Great Surge Protector and Warranty Honored

Product lasted 3 years. We have been through a few, not well-managed, TV parks and this Surge Protector proved itself several times. Warn us of mis-wired pedestals as well as no power and a ground fault.
Finally failed- indicator lights dead, but the unit still passed power to my 5th wheel.
Filed the warranty for the replacement and, within 2 hours, was honored by Progressive.
Good unit and great customer support.
Replacement is being shipped without charge and the bad unit trashed.

Highly recommended, well built, a must for RVers.

Well built, highly recommended, does its job well. A must for RV'ers.

Tech support I've heard is great, and they share a lot of info on YouTube and their site. The design is well made, and modular so you can replace components if you ever have a failure. It can be a little hard getting everything to fit in the little box, but thats just part of wiring, not an issue with the design or product.

I would HIGHLY recommend you know with 100% where you are putting this and make sure you don't need the remote display model. I wish I would have got that, but thankfully, I can still barely see the display on mine. I do wish they sold a kit to add it, but I don't believe they do.

I really like getting the readout of current status so to speak - voltage and amp draw on both legs. Makes it easy to figure out how much power you are using should you be trying to figure out how big of a Generator you need.

Progressive Industries SSP-50XL Surge Protector w/cover 50 amp

What I like about this product is the service. If not for the service I probably would not be writing the review.
I had a failure with my surge protector. It developed an open ground. How it happened I still don't know. I also had to replace my AC/DC inverter the same time. That cost me some money. Did the surge protector save me damage to other services or cause damage to the inverter? Don't know, won't know!
I contacted Progressive on the web page and followed the instructions for repair. Got reply within 24 hours and they would replace my surge protector. Didn't have to return old surge protector just destroy it. On my honor I did. I Received the replacement within 3 days.
I gave the product four stars on value because there is still an unknown for me. The Tech support and installation rated five stars all the way. Especially Tech Support. Thanks

A must have

After seeing many friends have issues the power quality AAR many campgrounds and after buying a new camper we decided it was time to add a surge protector for a piece of mind. At the camper store this same model was over 300 bucks.

I was specifically looking for a protector that had the following capability:
Open Hot Indication, Open Ground Indication, Open Neutral Indication, Reverse Polarity Indication

I know there are some other blue tooth models but I don’t feel I need those at this time. This will help give you immediate information on your power quality before you find out the hard way. And if something does go wrong this is a sacrificial item which means it will die so your camper won’t. A small price to pay for protecting $1000s in electrical equipment.

Campgrounds are notorious for power pikes, bad grounds, and reverse polarity

Cheaper, safe option

Scare to burn down your camp trailer? So was I.
Want to spend hundreds of dollars to feel safe? Sure, but you don’t have to.

This is a cheaper and equally safe option for campground living. Plug it into the power post first, read the indicator lights, move in with your life. This protects against the dreaded surges and grounding issues that other campers scare you about.

Great alternative to the NASA type products out there that do the same thing for 3 times the cost. You’re welcome.

Saved us from frying our 5th wheel

Progressive Industries makes a great line of protectors and this one helped troubleshoot a problem at a campground before we fried our 5th wheel. When we went to hook up after getting level on the pad, we plugged this in first and it was easy to see there was an "Open Ground" which meant we could have gotten some harsh spikes or even hot skinned our rig.
We had the park manager look at it, at first he wanted to argue there was nothing wrong but the lights on it and super easy to read indicators showed the pad next to us didn't have the same problem at the pole.
He came back a couple of hours later and installed a new box - the old one had been chewed on by rodents exposing wires inside. He was rather impressed how easy it was to troubleshoot on the spot in minutes and wrote down the information so he could order one to test all the poles in the park.

Nice device.

This thing works well, and it protects my Airstream like it should. I bought one about 4 years ago and used it in many places. The old one finally died after giving its life sacrificially to protect my camper.

I bought a new one not realizing that it had a lifetime warranty, and not knowing how good customer service and warranty claim service would be. They are great! The lifetime warranty claim form is an easy online fill-in-the-blanks form. It requires you to send a screen shot of the order invoice, plus a picture of the male and female plugs. They want to make sure that the two plugs were never grossly overheated. After their review of my claim, a new one is on the way to me.

Now I will have two. Thank you, Progressive Industries!

A good product that does what it is intended to do.

I did not use Tech support and value for the money I believe is worth the price. I have only used it once in an old campground and it did what it was supposed to do. the lights and instructions are pretty clear for checking correct voltage and that it is ready to use. The unit is heavy and seems to be well built if taken care of. The whole assembly is large and if you are sharing a stacked pedestal like I was the person under or above you will have issues plugging in. To be correct I believe this was more a park problem for bad design rather than the surge protector since connecting just the RV plug would have been difficult without the surge protector. this would be something that a small extension may take care of.

Trust those lights

We’ve been using it for over a month now at different campsites. It did catch bad wiring at a new pedestal at our home campsite. No kidding... the electrician forgot to install a neutral wire from the meter side to the breaker. Had we not had this device, 240 volts would have traveled up only one leg and fried quite a bit of stuff. Unfortunately it happened to the folks across the street. They too had this device but bypassed it “just to see if it was right”... zapped their converter and fridge electrical board. The lights on this device tell you exactly what is going on... trust those lights.

Question & Answer

Question :

can i use this with my electric range?

Answer :

This is a 50 amp, but if it plugs in to your range ok. This will not harm it , in the other hand will protect from bad power or outage blinks. Off/On

Question :

Does it shut everything down and then start it back up.

Answer :

The surge protection will automatically shut down power to the RV whenever source power falls below 104 Volts, or rises above 132 volts. Once the AC source rises above 104-volts, or below the 132-volt level the time delay indicator flashes for the preset time and then automatically restores power to RV.
If a power surge were to damage the surge protector circuit the digital display error code will read E-10. This is your indication that it needs to be replaced.

Question :

Locking tab come with itt?

Answer :

You would need to order the XL model for the cover and locking tab

SSP-50XL

Question :

Does this product come with ems ?

Answer :

No, it does not. You will need Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X Portable RV Surge Protector (50 A) if you want EMS.

Question :

Does this unit kill power to the camper after a surge and or low voltage condition, and once power is stopped, does it automatically reset itself?

Answer :

I just purchased mine so I have not used it yet. However, their booklet which comes with the unit says "The EMS shuts down power for low voltage on Line-1 and then power is restored. The error code reads E-0 with a PE4 indicating low voltage is why the unit shut down previously. The PE code will clear when power is disconnected from the EMS".
The booklet gives 10 error codes. It appears that Line 1 codes refer to 30-amp RVs, with the Line 2 codes referring to 50-amp RVs. I hope this helps.

Question :

What is the difference between 50xl and 50x ?

Answer :

Other than 6age wiring and a weather cover, I found no other differences. I was not able to find the size wiring for the 50x. Progressive advertised the xl model with upgraded 6age wire!

Question :

How can I be sure which surge protector to buy. I have 50 amp in motor home service+a onion generator?

Answer :

IF you have 50 amp service you need a 50 amp surge.

Question :
