About this item
  • RECORD WEIGHT WITH STYLE - Riverstone Audio's ROCK n' ROLL GUITAR-SERIES RECORD WEIGHTS - Music is not boring, why should a record weight be? These weights have it all, superb craftsmanship, good looks and, above all, the ability to enhance sound quality. The top surface of the Guitar Series weights have a finely detailed laser engraving of a classic 6-string electric guitar-- instantly dress up your turntable with artistic style and personality.
  • BETTER SOUND - Improves contact between a record and platter to reduce the transfer of unwanted vibrations to a stylus. The reduction of extraneous vibrations reduces distortion - provides better detail, tighter bass and overall improvement of sound quality. Also helpful to temporarily improve flatness of LP's; a warped or bowed record changes the contact angle between the stylus tip and record groove - leading to audio distortion and additional lateral loading of a stylus.
  • LESS STRESS ON MOTORS - The medium mass (380 g) of the R&R 380 makes it well suited for use on most turntables, including vintage turntables. The medium mass requires a lower starting torque and the low profile/precision machining reduce wobble which lowers axial and radial loading of motor/spindle bearings during record playback.
  • LOOKS GREAT ON ANY TURNTABLE – The R&R 380 record weights not only improve sound quality, it is a work of art, and ergonomically designed for easy gripping. The exquisite surface finish was obtained by a process that involves multistep glass beading, hand polishing and anodizing for surface protection and color. Looks great on and off a turntable. CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum (one of the best aerospace grade aluminum alloys)..
  • LOW PROFILE - Fits under most dust covers; however, best to measure before ordering (requires approx. 36 mm from record surface to underside of dust cover). foam-lined wooden box is included to protect the record weight when not in use. Spec's: Mass 380g, 34.5 mm height, max. diameter (at base) 80 mm, spindle hole 7.25 mm dia. x 20 mm deep. Laser engraving: 6-string electric guitar. “Deep Ocean” (a dark blue-black color) with a satin finish.

A Sharp Record Stabilizer That Does The Job
Verified Purchase
This article will be tackling a review of this product and also the ongoing misinformation of record stabilizers as there is some mis-info within other reviews.

The Riverstone Record Stabilizers are sharp-looking, well-made with just enough weight to add additional stability to your records. At 0.83 lbs (or 380 grams) it should not be too heavy for any turntable whether they are vintage or new. The color finish on the stabilizer has a high quality and consistent satin-ish look to it with a pad underneath to protect your record label. It feels very solid. It comes in a nice decorative box with a form-fitting foam insert. At under $38.00 it’s very nicely priced.

There is a lot of mis-information regarding record stabilizers. First of all they do not negatively impact the speed of a turntable as many of them (belt & direct drive) electronically monitor the speed accuracy. The ones that are not, generally speaking, maintain a consistent-enough speed in most cases. Smartphone apps that measure turntable speeds are not very accurate. Get a proper measurement tool if you’re THAT concerned or unable to trust your own ears during playback.

Record stabilizers will not wear down the turntable motor. This does not mean you can slap a 391 lbs record weight on your turntable either. Motors have limits. So how much weight is enough or too much?

Many turntable manufacturers offer their own stabilizers. Look up the weight of these particular items and that’ll tell you the maximum weight you may consider for your turntable.

It’s that easy.

Audio Technica, U-Turn, and Fluance all offer their own record stabilizers.

I’ll provide info for all three.

1. Audio Technica’s record stabilizer is 1.323 lbs
(or 600 grams) which means you may consider any stabilizer from roughly 1.3 lbs/600 grams or less for any current Audio Technica turntable. Check their website for any particular exceptions because they make a lot of models.

2. U-Turn offers their own record stabilizer, at their website, which is listed at 1 lbs (or 453.592 grams) therefore any stabilizer at 1 pound or less may be considered.

3. Fluance offers their own stabilizer which weighs in at 1.62 lbs (or 737.088 grams). That means you may consider any stabilizer at 1.6 lbs or less for any of the current Fluance “RT” turntables.

All three cost about $50.00 each currently.

(I own both a U-Turn Orbit & a Fluance RT-85 turntable.)

At 380 grams (or 0.83 lbs) Riverstone offers a stabilizer that can easily be used on all three of the above brands and more. I’m not one to want to push a turntable motor to its absolute limit, so I like to keep the weight a bit lower. The performance on both my U-Turn Orbit & Fluance RT-85 has been excellent for what it’s designed to do, which is add stabilization to the record on your platter.

In conclusion, should you be considering to buy or already own a new or vintage Pro-Ject, Rega, NAD, Marantz, Fluance, U-Turn, Audio Technica, Crosley, Victrola, House of Marley, Pioneer, Angels Horn, Technics, DUAL, Denon, Sony or Music Hall turntable, then you’re in great shape with Riverstone. It should easily work with all of those brands but always double-check at the manufacturer’s website or owner’s manual.

CAUTION : I’m not certain you can use Riverstone Record Stabilizers on portable record players (example : suitcase record players) or VERY cheap turntables. Check the manufacturer website FIRST.

Thanks for reading!

Hopefully not too heavy for vintage turntable.

Not sure if this will be too heavy over time for my vintage turntable or not. A few cuts, it seems to improve sound, but concerned it may tax the motor or bearings. Nice packaging, aesthetically cool object itself, heavy. Keep it on your nightstand, your passenger's seat, or in your purse or gym bag, or a favorite prison tubesock in case you need to employ blunt force trauma to someone's head. This thing ain't playing around.

This is so Cool !!

Nice and Heavy !! I really love this, the box is wooden with a nice metal latch hook, the box makes a great display itself. I really didn't notice an improvement in sound. In reading the manual for my Technics SL-Q300 direct drive turntable, there is a caution to not use one of these weights. That's fine with me, the item sitting displayed on top of the box makes a great display on the music shelf placed next to my turntable. I play guitar so I like the graphic, I got this in blue, the graphics are Awesome !! I would get it just because it's Cool !! So even if you don't notice an improvement in sound you have a really nice accessory to display !!

If your shopping for one, just buy this one!

I like everything about this weight. Look fit and finish. And the price! I researched for awhile about weight and this one came into that perfectly. Fits under my Technics SL-1300 with the lid down and a deer hide mat on top of the oem rubber one. Couldn't be happier! Oh! And the box is a bonus!
