Best quality disks I have ever seen
I've been using printable disks for the past 3 years or so. Whenever I buy I do a fair amount of research trying to find the best disk because I want them to look nice and I don't mind paying a few bucks extra. I also hate throwing away disks halfway through the spindle because I find something else better.
Print at home disks have been a mixed bag for me. Both the matte and glossy stick-on labels are of mediocre quality. After that, I switched to the Taiyo Yuden printable disks (similar to these), but in matte finish. This was an improvement in quality, but still not great. The matte disks just turn out dull and not very crisp to me. I figured that was just a result of printing at home and learned to live with it.
Now that the matte disks have run out I have bought these and am extremely impressed. The color vibrance and image sharpness is exceptional. It's easily on par with a glossy photo print you get from a quality print lab. They are miles ahead of the matte disks in image quality. I use an Epson Artisan 710 printer along with the Epson disk printing software and have no problems with these disks. The ink dries quickly and doesn't smudge when I take it out of the disk tray.
Taiyo Yuden also has an established reputation as a top quality disk maker. The last 100-count spindle of Taiyo Yuden disks I went through burned 100% perfectly. I trust these will perform similarly.
For at home printing, these are THE disk to get.

They just get the job done. Each and every time. Perfect execution with these
I dont burn a lot of cd/dvd, but I do for making home movies or slide show presentations from vacations. in the past I would use normal discs and then print on a sticker label. That label would then get placed onto the discs. Not a fan of that, and sometimes it seems to have unbalanced a disc within the drive. So pleased to have made the swith to printable discs. And most know TY are some (if not the) best out there.
Pros:
- flawless burn every time. Not a single bad burn
- the "printability" of them is very nice. Is it highest grade possible? I dunno, but very good for home use, or to seriously jazz up those home movie presentation (using Canon printer)
- reasonably priced
Cons:
- I ran out of them two quickly
Note: if you would like to ask questions or see more info my review, please ask away and I will update.

Worth The Price
I am a photographer that was looking for a way to replace lightscribed client CDs. I heard about printable CDs so I purchased an
Epson Artisan 835 Color Inkjet All-In-One (C11CA73201)
and did a test print on the Memorex printable CD that was included in the package. I wasn't too impressed with the look so I went online to look for a glossy printable CD and found the Taiyo Yuden Watershield DVD-R. It was expensive but compared to getting CDs printed online the cost wasn't too bad.
Once I actually printed onto the DVD and compared it to the Memorex there was no comparison on which one was better. The colors were vibrant and text was crisp. The Memorex CD was dull and cheap looking while the Taiyo Yuden DVD looked professionally done. My only concern is that it was somewhat easily scratched but it may be because I was too anxious to test it that I did not leave it much time to dry.
Compared to lightscribe CDs these are much more professional looking and are definitely worth the price.

They bring out the "wow" factor
I printed my first DVDs last night. They are absolutely gorgeous--literally as pretty as a picture! I imported a full sized JPEG photo from Aperture and printed using the DVD glossy option for my Epson Stylus Photo R3000. The result is just as pretty as any photo I might print on glossy photo paper. Plus, I no longer have to change ink to "Matte Black (MK) as I would if I were using standard printable DVDs. Although I have treated them carefully immediately after printing, this might not be necessary. The ink seems to dry immediately. These DVDs allow me to present my work product at another level of professionalism. They definitely bring out the "wow" factor--even for people who are used to seeing printable DVDs.

Absolutely Stunning Output and Incredibly Durable
I bought these optical discs for 2nd tier data archiving after having had several hard drives AND RAID drives go south on me. Additionally, I wanted to print full color visual keys to help differentiate the discs from one another and decided on the
Epson Artisan 837 Wireless All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax, iOS/Tablet/Smartphone/AirPrint Compatible (C11CB20201)
.
Everything arrived quickly and properly packaged (not always the case). Setup took 20 minutes. I designed a test DVD cover, popped one of these babies into the printer, hit print and 30 seconds later: WOW!
Absolutely stunning color and detail- nods to Epson for that as well.
BUT
I noticed a few typos I missed in my zeal to see the final output. So it's Trashtime for this disc. Unfortunately, I had some sensitive info on the printed cover I wanted to remove. The disc had had about and hour or 2 for drying. This is what I did to try and remove the info from the printed surface of the disc:
1. Water: Under the faucet. Cold water. Hot water: NOTHING (This was printed by an inkjet right?)
2. Mineral Spirits: NOTHING (Not even the slightest smear.)
3. Ethyl Alcohol: NOTHING (What?! No smudges here either.)
4. Acetone: NOTHING (You've got to be kidding me! This will dissolve just about everything plastic I own!)
5. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (basically paint stripper): NOTHING (I think the disc was laughing at me at this point.)
I WAS finally able to scrape off the irksome info with my trusty utility knife.
So, what's my feeling about the durability of the printing surface of these Taiyo Yuden discs? INCREDIBLE! VERY!

These DVD’s record fine, no coasters so far. My old Casio Printer that prints directly on the top surface of silver DVD’s works well with these white DVD’s.

Great graphics printing with these discs.
Very professional looking graphics printing on these discs. The white glossy surface yields very vivid colors.
As far as burning to the discs, I'm about 40 discs through a 50 disc spindle of the 4.7 GB DVD-R and not one coaster.
Remember when printing to set the hub non-printing area to about 0.87" as that is about the area that can't be printed to.

Glossy Photo Paper Finish
I have used this brand name many times before, but in the matte finish. This product has a glossy photo paper finish that gives the DVD/CD label a beautiful reproduction. Top quality appearance. Also, this brand has a production reputation that is the tops. I have yet to experience a bad DVD. This is the best in my opinion. And, it comes at a great price. By the way, I always burn at a slow 6 to 8 burn speed. It doesn't take that much longer and it assures me of a successful burn.

Great looking finish
Have used these disk many times before with very few costers. The print surface is excellent for ink jet printers,Gives a glossy finish to the printed surface. Even though they are called water shield, I would not be running water on the printed side and normal handling should keep the surface looking great for any number of years. Only downside is the cost of this product as comparable to normal printable surfaces.
Would recommend this product

Question & Answer
Question :
Is Taiyo Yuden Watershield similar to Verbatim Hard Coat? Is watershield resistant to scracthes and rough handling.
Answer :
Yes, Verbatim Hard Coat has better scratch resistance and Taiyo Yuden Watershield looks better when printed but there are more important things to consider. Taiyo Yuden has a lower failure rate when they are written. They also have a longer data retention time. The data on DVD's just like tapes fades with time. When I first started burning DVD's there was no way to tell what the retention time would be. Name brand vendors would change where they were manufactured based on price. One company I bought DVD's from switched vendors but not labeling, part numbers or packaging. The new DVD's became unreadable after about 3 years. About 3 years ago I did a lot of research and at the time Taiyo Yuden were the most reliable I could find. All the DVD's I've burned since that tested OK at the time still work fine. I'm sure there are other good companies out there but these work and for me it's not time to find out about the others.
Question :
What about scratching the ink off of the printed surface? I use a canon mx922 and bought verbatim CD-Rs and the ink scratched off with my fingernail.
Answer :
No u can not scratch it off with ur fingernail. It can scratch because it is like any painted surface. But they do take some abuse. And they will not run when they get wet. These r the best u can gat and they are worth the money.
Question :
Are you still shipping the jvc / made in japan disks "j-dmr-wpp-sb16-ws1" or the "cmc" made in tiawan?
Answer :
Currently JVC, limited stock available.
Question :
Are these overkill if you're just using them to burn photos or videos. I have Macs and been using Verbatim which have been excellent….no rejects.
Answer :
Not overkill for me. I print on these, and the result is shiny, almost as good as photo paper. I have used hundreds of these, and never have a reject; they are so good, I don't even check them. I make videos for church, school, and family events. I still have DVDs from 2 or 3 years back that still play fine. Back in the older days, DVDs would go bad, especially if they had an adhesive label. These don't go bad. My printer is an Epson Artist 50 - a less than $100 printer. If looks of your discs don't matter, you can write with felt-tip on anything that works.
Question :
The official company's website doesn't have these dvds listed at all nor there's any info about it. how do we know its a genuine product?
Answer :
Thanks for the question. This product was picked up by CMC after they purchased Taiyo Yuden's Japanese production, and brought their equipment and engineering team to Taiwan. Its a niche product, really aimed at professional users needing to account for drives in all states of alignment in the field. So, its never been a retail-centric product. The users who buy this product on Amazon have come out of the historical customer-base for this product, and know to identify the product by packaging and its unique green Cyanine dye material. That said, its niche enough where I don't suspect the volume for this product would make making a knock-off version a viable business. Secondly, the packaging for the watershield is really unique, so to go to the efforts to copy it would be hard to do. Finally, Amazon fully guarantees what you buy, and we ship most of this product from Amazon facilities, so you are protected by Prime. If we sold a knockoff you would see it in our seller ratings. I hope that helps!
Question :
The photo on the Amazon listing says "CDR White Watershield" Shouldn't it say DVR?
Answer :
I think they are saying that these discs are CD-Rs (as opposed to DVD-Rs)and the covers are made from the "white watershield". That makes it shiny and waterproof.
Question :
Am I missing something or how does it run a disc through the inkjet? This is new to me. Thanks!
Answer :
Printing on this disc requires an inkjet printer capable of printing on discs. Assuming that your printer can, I would suggest checking the printer user manual for instructions on how to print on a disc. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R280 which is an older printer but works well for me. It has a disc feed mechanism built into the tray area where paper exits after being printed on. Usually there is a separate utility by the printer manufacturer that also must be installed. If you don't have your printer manual, you should be able to search for one on the web. While I was learning, I did some testing on plain printer paper until I got the hang of it - this helped me avoid wasting discs due to bad printing. Hope this helps you get started.
Question :
Want to confirm that this is j-dmr-wpp-sb16-ws1 The picture has a different number. I ordered from you before and the reorder number is 702wpppws16
Answer :
Randy, I got the JVC watershield and they work beautifully, never a burn failure and nice glossy finish with beautiful colors with my Epson inks.
If you'll look at that illustrations closely, you'll notice that a picture of CD R blanks.
I'm sure you'll get the date thing you previously ordered.
Question :
I was told that moserbaer glossy cds and dvds don't play well in top loading players. would that be the same with these cmc pro watershield ones?
Answer :
Hi,
Pardon the wait.
I played four cd's, on Watershield disks today. There is no problem with Watershield.
Watershield is a pricey disk that allows you with a disk printer to print on the white surface without smudging.
If I was a large volume printer, I would recommend TY Watershield disks.
Good luck finding the right disks.

Question :

Answer :
