Review

Well made, works as expected. Made in Taiwan, which is next best to Made in USA

Solidly constructed, perfectly functional, good price. That is enough for a 4 star rating. The extra star is for the country of origin. Of course I'd much rather buy a domestically-made part all else being equal. But failing that, I support Taiwan, one of the few functioning democracies in the East-- cultured, educated, industrious and (for now) an ally of the USA.

I will be ordering more. Did it have a gasket?

well built. it appears that it comes with stainless mounting hardware. I opened up the base and looked inside. Looked like decent soldering...much better than I could have done myself. I've had it mounted for a couple of weeks. I am not sure that it had a gasket/o-ring. I am pretty careless opening up packages and may have lost the o-ring though and will write that off as my attention to detail... or lack there of.

Perfect for roof rack
Verified Purchase
I have this mount on top of a roof basket on a '97 Toyota Land Cruiser, and it has worked perfectly. The tubes of the rack are about 1" and it grabs perfectly, no issues.

Works on RV ladder.

Mounted nicely on the RV ladder.

and they work great for that

designed for mounting an antenna on a vehicle mirror, but I've used these a couple times on ATVs to mount to the cargo rack, and they work great for that. Good product for either use.

Looks to be a solid product.

What was needed, may have to extend the bolts to make it fit!

Custom Questions & answers

Question:Does this convert pl259 antenna mount to nmo mount?
Answer:The nmo is how the anntenna attaches to the outside end. The pl 259 is the end that attaches to the radio connection. The picture appears to be pre-wired to annenna nmo and does not have a pl 259 connection to the bottom of the mount. You can purchase another style that has no cable and only has nmo on top and pl256 bottom of anntenna bracket

Question:If mounting to a painted surface, will this mount require a wire to ground to the vehicle body?
Answer:As a rule of thumb to mounting this bracket , it should be grounded for better performance. Sometimes the screws that you mount it with is a good ground. For a better performance for the antenna, Yes, I would put a ground wire on it.Try it without the ground wire first,Just make sure your swr is ok before talking on the radio.

Question:Does this need to be mounted to bare metal to get proper ground?
Answer:Yes it need to be mounted to bare metal for a proper ground. If not possible to mount it to bare metal you will have to run a good ground to it.

Question:Is there a way to get replacement mount studs for the nmo? The studus im looking for screw into the bottom of the nmo.
Answer:I'm not sure what you talking about, but, they're are several types on NMO on the Internet. Keep looking on Amazon and I think you will find one that will fit you need. Normally, that is what I do. Amazon is a great help on selling a great assortment of parts. I ordered my as a mirror mount and it serves my need.

Question:Anybody know what adaptor i would need to attach the cable to the Baofeng handheld radio? Thank you
Answer:I use the ( VCE 2 Pack SMA Female to UHF Female SO-239 Coax Adapter ), you get 2 for $10.00, that's 1 spare and screws onto my 82 hp radio. Works great with my 72 mag mount antenna.

Question:Does the browning br-180 amateur dual-band mobile antenna fit onto this mount? thank you.
Answer:If your antenna is an NMO mount and the BR-180 is an NMO mount then yes it would work.

Question:Is the nmo a standard size? looking to rugged radio 1/2 antenna
Answer:Yes, NMO type is the most popular mount. You need an antenna with NMO mount to fit this item.

Question:what is minimum diameter mirror this can be mounted to?
Answer:I would say apps 1/2", but I mounted mine on my roof rack and it was bigger.

Question:Can the clamping plate be turned 90° for mounting to a vertical post?
Answer:Yes, it can be turned so the groove is either horizontal or vertical, or removed entirely so the mount can be used as a bolt-in "L" bracket too.

Question:How many watts can this mount and coax handle?
Answer:It depends on an operating frequency. Basically RG58A/U can handle a kilowatt on HF, into a matched load.
If you run SSB-CW-PSK31, you should be in good shape unless you're transmitting into a real mismatch. For RTTY, you'd better go for a thicker cable.
