Will fast charge an iPhone XS Max

It charges my iPhone Xs Max at 18w (see photo). Using the Apple usb-c to lightning 1m cable and my phone at 65% battery. The only issue I have is it’s large enough to block the door on my center console. I can’t close the door when this charger is plugged in.

Works as promised! Car Charger DOES fast charge iPhones. Only enabled at lower battery levels.

I purchased the below Anker products to get fast charging for my iPhone Xs Max. I'm writing this review after I performed a few different tests. As soon as I received my 5-port charger, I connected the USB-C to Lightning cable and was expecting to hear a double-beep. I didn't, nor did I see any notification that my iPhone was fast charging.

I started doing some research and decided to download an iOS app called "Amperes Lite" which shows you the current status of battery charging on your iOS device.

Test 1: I connected a standard USB to Lightning cable. Max wattage was 9.52. My battery level was already at 90% when I started this test.

Test 2: I connected the NEW Anker USB-C to Lightning cable. The max wattage was still 9.52. The battery level was still at 90%. This is when I was expecting a double-beep or some notification stating that my iPhone was fast charging. But nothing. So I hit up the internet. Basically, it seems that any Apple device that supports fast charging ONLY does so when the battery level is really low. Not only this but fast charging continues till about 75% full then slows down. At this point, I decided to drain my battery and try again later.

Test 3: With the battery now below 20%. I then connected the Anker USB-C to lighting cable to the PD port on the 5-Port and ran the test again on my app. SUCCESS. The results showed a max charge rate of 14.28 watts. I don't know what all this means but I do know that my battery was around 10-15% when I connected the charger. I went to brush my teeth, get ready for some meetings and when I came back about 30 minutes later, my battery was near 80% charged.

So there you have it. It does work but you might not hear a double-beep or see some screen notification. By the way, I also confirmed this with the car charger connected to the PD port.

Anker is a great company with good products they stand behind

Updating my previous review that described this as a charger that would not fast charge.... That was in fact the case with my first charger i received , BUT anker quickly reached out to me for support and sent me a replacement unit that works as described!!!

I was very impressed with this customer service and they also let me keep the first one. I have since given that charger to my wife to has with her phone with a standard usb to lightning and she raves at how much faster that one is over her previous car charger.

I tested the charger with both the type c and type a usb and the standard type a port matches the iPad charger in Watts which is outstanding. You’ll get 50 percent in about 30 minutes with type c fast charge and about 40 minutes with your standard type a cable which is still works better than the Apple og brick that only charges at 5w vs 9-12 for this car charger with type a and 19-29 with an oem Apple type c to lightning .

Replacement Works Great!

UPDATE to the UPDATE: Anker Support is awesome. Got my replacement device and everything is peachy now! Special Thanks to Amore at Anker Direct Support! Kudos to you!

UPDATE: Support has been great!!! They reached out so we can try a replacement charger. Stay tuned!

So I'm using two of these chargers, one in my wife's car and one in my own car with our Pixel 3s. The charging on the phone shows "Charging rapidly" which is what I wanted to see. So far so good, until you actually use the phone for phone calls. The phone still shows charging, but the battery begins to slowly deplete. We both noticed this behavior. We both use Anker USB-C cables so I'm not concerned about possible inferior cable quality. Additionally, if I use the USB builtin to the car for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, the phone shows "Charging slowly" but actually charges the phone without issue.

Confirmed double beep quick charge iPhone XS Max

I can confirm this version of this adapter (with the little circle that lights up next to the usbc) does double beep quick charge an iPhone XS Max. The version before this without the circle light does not double beep so is not true quick charge. I get very annoyed by reviews that say quick charged in X minutes, if it doesn’t double beep when plugged in under 80% charge then it’s not true quick charge.

Does what I needed it do. Charging while intense use!!!

I was looking for a new car charger because I have been doing Dash Cam for years and my old car chargers would still lose power while it was recording (several percent, but better than no power, as that would die fast). This not only does NOT lose power, it charges while recording video! All my tests used Genuine Apple cables.

Day 1 Test: See if it maintains the charge. This is using the USB-A port to my iPhone 7. It stayed at 100% for an hour to work and an hour back home recording video in 4k as Dash Cam (before it'd be down to 80% on my old charger).
Day 2 Test: See if would charge while in heavy use. Started test with 95% battery and recorded 4k Video on my commute. Again USB-A to my iPhone 7. When I got to work it was 100%. Very pleased to see that.
Day 3 Test: Test Dual Charging. USB-A to iPhone 7 while recording 4K video and USB-C to iPhone X. Both phone down several percent. Saw both charging, so it does provide enough power to charge 2 devices. My iPhone 7 from 95% to 100% and my iPhone X from 65% to 89% on a 35 minute drive.

Only thing I didn't test was Fast Charging, but I never let my phones get low where it requires Fast Charging.

Pros: Dual Charging. Powers devices even while in heavy use. Power indicator is not that bright (not blinding at night). Tight Socket fit. Great Price at $13 compared to competitors at $25.

Cons: None that I can think of so far...…

I'd buy again!!!

iPhone XR fast charge double beep/ding confirmed!! Great quality charger!!

Using this PD car charger with an Anker USB C to lightning cable and it works great with my iPhone XR!!~ When plugged in below 80% battery, my iPhone XR beep/ding as normal followed by a second beep/ding confirming PD fast charge. Folks, as for the iPhone fast charge double beep/ding, the time interval between the 1st & 2nd beep/ding is 5~6 seconds so do not be concerned if you don't hear a quick "ding-ding". It'll be a "ding----------------------ding". :o)

I haven't had a chance to fully test the "50% in 30 mins fast charge" but based on what I've seen in the past week of use, I've noticed the battery percentage climb up faster compared to my 12W Anker car charger (PowerDrive+ 2) that this new PD charger replaced. Along with the double beep/ding, I have no doubt I can get 50% in 30 mins charge performance from this charger.

I have used a wide variety of Anker products (chargers, cables, batteries, etc.) for many years and they never disappoint!! High quality performance!! :o)

Works great, would recommend

Use this for a pixel 3 XL with USB-C and the normal USB port for my Bluetooth receiver in the car. Both connections are tight and power the devices great. Bought this to replace another brand Amazon no longer sells, which was sold to me with a sloppy loose normal USB port. This one is awesome, and connections are tight n not sloppy. Phone charges fast. LED on the charger is a nice touch so I know it's plugged in.

Another great Anker product!

I've been a big fan of Anker's products for several years. I have battery packs, wireless headphones, and cables that have all been awesome. This is another one that doesn't disappoint. I have a Pixel 3, and one of my complaints was slow charging in the car, especially if I'm using it for navigation or something where there's constant drain on the battery (screen on being the biggest). Often times my charger couldn't even keep my battery level from continuing to reduce. So I began the hunt for something with fast charge capabilities, that wouldn't set my car on fire. This thing works great! I can plug in on a short drive, and get a quick few % of juice, and on a longer drive, arrive at my destination with a full battery.

Obviously, using fast charge makes your phone get hotter. I was already having problems with my phone overheating when in my dash mount in the sun. So I got another mount that is out of the sun and it's no problem now. Also, don't cheap out on your usb cables. They are not all the same. Anker makes some really nice braided cables, which I highly recommend.
