I've messed around with 3rd party re-filled toner and ink cartridges in the past. Ultimately, it's not worth the perceived savings. Either the refilled cartridge didn't work nearly as long as the OEM or sometimes not at all. I installed the new cartridge and everything is working perfectly once again.
My only criticism would be that Brother includes pre-paid shipping labels to return the old cartridge back to them. They claim it's to keep them out of the landfills. I suspect they refill and re-sell these same cartridges to others. I'd be more willing do do this if they gave me some sort of discount on future cartridges - especially since they will in turn be benefiting financially from my efforts in returning their cartridge.

DO NOT USE AFTERMARKET CARTRIDGES!
I was only using original cartridges at first but of course the cost was just to much so I figured I would use the aftermarket ones. Bad Idea!! It worked somewhat for a little while but it had a slight line going down the side that was very annoying. So I bought another cartridge thinking it was a bad aftermarket one and the second one leaked all inside of the printer and ruined the printer. So not only did I spend more money than I would have just buying the original ones it completely ruined the printer too because the black powder was all in everything causing it to smear constantly. Now with a new printer I absolutely will not use an aftermarket cartridge. I hope you all will learn from my mistake. But really the cost of these are way to much. You can almost buy a new printer every time you need new ink. Please figure something else out printer manufacturers.

I tried my hand at some replacement on my older ink jet and it was a waste. I did not bother on the copies with this laser printer. BTW black has standard yield only. The color cartridges have high yield. I do not know why this is, given that black should have been high capacity.
Also like my ink jet, this printer also has the ability to reset cartridge usage count. Got this off a website (Precision Roller - giving them credit). Steps below:
1. Ensure the printer your Brother multifunction unit is switched on. If the machine is not in sleep mode, an image should appear on the LCD display.
2. Hint: It is easier to press the fax key at this time and note the location of the Asterisk key before opening the printer lid. Once the printer lid is open, the keypad will no longer be illuminated.
3. Open the printer lid of your Brother MFC-9340 (and related models).
4. Press and hold the Asterisk key for five (5) seconds. Even though the keypad is not illuminated with the printer lid open, the asterisk key does still function.
5. A new menu should appear on your Brother’s LCD display.
6. The LCD display should now show different options based on toner color as well as cartridge capacity. Select the printer cartridge that you would like to reset. A table is provided below to assist in selecting the correct toner cartridge to reset.

If you zoom in on the photo, make sure it has the Brother logo on it and find a picture of something you know to be a Brother toner cartridge and compare what you want to buy with that one.
