Great Product!

I bought this speaker grill cloth to make my ugly speakers a little less ugly. I have been working to give new life to my dad's old McIntosh System from the late seventies. The speakers had seen better days. After having the woofers re-coned, I decided to focus on the grill covers. Actually the first step was convincing the wife to let them in the house, lol. The first picture shows what they looked like when new. The ML-2M (M for Mediterranean Cabinet Design) had a green curtain behind the grill covers. Mine had deteriorated over the years so I decided to try the black grill cloth. I taped off the back of the grill leaving an area to spray 3M adhesive spray. That stuff dries faster than I expected. You have to work fast. My wife helped me stretch the cloth out over the back onto the area sprayed with adhesive. Then we trimmed around the edges to remove excess. The order came with enough fabric to cover all 4 speaker grills. Fairly simple project and I didn't have to spend a lot of money. The grill cover has been on for several weeks and still looks good. So, yes it's still a dated and somewhat ugly speaker cabinet compared to modern equipment. However the grill cloth makes it look a little cleaner and neater while it protects the speakers from dust and pet hair. As a 40 year old system, the McIntosh still sounds great and I enjoy the nostalgia of listening to my dad's system that filled our home with music as I was growing up. I would buy this grill cover product again!

Great Speaker Grill Cloth (and Pseudo Air Filter)
Verified Purchase
Quick summary: I've purchased this speaker grill cloth on two separate occasions, used it for four total grills and one air filter, and they've all turned out wonderful.

This stuff is very high quality, and is a little thicker than what comes with most speakers, but I like the thickness better this way, as it feels more substantial/durable. It's acoustically transparent but visually opaque. In one situation, I even used it as a sort of pre-filter for an A.C. return, as a media room build required that the return air flow be channeled directly through the open center section of a custom media center built-in, and the air flow was causing excessive dust buildup on a few gaming systems directly in its path. To remedy the situation, this speaker grill cloth was installed on a frame and attached to the front of open section of the media center with magnets. Doing so completely fixed the dust issues; it made it easy to quickly vacuum the dust off of the speaker grill cloth before it got to the gaming systems, but added minimal air flow restrictions to the A.C. return. Further, in addition to the gaming systems behind the speaker grill cloth air filter, there're also LED accent lights to visually indicate when certain media equipment that's placed in a separate dedicated media closet is turned on, and you can only see the gaming systems' lights and accent LEDs through the speaker grill cloth when they're turned on, while being completely concealed when everything is turned off.

Excellent Combination of Strength and Elasticity
Verified Purchase
The Jet Black Speaker Grill Cloth 60 Inch x 36 Inch, A-569 was purchased as part of a refurbishing project for my 32 year old KEF Reference 104/2s. The original cloth had greyed with age and one grill displayed the scars inflicted by a pet cat.

The new grill cloth displayed an excellent combination of strength and elasticity. I found navigating the curves and contours of the KEF 104/2 grill frames difficult and had to return and reposition sections of the cloth several times in order to get it right. The cloth held up well through the abuse and I was very happy with the finished appearance.

Perfect for a accent on 3d printer if you could imagine
Verified Purchase
Been working on a 3d printer project, and got inspired by some other fellow hobbyist. So wen't looking for some speaker fabric. Perfect accent for lower trim, easy to work with, and played nicely with super glue.

Not your typical use case but wanted something to hide wiring and still allow for some airflow for cooling and this fit the bill for that.

Would say if your installing this since it's some kind of plastic/polymer taking a lighter to the edges real quick will prevent from any fraying and leave you with a clean edge.

Good quality at a reasonable price

Nice product and easy to work with. Being the first time every messing with this type of stuff I was able to make up 6 grill frame inserts and cover them the first night I received these, granted it took about 4.5hrs total. That being said, they turned out well and the fabric seems to be good quality and hopefully breathable enough for my application...time will tell.

I am very pleased with this product

40 years ago I bought a set of JBL Control Monitor speakers. Over the years the speaker cloth material degraded slightly, and the glue started to release from the grille. I replaced the cloth with this new speaker grille cloth, and the speakers look brand new again. The instructional video from the company that sells this product was excellent also. I am very pleased with this product.

Great Finish to Restore Project.

More than enough fabric to cover two Cerwin-Vega RE-30 grills (17”x30”) with probably enough left to do another one. Looks exactly like the OEM, minus the cat scratches. Was going to order direct from vendor but Prime shipping got it to me faster There wasn’t enough glue left from the kit I used to replace the foam around the woofers. Shoe Goo worked just as well.
I highly recommend wiewing the Simply Speakers instructional videos.

Excellent for recessed speaker covering
Verified Purchase
Made a TV wall with 200 yr old wood and recessed the speakers. Cut 3/4 plywood to fit hole, slighter smaller to fit. Spray glued back of speaker frame, placed glue side up on top of fabric and lightly stretch around to hold. Dried quick and mounted. Very easy and exactly what we wanted. Plenty left over for other projects too.

Wonderful material!
Verified Purchase
I've used this material to rework a speaker system grille/cover. I am using glue to attach it to a plastic frame and it works great (using the glue recommended by the manufacturer). This is beautiful material with adequate stretch and resilience, easy to work with. It's tough and does not tear, it's even a little hard to cut so it will resist tears and abrasions during installation. I actually didn't expect this material to be this good when i placed the order, great value for the $.

Easy to work with, good results

With this cloth, and the recommended adhesive, it was easy to replace the existing cloth, which was pretty beat up. I was apprehensive about trying this as my speakers are fairly large and the grill has a rounded and beveled edge, but it came out great - the cloth has just enough stretch to be very forgiving. The seller has a video which shows you how to go about it - highly recommended!

Custom Questions & answers

Question:what is size of this product
Answer:Hello, the product is 60" wide and 36" length

Question:Size?
Answer:Fabric size is 60 inches wide x 36 inches long.

Question:Will this work to re-cover the front on a bass amp?
Answer:Not too sure what you mean by bass amp. If you mean a bass sub woofer, then absolutely. If you mean the bass amp air flow openings for cooling I would say no.

Question:Can the 60" be stretched to about 66"?
Answer:yes it can be stretched to 66" no problems there.

Question:What type of glue is used for speaker grill cloth installation
Answer:I used regular Elmers "school" glue, the white stuff. Since it was grill cloth to the wood frame speaker grill (both porous material, it worked great. I didn't have to use much glue, just a very thin layer. I applied a small bead of glue along the edge and then used my finger to smooth out the glue on the frame and then let it get tacky (partially dry) before putting on the grill cloth.

Question:can you use velcro hook & loop fasteners to adhere fabric to monitor fronts with no prior covers? wont increase heat buildup in speaker cabinet?
Answer:Heat is a problem that typically only effects the voice coil. It is _very_ unlikely that this cloth, or no cloth, or a heavy quilt will have any effect on the heat buildup in a voice coil.
Hook and loop fasteners might work for attaching the fabric, unless it is a quite small speaker the hook and loop won't hold the fabric tight enough to avoid sag wrinkles, or stretch wrinkles. The fabric works very well with a rigid frame. I built mine using 1.5 inch 40 mm wide wood strips. The entire frame could be attached to a speaker with hook and loop.

Question:Simply Speakers, do you have a frequency response measurement for the material?
Answer:No

Question:Is it see-through?
Answer:Hello, the fabric is not see like other speaker fabric. It is a breathable fabric but hides the contents behind the material.

Question:What adhesive is recommended to secure this cloth to a plastic frame?
Answer:Any spray on adhesive bought at Lowe's

Question:If you stretch it out in front of your eyes, can you see through it? (Asking for mask making purposes)
Answer:You cannot see through this when stretched, unless there is ample light behind it. This cloth is designed to not restrict any sound, while still hiding the speakers under it.
