Works Great

I purchased this patch panel as part of a set up for adding better connectivity to the far side of my house. I ran a Cat6 cable from my main router/switch to my entertainment room and set up this patch panel to accommodate that cable run and all the runs I needed for my Ring POE security cameras. I matched this patch panel with a very nice NetGear POE switch for the camera connections as well as a hardwired computer for multi media projection and a another WiFi router for stronger bandwidth for all my wireless devices. I could not be happier as I am getting a solid 250-300MBS on my wired devices. This patch panel made all the connections easy and I didn't have to strain my eyes trying to crimp RJ45 connectors at the end of my runs.

Bought without hesitation again!

Had to purchase a 2nd one, original panel didn't withstand a lightning strike to house, lost 1 port on panel, a router, Sony Bravia TV and several other electrical items in house. NOT THE FAULT OF THE PANEL, that's why I purchased a replacement without hesitation.

Excellent, nonstandard use

Pulled the mini patch panel from the metal housing and installed in the face of a custom 1U SBC enclosure.

Meets all requirements for a functional 16 port RJ45 panel

Had 16 ports. Some ports didn't work because of my personal mistake. Ports worked when I fixed the mistake. Data transfers when I ran the wires properly. Works fine when installed and wires are properly set. Cannot perform miracles when installed wrong. Product works fine.

Great! Easy for a first time installer.

Installation was a breeze. Wiring diagrams made it nice and easy to install the cables. If I was to nit-pick anything, it would be that on some of the more inside ports the diagrams don't line up perfectly making me have to do a double take to which wire goes where, but hardly anything to make this little guy loose any stars.

Question :

If you get a Cat 5 model, can you still plug cat6 cables into it?

Answer :

All lan cables from cat3 to cat10 all use RJ-45 connectors. This means you can physically plug any cable into the panel, and your speed will be limited by the slowest component.

Question :

Would you be able to unscrew the actual patch units from the rack mount frame?

Answer :

Probably. I think it is a block of 6 from memory, but why bother? If you want smaller units just buy individual keystones & mount theminto your project that way.

Question :

does this come with a wall mount? It's mentioned but not shown in the photos

Answer :

Mine did not come with a wall mount. I had to find a wall mount. I don't remember where, but probably on Amazon 3 1/2 years ago.

Question :

what type of punchdown tool does this require? 110 or krone?

Answer :

110

Question :

Does the 8 port cat 5 version include a wall mount? Can you screw this into a wall straight out of the package?

Answer :

It does NOT include a wall bracket, the provided holes can be wall mounted with 3" wall mount screws and spacers but its a lot easier getting the wall mount bracket

Question :

I need to mount this to a wall. What wall bracket do I use? The unit says its 10" wide

Answer :

Hi!

Thanks for your interest in TRENDnet!

You will need to fabricate your own mounting system.

Question :

I have used levitron snap-in jacks and have their cheap punch-down tools. will the levitron tool work on the trendnet jacks?

Answer :

Yes.

Question :

Can you mount this directly into sheetrock? or does it need to get installed into a rack or wall mount?

Answer :

It belongs on a rack. Its 19 inches wide. If you put in sheetrock the stud will be in the way if they are 16 inches apart. Its up to you how u want to do it

Question :

Is there a bracket available to use this for a surface mount?

Answer :

No. I used 2 cut 2x4 to make mount blocks. If there is a hole and cable access behind it, then yes you can surface/flush mount
