Great patch panel, be careful when choosing a seller

The Monoprice Cat5 Enhanced Patch Panel was offered by a number of sellers when I purchased mine - and my first transaction (from seller cables-direct-online) was a failure. They advertised the Monoprice item, yet sent me another brand that lacked the features that were the reason I chose the Monoprice in the first place. Compounding that, they did not reply to my messages. Fortunately, Amazon refunded me so that I could re-purchase from someone more reliable (I chose Monoprice because I knew they'd not ship a competitor's product).

Since this was my first foray into home networking, I wanted a panel that was easy to use. If you're an expert you can probably get by with no "frills" but I needed a bit of a guide. This comes with the blocks clearly color-coded via labels (for both 568 A and B) so that you can easily punch in your wire in the correct order. It also states that it works with a 110 punch tool, which was information I found useful. Other panels I looked at either did not say, or reviewers indicated that they needed a different type of punch. Since I already own a 110, I wanted a panel that worked with the tool I have. It did come with a flimsy plastic punch but I opted not to use it. It may work fine if you have strong hands, but I needed more assist from my punch.

Included are zip ties to use with the plastic slots to help support the cables, and plastic caps to help keep the wiring in place. No instructions were included, but I didn't really need any. The only thing I found I wanted, but was lacking were screws to mount the panel (easily remedied with odd ones I have on hand, but still... incomplete without them). I'd knock off a half-star for those 2 omissions but can't bring myself to knock off a whole one for those minor things. It was easy to use and works fine, so I'm happy with my purchase and recommend this panel to others.

Buy this patch panel!

Lots of room in the rear to install the Cat5 or Cat6 cables. Large numbers and easily identifiable color codes to punch down the cables in the right location. Comes with a cheap plastic punch down tool that will do the job if you dont have a punch down tool. It also came with the mounting hardware and caps for the connections. Well built and would buy again if I need more patch ports.

Great product great price

I think this is a great product. It’s cheaper to buy this 96 port panel than it is to buy 3x24, a 24 and 48, or whatever combination of panels from whatever supplier or manufacturer. But, it’s FAR from a “cheaply made” item.

My ONLY little nit pick is that the delliniation between the punches for ports 1&2 and 3&4 and so on do not have any sort of markers or lines. I had to count punches / color changes so I could know where to find 3 if I hadn’t first punched 1&2. Other panels have the numbers and some vertical lines on the back to help find and keep your spot.

Its cheep so there are no advanced features such as a swinging faceplate or easily removable sections but it works and is CAT6

96 Ports! Each section of 6 comes out with 2 screws so you can pull the cables through and work on them on the front side. Its cheep so there are no advanced features such as a swinging faceplate or easily removable sections but it works and is CAT6. It holds CAT 5 and CAT 5e cables well making punch down a breeze. It does flex a little in the middle so its good to have a hand on the front when working on those ports.

Good quality Keystone patch panel. Comes with tool that helps pushing cables before punch down. Also comes with back covers.

Works as expected

Works well, I like the way the posts are organized. It helps manage cables when the individual wires are closer together. The included caps also make for a nice complete look and feel.

Great price for a great product

Not business class but not business class price. Really like the price and works great. Speeds are same through the panel as plugged direct. Would buy again.

Question & Answer

Question :

Ho much work is it to add cables at a later date? Say I only want to use 65 ports before mounting it in a rack. Is it a lot of work to add more cables

Answer :

The front panel is on a hinge. So it's easy to open afterwards. However, you'll have to plan your wiring accordingly.

Question :

What are the actual dimensions of this once the cables are punched down? will it fit in a wall mount bracket, 5.25x19x4 (inch) , 3u?

Answer :

If your wall mount bracket is four inches deep this will work. This patch panel, like many others, has slots to run zip ties in. Keeping the cables tight against the back of the patch panel. Like this: http://www.atoptelecom.com/images/Belflower_cabling_pics/06_Rack_open3_bottom.jpg

Question :

Does this patch panel support POE switch and POE devices.

Answer :

Yes. There's no special requirements to support POE from a patch panel. The CAT6 spec is the only relevant spec.

Question :

Could anyone please let me know if there is a port to plug in my router and power up all the ethernet ports?

Answer :

It's a patch panel, not a switch. You need a switch to plug your router. A switch with Power over ethernet (POE).

Question :

What kind of punch tool do you need for this, given that the one included is sub-par?

Answer :

any punch tool would work.

Question :

Does monoprice make a surface wall mount bracket for the 24 port patch panel?

Answer :

Yes they do.

Question :

Is there a port to plug in my cable modem/router?

Answer :

It would depend on the setup. It's a patch panel which is generally used to help organize your cat6 cable runs. Each port would allow you to punch down cat6 cable (without rj45 connectors) to the back. Unless you are referring to a coax connection for a modem, in that case it would not have a spot for that.
