If you are looking here you already know that Nikon does not sell a replacement collar for the 200-500. When the knurled knob on the adjusting screw on my collar broke I had to find a replacement and fast, This collar did the trick nicely. It is sturdy, fits well, and was easy to place. It has remained snug with no need for adjustment.

One negative note. If you like to quickly adjust from landscape to portrait by loosening the collar and pivoting the camera you may want to pay the additional money for a Really Right Stuff 200-500 collar. The only shortfall I see in this one is that the pivot from LS to port and back is not as fluid as I would like.

One comical note: Amazon asked me to rate this collar for "sheerness". Not sure why anyone would care about that but if you do, it is not sheer. ;)

Outstanding Tripod Collar, this is what Nikon should put on their lens.

Love this collar! No more need for additional plates for use with an Arca Swiss clamp. The collar is very well made, and the bottom foot is long enough to get four fingers wrapped around it. Awesome value!

Solid fit and good value for the money

Wanted an Arca Swiss friendly designed foot in order to not have to add an accessory plates to tripod collars. This fit the bill just fine. Fit is solid in my RRS, Induro, and Promaster heads. The stops to help prevent the lens from sliding off the end of the mounting plate are appreciated. My Black Rapid attachment can be screwed to the foot from the top when mounting the lens to a tripod or monopod.

Better replacement than the original

Love the length of the foot and built in arca mount on this collar. Makes it easier to hand hold plus has built in strap loop on the front of the foot. Very sturdy, and mostly used on my wimberly monopod gimbal mount where the longer foot help out with the balance of the Nikon 200 - 500 lens when zoomed out to 500mm.

Great replacement collar for the NIkon 200-500 f/5.6E VR Lens

The fit and finish on the collar are top notch. The rotation seems smooth, and it is very nice to have the Arca plate built in rather than rely on a separate plate. I also asked a question here prior to purchasing the vendor got back with me right away.

I was about to spend over $200 on the kirk collar then I saw this one for less then half the price and decided to give it a try. I am very happy I did, this collar is very good quality and does the job. Highly recommend.

A big improvement over the Nikon mount!

I was a little nervous when I ordered this, but it is really nicely made. With the factory mount you have to attach an Arca Swiss plate, and the screw that attaches the plate invariably works it way loose, so you are constantly tightening it. This solves that problem elegantly. Highly recommended.

Feeling buying it? Just do it

At first i was kind of doubt its was going to work well beacuse of the price tag but after checking the almost $200 version on B&H i was like what the heck. So I order it and when i tru it on my lens it fit perfectly even better the the original one so if this help someone with the same problem as mine just get it you won’t be disappointed.

This is an excellent value

I confirm what the three other reviewers (at this writing) say. It is well made and fits perfectly. The attention to detail and finish are excellent. I cannot imagine what a more expensive version would provide that this doesn't.

Nice improvement over stock foot

Works great on my Nikon 200-500. Great improvement over the stock unit. I don't understand why Nikon can't make a good tripod foot. It is like their Achilles Heel hahahaha. But seriously, if you have a 200-500, get this.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:What material is it made from?
Answer:Appears to be all metal to me. Certainly it is every bit as sturdy as the original Nikon collar, but the longer foot makes all the difference in the world. I like mine a lot and use it both on a ball head and on a gimbal head. Works great and seems plenty rugged.

Question:Is this more rigid than the original one? The Nikon collar has considerable flex.
Answer:It is much more rigid than the original collar.

Question:is there a longer foot available for this mount ring?
Answer:Sorry, we don't have the the mount ring with longer foot.

Question:Is it as smooth or smoother that the nikon collar? my nikon one is not smooth at all!
Answer:Its smooth. A little bit stronger than the Nikon collar. I was very impressed with the build. I put the Nikon collar in the LMR box in case I ever sell the lens. Hope this helps.

Question:Does the lens collar base plate have enough travel to use on a Gimbal for perfect balance?
Answer:Yes. I've balanced my D500 with grip and 200-500 perfectly on my Benro gimbal

Question:Has anyone found a longer foot that fits this collar? D500 won't balance on a gimbal with fully extended lense and hood. Needs another ~ 1/2"
Answer:You can place it on a long foot. It appears to be a nice collar for the price. a Nikon is aver $200. Love the built in ARCA bracket mount.

Question:How long is the foot?
Answer:Sorry. It is 4 inches long

Question:What is the inside diameter of the collar?
Answer:This ring is dedicated to Nikon 200-500 lenses, other lenses are not applicable

Question:would this work with a nikon 500mm PF ?
Answer:It can't be used for nikon 500mm PF.

Question:Is there material inside the collar to prevent scratching the lens or is it metal on metal?
Answer:There is plastic part on the metal.
