Works great, a bargain

I bought this cord to connect a new 1TB WD external drive to my old Mac G5 tower--I needed to go from Firewire 800 (the WD drive) to 400 (the Mac). (The drive, of course, operates at the slower speed but when if I want to use it on a computer with Firewire 800, all I have to do is upgrade the cord.) This cord works perfectly and I'm glad it's 6' long because it gives me enough room to move it away from my work area a bit and clear up some desk space. I now have five external drives going on my desk and it's getting a little bit nuts with cords, so having one that's this long really is quite helpful.

I know nothing of the technical quality of cords, but this works, it's like half the price (or less) than other brands and I can think of other things I'd rather spend the money on than cords.

it works

I am using this for my older pro tools digi rack 2 interface audio into an imac and have had no audio/data issues.

Worked, where short hard adapter did not, for iSight camera!

This cable arrived when it was supposed to. It was worth the wait. I had already tried a small plastic adapter for my external iSight camera, on my new (2012) MacMini. The small adapter let the iSight show up in Firewire on my Mac, but nothing worked. Facetime crashed when I launched it. Then this came in the mail. Glad I ordered it on Amazon at the same time as my smaller adapter. This cable goes straight from the camera to the MacMini. When it worked I was delighted! Now I can use my original external iSight Camera with my new OS X 10.8.5 Mac mini.

Works great.

If you have a Mac or PC with a Firewire 800 connection, and a device with a Firewire 400 connection, buy this cable. It works just fine as advertised, and appears rugged, thick, and sturdy.

However, another reviewer claims the connectors are too small, and that the cable sits loosely in his plugs. I have not had that experience with my iMac or my Maxtor external HDD. However, he has also pointed out that the stiffness of the cable combined with those loose-fitting connectors make it easy to tap the cable and for it to come unseated. This may be a concern for some, but I simply have my backup HDD sitting on my desk next to my iMac and connected with this cable, and I've never had a problem with a cable coming loose. It's my Time Machine HDD so it gets used all the time, and it's worked just fine.

No issues at all

No problems with shipping or the product. Works like a cable should. I use it to connect my mac mini to imacs at the school to use it as a monitor for my mac mini. If anyone wants to know, you have to turn the imac and macmini/other computer both off. Turn on the macmini/other computer, turn on while holding F key for about 20 seconds to make it run in disk mode. Then turn on imac while holding the option key till you see a menu to use the mac mini as a bootable hard drive. Then it makes the imac run itself but using the mac mini as the hard drive. Works great!

Great firewire cable for connecting two MacBooks together

I needed a Firewire cable for connecting 2 MacBook Pro's together so I could create a disk image.
This cable works great. It doesn't actually look like the picture, its not black. Its a clear pastic cover around a silver braid.
If you compare Thunderbolt vs Firewire, obviously Thunderbolt wins everytime, but if you compare a $40 + Thunderbolt cable, this Firewire cable becomes a lot more competitive.

This cable is just what I was looking for to connect to my Firewire connection on back of my computer to my Western Digital My Passport Hard Drive for transfering pictures in case of a hard drive failure on the computer.
The cable is small yet long enough to go from the back of my computer and around to the side so I can keep it somewhat hidden.
It is perfect for what I need with fast data transfering.

Does the job!

Came well packaged, hooked it up easily to my Firewire Card and to my RME Fireface 800 and everything is working perfectly! BOOM! Great value, great performance! Can't review durability since it is still new.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:can i use this firewire cable to go from my 2011 desktop mac to my 2012 macbook - need to put desktop in target mode to pull files into the macbook?
Answer:If your two devices have 800IEEE,which I am sure they do,yes! I am using it on my MACBOOK PRO to MyPassport Studio for download.Works very well.Good Luck!

Question:does this cable, on its own, allow a person to transfer data off an old macbook (2007) to a Macbook Pro (2010)?
Answer:Yes, I believe so. I bought it to transfer files from my old iMac to my macbook pro and it worked great. Can't speak about longevity of the product as i only have used it one time. But it allowed for a pretty fast transfer time. No troubles here. I don't think you'll need an adapter, but I used the adapter that came with my MacBook Pro.

Question:Can i use this firewire 800 cable to connect from a 2009 mac pro desk top to a 2008 imac to use the imac as a monitor to display what's on the mac pro
Answer:No. This is to use another laptop or Mac mini in Target mode as an external hard drive. To view as a monitor, you need to use the thunderbolt port, which only handles video output on older models. For further info, see Apple forums.
