I own two colors (OD green and black) of the smaller size displays and they work great with the velcro-backed patches. I use velcro dots for ones that don’t have hook backs already on them and they work perfectly. One word of advice, though… If you think you are going to be starting a patch collection, opt for the larger sizes because these fill up quickly!
