The only brand I'll buy

Having had extensive practical education in Surg protection (Read:lost nearly $6000 of equipment to lightening), I have come to the following realization: Lightening and Surg protection is layered. You need more than one way to minimize voltage transients. For me, that means "whole house" protectors on every panel and surge protectors at every piece of equipment. It is also important to protect antenna, phone, and LAN leads, if they have exposure to transients. These only really need protection at the house entry, though. The electrical service needs protection both at the panel and the plug. And for the last step, the ONLY brand I'll use is Panamax. I've bought other well-known brands and had them fail me. In the last event, I had two TVs on the same electoral circuit ( same breaker) and one was protected by Panamax, the other by another brand. After an electrical storm, the TV protected by the other brand was zapped. The Panamax protected TV worked perfectly.
Since putting Panamax Surg protectors on every important piece of equipment, there have been no more losses. We live in the foothills on a hilltop, so there has been ample opportunity for lightening damage.
I'm told you cam mimic the "protect-or-disconnect" feature by putting in a GFCI and using a standard surge protector. I have no way to do a comparison test, but it makes some sense. For me, though, I'll just buy Panamax. I know this sounds like a paid testimonial, but it's not: I'm truly sold on this brand. Oh yes! The reason I'm at the review page is to buy another one!

Panamax is the Rolls Royce of surge protectors for a reason

We have a number of these devices protecting our electronics from voltage spikes that come with lightning strikes and power blips. Over many years we've never lost a piece of equipment protected by Panamax even when we had a lightning strike hit our well cap 75 feet from our house (when virtually everything unprotected got whacked). Highly recommended - you get what you pay for with Panamax.

Bet on this brand - they bet on themselves.

Ive had personal experience with Panamax preventing repeated lightning damage to my Dad's TV/Satellite over the years, failing even the utility company's efforts to prevent it with in line suppressors (he's at the end of a long rural electric run, so gets lots of surges with storms). Panamax has been the only brand to succeed - in the old days of Panamax there were thermal fuses in the surge protector that would sacrifice themselves, but the modern versions are very well built as well. Not many suppressors can truly do their job as advertised, but I would bet on this brand. They were good to replace the suppressors when sacrificed, but have warranty that would have replaced the appliances if damage had occurred.

This PM8-EX is sturdy, heavy, well built and well spread outlets, perfect for behind an entertainment center, computer desk, etc. Nice long cord.

Product Quality

It's pretty convenient. However, I don't think it is still efficient with my 3.1 cu ft. 115 v mini refrigerator. I plugged it in trying to prevent from my dvd player from glitching. Yet, it is still glitching again every time the refrigerator glitches. I can not find any solution. I am assuming it is NOT the surge protector problem, so hopefully if I can find another solution to fix this problem.

Great Product...design is a little funky

I've been using Panamax products for more than 20 years on expensive PC and Audio/Video equipment. I bought this one for a gaming PC. It works well and I have never had a single problem with any of their products. This one is a little funky in design. You can see that from the pictures. They show what you're getting. Still, no problems plugging in what I needed to plug in and it sits just fine on my floor, in the back, under the desk.

Multi-outlet strip and surge protector

This is an excellent product for the money and should provide all the extra outlets you need. However, be careful not to plug in too many devices that consume a lot of power: just because you will now have room to plug in a lot of electrical devices does not mean that the power line they are plugged into will handle the additional load. Today, we are using many devices (particularly at our desks) that do not draw a lot of power, like telephones, small stereos; cell phone and bluetooth rechargers, etc. This strip is perfect for these purposes. But if you plug in a large screen TV or air conditioner or heater, (or anything else which consumes a lot of power) in addition to these other things, you are likely to trip your circuit breaker, or worse, create a fire hazard.

Also, do not depend too heavily on the surge protection contained in this or any power strip. If you want to protect your computer or other valuable and sensitive device, get yourself a "UPS" (uninterrupted power sourse). Depending upon the size you need (which in turn depends upon what you are protecting and how long you need the power supply to run in the event of a power failure) you will generally spend $100 or more for this device. Yes, that's a good deal more than a power strip which claims to provide the same protection, but you will thank yourself the first time there is a serious electrical problem on your line. A UPS is also superior to a strip surge protector in that it will allow you to use your computer or other device when the power is out; the more sophisticated ones actually come with software which will shut down your computer in the event of a power failure even when you are not present.

Panamax is a great company for home theater protection equipment

Panamax is a great company for home theater protection equipment. As a former Tweeter employee (that goes back) and working in other places selling Monster Cable and Power, these guys do a great job giving you the protection for modern setups but with smart engineering to allow angled plugs to be incorporated into your setup. it includes a mount if you choose to attach it to a piece of furniture. Very slim design, hides very easily.

Panamax is the absolute best in surge protection and noise control

Panamax is the absolute best in surge protection and noise control. All our electronics are plugged into Panamax units. I actually had one "dance" on the floor during a terrific charge. It protected our TV and everything else we had plugged in it.
