I have a few solar watches. I am careful not to put them in a closed, dark drawer, and leave them out so that they can charge by the light of the room. For the most part, this has worked reasonably well.
Then I bought a high-end watch, with a large internal battery, and I found that a little exposure to room light wasn't cutting it. I tried leaving it in the bathroom with all the lights on full, and after a week, it hardly made a dent. Even worse, a little research revealed that with this particular watch, if it ever runs completely out of power it has to be sent in for servicing. (Yeah, I don't like that either, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't mentioned in the brochure.)
I go on Amazon, and find this little puppy. I ordered it, and when it (eventually) came, I plugged it in and put my watch face down on its rubber surface. Two days later, the giant battery showed half-full, which is a miracle, because a week in the bathroom didn't achieve that. A day or two later, and it was full.
No heat, lots of light that solar panels can effectively use, doesn't use much power, silent, won't scratch your watch, and relatively inexpensive.
What's not to like?
Seriously, if you are on the fence, just buy it. They could make it nicer, by putting it in a wooden case, adding fabric accents, a monogram, whatever. But, the basic functionality is there, and that's really all you need.

I wish I had researched this when I bought my watch several years ago. It must have never been fully charged from the time it was shipped. It seemed like it was always showing a medium or low charge in the winter - or if my sleeve covered it for a day. I compensated. I kept my sleeve above the watch, I sat it in the window in full sunshine. In the summer it typically showed a full charge after a day outside but it just didn't last.
CoolFire to the rescue! On the day I received it, I sat my watch on it overnight. It didn't synchronize the time (I usually set it on a brass lamp that seems to act like a receiving antenna.) but in the morning it showed a full charge. Being a bit skeptical, I charged it overnight the next night as well. I haven't used the CoolFire again and my watch is still showing a full charge. I haven't worried about my sleeves. It does the trick! I have the CoolFire in a standby-ready state in the nightstand drawer.
The charger comes with two adapters to fit the watch face size. The large one worked fine with mine. I positioned it near my bed and was not bothered at all by a very minimal light leak which I was able to "aim" away from me. The only negative I not is that it only comes with a USB power cord. You must supply the outlet adapter or plug it into a computer USB port.
