A great way to extend the life of two vintage Macs
Color: 9 pin to 9 pin | Verified Purchase
As a collector of Macs deemed “vintage” or “obsolete” by Apple, I can say that this very inexpensive cable has improved the maintenance process with both my PowerBook G4 and 27” iMac, both of which are the main reason I bought the cable. The second reason - a used LaCie D2 Quadra enclosure with a variety of ports including FireWire 800 - came to me just days after I had already ordered the cable.

After removing the cable from the package and plugging it into the aforementioned computers and hard drive, the drive responded almost immediately.

Copying 14 GB of data took anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, where it would have taken 15-20 minutes with FireWire 400, and over an hour with USB.

With help from Target Disk Mode - which can be activated by holding “T” as you power up your Mac - I can quickly and easily back up the PowerBook or transfer data without having to open the cover on the PowerBook and risk damaging anything.

All in all, this is a very good inexpensive cable. I would definitely recommend it for those who need a FireWire 800 cable, but don’t already have one or need a replacement.

Works great with a 1st gen iPod Classic!!
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
I used this cable to connect a 1st gen iPod Classic to a 2015 Macbook Air with Thunderbolt 2. First I tried a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter attached to the Apple Firewire 800 to thunderbolt 2 adapter, but It would only charge and not sync my iPod. I used this cable attached to the Apple Firewire 800 to thunderbolt 2 adapter and it worked perfectly. It's a thick cable and seems pretty durable.

Perfect for connecting older hardware to a Late 2012 Mac Mini
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
Purchased this to connect a first gen Presonus SudioLive 16.4.2 to my Late 2012 Mac Mini. This cable has allowed individual tracking of all 16 channels plus bus mixes etc. Was a perfect step to finishing my home studio. Construction is sturdy, and appears to be very well built to last for an installation that will not be moved often.

Great adapter wire! Has been doing what I need it to do!

Great adapter wire! Has been doing what I need it to do!

Good value for the money, made of decent quantity materials, connections are solid.

I get very good quality connections (video & audio) with this wire.

Only reason I gave 4/5 Stars is because I’m an Audio/Video professional and there are much better cables available but they are more expensive!
Based on that consider my 4/5 star rating a 5/5 for price & quality. You get what you pay for!!

But still…

I recommend this to those looking for this type of adapter cable on a budget. 😁

An instant lifesaver
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
When I found my upgraded Mac and venerable recording studio Interface used two different Fire wire connectors I tried to install a extra PCI board, But even mack did not have drivers for that old design. This was a quick fix and inexpensive and provides a very strong quality cable. Highly recommend it!

Adequate "iLink" cable
Color: 9 pin to 4 pin | Verified Purchase
I used this for my mini-dv recorder that needed an iLink cable to transfer video to my Mac. This cable was perfect for the job although there are some issues with the recording of the media to my computer. I don't know if it's the tapes, player or cable. I will do some further investigation but for now, the cable is suiting my purposes.

It works as advertised.
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
Didn't think this cable existed anymore. I'm glad they still make it. It works just as advertised with no problems for me. Connecting an early 2011 MacBook Pro to an old Presonus FireWire audio interface.

Works great, carries power fine!
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
Works great for connecting a FW800 hard drive to my 2001 Powerbook G4 with FW400. Powers the hard drive up through the single cable just fine.

Solid replacement cable
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
Replaced a similar cable which was becoming unreliable. This cable seems solid after several months of regular use. It connects my old MOTU 896HD (FireWire 400) audio interface to my FireWire 800 port. Daisy chaining seems to work fine too, with external hard drives. Some FireWire 800 cables don’t seem to “click” solidly into the port. My old one didn’t; this cable does.

Thunderbolt to firewire conversion...
Color: 9 pin to 6 pin | Verified Purchase
Bought a new laptop to replace my dinosaur xps710 which I used for music production. Combined with thunderbolt adapters the conversion worked flawlessly.

Question:Can i use this cable if my 2008 imac screen no longer works, can i hook up this cable & boot up imac and laptop to transfer files ?
Answer:If there are the right kind of Firewire ports on both Macs, then the software will support booting in target-disk mode.
Look at the shape of the connector ports on both machines: this cable has square connectors. If one or both of your Macs has the connector port with one-side-square, one-side-beveled, you need a different cable.
