Excellent product for multiple retro systems

I was previously using a 4 port s-video connector by RCA but I was getting crazy amounts of checkerboarding on the TV screen (36 inch Sony Trinitron XBR) and it was super annoying to see that on really good systems. I think the problem was internal grounding on that connector because with svideo and AV combo jacks it sends partial signal to the svideo cable and partial signal to the AV cable.

After waffling for a few months I finally bought this unit box after someone had recommended it online. I am glad that I did this, not only for the fact I can now hookup 8 units but that the checkerboarding is gone. In all honesty depending on the console/system there is minimal differences in visual quality seen between AV and svideo as far as I can tell, and to not have to deal with the checkerboarding this thing is well worth it!

I have attached a picture to the review, nestled in the middle of some of the consoles I have hooked up to it. Currently the 8 consoles that are hooked to it are: Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis/CD/32X, Panasonic 3DO, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar/Jaguar CD, and Philips CD-I. For the majority of them the signal output with AV as this unit does vs svideo which I had cables for some of them, it basically the same, meaning it looks just as good but now I have no checkerboarding. Svideo is often sharper with better blacks around the edges and AV is more blurry/fuzzy and bleeds colors more, but I can live with that and am really happy with this current product. Definitely recommend this to anyone who needs to hookup multiple consoles to a TV that only has 4 inputs!

Purchased strictly to use the RCA ports

First thing first: The quality of the unit itself. Construction is low-cost, but reasonable. Sheet metal seems like 22ga mild steel. Electrical design could be better, but I don't think it'll seriously affect composite video quality.

I'm designing a board to make an 8-channel remote control AV switch. Since RCA connectors are darn expensive ($1+ each, an 8-channel Left+Right audio and composite video requires 27 connectors) I thought I'd purchase this switch for its connectors.

I expected having to bandsaw the PCB in half to get the connectors, but internally there are separate PCBs for the switches and the RCA ports which connect together with 2 14-conductor ribbon cables.

RCA Board Pinouts:

Switch is nice for game system collection's

I absolutely love this product, I ordered this switch back in September and scince Then I haven't had a problem, As my video game system collection continues to grow I've been wanting to have all the systems hooked up and ready to play, I found that someone else had this switch so I decided to order it, after looking at photos mine never had the logo but I'm ok with that, I will buy this product again seeing as 8 ports are not enough for what I'm trying to do, systems that I will be putting on this or the other switch is Wii, GameCube, N64,snes,nes,ps1,ps2,Xbox, Sega dreamcast, Saturn, Genesis and a phew others

I have been searching for something like this for some time

Ordered this to be able to hook up my Nintendo NES, Sega Mastersystem, Sega Megadrive, PS1 & PS2, and it does the job perfectly!! Exactly what I needed, I have been searching for something like this for some time, it's a great designed box and the switches are great making it easy to switch between consoles! Was a little bit worried ordering from the UK and this being sent from US, but it arrived exactly as described and perfectly wrapped so couldn't get damaged!

If your looking for something to hook up multiple retro consoles to a modern HDTV, then this is what you need!!!

Very pleased with my purchase!

I have attached a picture of all my consoles hooked up!!! :)

It works!

Well, it works. If you are looking for something like this and trying make sense of all the reviews, I will just say that to begin with. It came on time and worked as advertised. The box itself is pretty sturdy. The plugs in the back were a bit loose though I will say. Still worked but it could be a bit better there in terms of quality. I use this to plug in a number of older gaming systems to one rca. I am currently using all of the Jack's available on this box. So for my purpose, I am happy with my purchase overall. Had it for a couple months now and everything still functioning as well with a good amount of use.

This is the Ultimate device for multiple players and recorders!!

This is the Ultimate device for multiple players and recorders. I have an assortment of DVD/MP3 Players and recorders. When I have completed the wire-up for these devices, I should be able to switch between them successfully, which beats what I formerly had which was 3 sets of (1 of 3) A/V switches with all 3 plugged into a 3 way switch and trust me, it was confusing. I will plug this 8 input output into one of my old 3 way switches and then, if needed; I will purchase and wire in another 8 input output switch. The item works pretty well and minimizes what I have to do to change decks.

Perfect for my gaming setup

I'm a collector and I have tons of consoles. I got this to upgrade the setup on one of my TV stands. I have seven consoles on there and I was previously using a 4 to 1 switcher. Obviously it wasn't enough connections, but this was exactly what I needed. I got everything hooked up and then added labels to the top to indicate what was what. Tested everything out and it works great. Now I can switch between any of my consoles without having to mess with wires.

A fine AV switch for the price!

For the price, this is a good buy for anyone needing a reliable AV switch. Construction is far better than I'd hoped; the chassis is solid, all metal construction that seems like it will hold up rather well. The switches are smooth, but I'd be interested to see how they'd hold up to a year or two of heavy use. Overall, my first impression was that it was smaller than I'd expected. You could probably fit eight of these units inside of an old Nintendo Entertainment System console it's that small. Yet it is still well laid out and easily set up and operated.
It's a passive unit, so no power required to operate. I was able to simply plug in and test the unit with no faults out of the box. All of the jacks were firm and mounted well. Not the slightest hint of cheap construction. [EDIT: Another review mentioned the backplate of the unit -4 way version- so I inspected mine a little closer. Yes, the back is a bit wishy-washy and does seem as though it could be pushed into the case itself with a small amount of force. This is more force than should be needed to plug in cables, but it is still something to be wary of. However, in most cases, you would not be constantly plugging in and unplugging units from the back of this device, so it should not present a problem for most users].
Overall, I woud recommend this unit to anyone.

Perfect for my gaming setup!!

This allowed me to have the ultimate gaming setup! I have about 8-9 different gaming systems and this let me connect everything together so I don’t have to unplug and plug back in different consoles to play them. I have my Xbox one on an HDMI and my Xbox 360 on another. I have everything else plugged into the AV switch. The switch is plugged into an AV to HDMI adaptor and I have a N64, Sega Genesis, NEE Classic, GameCube, and an original Xbox all plugged into the switch and it works perfectly for all systems and was easy to setup!! I still need to hook up my Dreamcast and Original NES and I plan on getting a Wii at some point to add to my collection. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE WHO HAS MULTIPLE GAMING SYSTEMS THAT REQUIRE AV!!

Very good multi console switch

We ordered this for our video game console collection to help organize and simplify their use. It shipped fast and arrived in perfect new condition. We were able to connect all our legacy consoles to it for easy switching between systems. We also got an hdmi switch for some newer systems all tied to one tv with its limited rear plug ins. The unit is well made and functions flawlessly. We plugged our consoles in right to left and up and down as they sit on a bookcase to remember the switch order. I highly recommend it!

Question & Answer

Question :

I have a 1995 sharp Catholic ray tube tv with rf port, will it work?

Answer :

There is no rf port on this switcher. Unless the tv have av input (red, white, yellow), there is no way to connect them.

Question :

Do you make a version with S-Video?

Answer :

That question would have to be answered by the producer of this product, not a fellow user. This version has RCA Video and Audio L/R jacks only. Hopefully, this helps to answer your question.

Question :

There is a ton of interference when i use this that isn't present when i connect console direct to the tv. what am i doing wrong?

Answer :

First off, is it near any power supplies like power cords, those bricks consoles have, or something like that? i dont know to what extent, but that can cause interference. I would also check your connections, ensure that you are only pressing in a single button when switching inputs. I will try to think of anything else.

Question :

Can this work with an AV-HDMI converter? AV output into converter into an HDMI switch? I had a Gamecube, Retron 3, PS2 and Atari Flashback connected.

Answer :

Yes. That's exactly what I do.

Question :

I'm wondering how this will hook up to my tv?

Answer :

If you have an older TV with "composite video" connections - RCA connectors red/white for left/right audio and yellow for video - all you need is a 3-condunctor RCA cable - but if your TV has HDMI input, this device will work to switch analog RCA left/right audio only, but not video. If your TV has an HDMI connection, that will carry both video and audio to/from other devices, and this device would be of no value. I use this device with analog-digital audio converter to switch various CD, DVD, BlueRay audio outputs to converter into digital audio to amplifier that has no analog inputs.

Question :

i have three CD players at church in our sound booth and one mixer board. i would like know if this is the way to be abl to run all three if needed?

Answer :

Hi Richard, Sorry I can't give a yes or no ansser. Since I don't know anything about mixer boards. So, I am not sure if you are attempting to run all your CD players simultaneousl or what. But, I have the Panlong 4-way. It works great for my purpose. I plugged four things into the back. The front has switchy buttons. I have to push one of the four buttons, a button for each component,
to view each component on the TV screen. In my case, I have a switch for the Roku, the CD player, the VCR player, and the TV which has an antenna for local channels. So, yes, you can plug in your three CD players (or probably up to eight different components with the
8-way that you are looking at). However, I am not sure if it will do what you are trying to accomplish with a mixer board. Wish I could be more helpful. Wendy

Question :

Can you daisy chain two of these?

Answer :

You absolutely can, though I figure quality should go down, and it must be a headache to know which of the (potentially) 7 even inputs is which...but you sure can if you need to. I haven't tried it though, but I can't think of any problem you could have if you did
Hope that works

Question :

Does this work with any device with an A/V connection?

Answer :

I've hooked up several video game systems to it and a DVD player and they all work fine ad the picture and sound are good. So I assume anything that has that type of connection will work with that box

Question :

Are the shields of the inputs switched along with the signal to the outputs or do all the inputs share a common ground plane?

Answer :

Only the positive (signal) part will get switched --- the ground (shield) stays common for all the input/output ports and will not be switched

Question :

Would this allow you to use the 'Progressive mode' on consoles instead of individual cables, by using one component output for all composite inputs?

Answer :

Sorry, no. This is just for switching between regular composite inputs. It doesn't handle component. Plus, going from composite to component doesn't mean progressive.
On a side note, I've been in the situation you seem to be. I'd be happy to help/give advice if you need it, hit me up at Michael@Wilsoncreativesolutions.net
