A nice option for future proofing your home/business

I bought the LINKUP CAT 8.1 cabling and the LINKUP jacks. My electrician, who had never seen CAT 8 before, was able to follow the pictured instruction sheet and get everything working just fine.

Why am I installing CAT 8.1? No, I don't own a data center. Rather, I am wiring my home + home office and wanted to future proof things beyond 10 Gbps. At the moment, I don't even have a switch capable of 10 Gbps but I can definitely attest that this CAT 8.1 cabling is 100% backwards compatible with my existing CAT 5E, 6, and 6A wiring.

I will post back here again when I upgrade to 10 Gbps ... probably in next 12 months or so.

Update: Max speed I could get was 98 Mbps.

Update to my previous review. Correcting my error

I went out and purchased a cable tester (Klein Tools VDV Scout Pro 3). I found out the issue was that the cable was damaged during installation, not a problem with the cable quality.

Having the proper testing tool, allowed me to find out what was going wrong and figure out where to start looking. Once the damaged area (on my part) was located and eliminated. The speed test showed that the cable is now performing as intended, and is very fast and stable!

I should have purchased the proper scanning tool when I first ordered the cable. It would have saved me many hours of undue stress.
—————————————————————————————————————————-+——————————-

I ordered this cable and rj45 plugs at the same time. Making sure I selected the correct plugs. I ran the CAT 8 cable from the fiberoptic box straight to the router (approximately 50’). I could not get the ISP speed through the cable.

I first thought the sockets were installed wrong in some way. I reviewed the video and installed completely new rj45 plugs. I still only got 98 Mbps. I then thought I had a router problem. After much testing and almost going out and replacing the router. I decided to go out side and hook the router straight into the fiberoptic box with a 3’ CAT 5E cable. Boom, 250 Mbps both up and down.

So, the bottom line is that I wasted all that money and a couple of days crawling around in a 100 degree attic installing a faulty cable. What a disappointment!

Awesome performance

Awesome performance.
Notice a huge difference in speeds after removing all my old cable upgrading to cat 8. I did buy their rj45 jacks and keystones. I love it, but it can be really expensive quickly.

Solid Cat8 cable

Everything about the cable was top notch and well insulated. It is sturdy with the diameter about the same as RG6. I would buy it again if needed,

Question & Answer

Question :

Do you sell anything shorter than 50m cables? Im wanting to test out the termination plug and cable before I drop serious money wiring our house.

Answer :

Definitely. We can arrange this. Can you contact us at Support@linkup.one for detail?

Question :

Can i buy it in bulk im prewiring a new house and want to run all cat8 for future proofing the home

Answer :

Yes. These Certified Cat8 cables are very popular for new home builders. All of these are for future proof purpose.

Question :

Can I use RJ45 ends to terminate?

Answer :

Yes. This Cat8.1 cable is designed for RJ45 and GG45 plugs. However, this is a true Cat8 in 22AWG which is very heavy duty. Unlike the Cat8 sold by other sellers, we would recommend to use our "Field Termination Plugs" which are designed for the best performance and easy to crimp. Here is the link:

Question :

Is the linkup - cat8 ethernet cable rated for direct burial or does it need to be inside conduit for burial? also, is it uv rated for direct sunlight?

Answer :

This is not CMX rated for outdoor. It can't be used under UV (direct sunlight) , not direct burial without conduit.

Question :

It says 22 awg solid copper conductor. Is it actually 22 awg and is it actually solid?

Answer :

It's both 22AWG and solid wires.

Question :

What markings & text are on the exterior sheathing (exactly as they appear please)?

Answer :

We have two prints on our Cat8 cable: before and after May-2019.
Here is the print after May-2019 as they appeared on the cable,
"LINKUP CAT.8 Plus Performance S/FTP LSOH INSTALL CABLE 22AWG 4PR Rated ANSI/TIA 568.2-D CAT.8 & ISO/IEC TR 11801-9901 Class I"
If you need the print on the cables before May-2019, please contact us at Support@LINKUP.ONE. Thanks.

Question :

In your description you list this ethernet cabling as ghmt certified. why is your certificate expired?

Answer :

*** Updated *** the 2020 GHMT certificate is uploaded. ***
The certificate image isn't updated with the most recent one. It's hard to change image once it is on. We will try to upload the most recent certificate if possible.
The certificate may be expired, but the cables were made before the expiry date. These cables are still certified and for sure the only one GHMT certified Cat8 cable offered on Amazon.

Question :

I'm worried about this shielded cable introducing noise to my home audio equipment. Should I terminate to a keystone and use an uninsulated jumper?

Answer :

This 22AWG shielded certified Cat8 cables are designed for 40G network systems. Indeed, there are lots of customers are using our Cat8 for their home audio system. These cables, plugs, and keystones are designed for easy DIY and re-usable. You are encouraged to try different ways of terminations (into keystones or plugs) to get the best sound out of it. Amazon has 30 days money back warranty. You can always return it for full refund.

Question :

Where is the cable made?

Answer :

The cable that I use is made in the United States and is pair shielded along with triple shielding as well. It's thick and the conductors are 23 awg. The thickest you can find. What was also harder to find was the copper which was OFC audio grade. Currently though, I would love to find a manufacturer other than Audioquest for silver plated copper ethernet cables which would be the best you can get.

Question :

is the cable certified for inside the walls of the home?

Answer :

Yes. This Cat8 is CM rated.
The CM cables are generally the minimum jacket ratings suitable for in-wall installation of Ethernet cables, and are appropriate for installation inside a residence or a single-story commercial building. Please do not install it as riser (between floors), nor plenum purpose.
