35mm f1.8 art dc hsm lens for canon and will work with sigma 30mm f1.4 contemporary dc dn lens for sony e ?
Answer:This adapter should work with the sigma 18-35mm for Canon EF mount but the image won't cover all of a full-frame sensor because DC lenses are made for smaller APS-C sized sensors. You can enable crop mode in your EOS R camera to only use part of the sensor.

No, this adapter is not for Sony mount lenses.

Question:funciona para auto focus en grabación de Video
Answer:Si, funciona

Question:Is the black body of this adapter metal or plastic? (I understand both mounts are metal, but is the black portion made of plastic or metal?) Thanks.
Answer:Its metal

Question:Will this Adapter mount on the canon m50?
Answer:No. The M50 is M mount. This adapter is for only R mount bodies.

Question:Will this work with the Rokinon 14mm F/2.8 lens?
Answer:Yes, I have that exact lens (manual focus) for the EF mount and it works well.

I cannot speak for the autofocus version.

Question:Will various 3rd part lenses (sigma 8-16, sigma 18-35 and tamron 18-400) work with canon mount adapter ef-eos r on canon r and canon ra body?
Answer:Its a little bit tricky. Any lens made for the canon ef mount system will work with the canon adapter, however some of those third party lenses are not made for full frame cameras. If the third party lens is not meant for full frame you will have vignette. If it is made as a substitute for ef-s, you will have a resolution downgrade. EF-s lenses even Canons, can be used on the r or rp but because of different configuration, the cameras will recognize it and the resolution of your photo will only be about 11 mp. I realize all that is confusing but if the third party lens is made for canon ef mount and for full frame, it will work fine on the r series.

Question:If the adapter is used with an ef lens with there be any sacrifice in quality? or is the ef-s the only one that will crop?
Answer:No loss of quality when used with EF lenses

Question:will this work for a canon compact-macro lens ef 50mm 1:2.5?
Answer:Yes. This will allow you to use the lens you mentioned or any other EF lens on any Canon R camera such as the EOS R, RP, R5, R6. The lens will function perfectly. You can also use EF-S lens, but those will be at a reduced resolution. The EF 50mm macro will function at full resolution since it is an EF lens.
