The outdoor Blink cameras are already rated for outdoor use, so why is this product necessary?
I didn't actually buy these for added weather protection - I bought them because I wanted my outdoor cameras to be a bit less obvious - most of my home's exterior is light in color and having a big ol' black camera mounted on the wall would be pretty ugly. So, putting the Blink cameras in these covers up all but a small rectangular portion on the front of the camera.
But the case IS a weatherproofing aid and it DOES help. It's funny how outdoor Blink cameras can get coated with dirt and grime, even when they're completely covered from direct exposure to the elements. These cases take the brunt of that and can be slipped off and washed in the sink.
And I have a mixture of first and second gerneration Blink exterior cameras and was wondering if they would work with both. (Blink changed the back mount on the cameras and that was my concern.) Well, they DO cover the two different styles of cameras.

I was always interested in a security camera. More for the deliveries and occasional visitor to our front door. I was not interested in setting up a very elaborate wired system throughout my house that was more than I needed. I really wanted completely wireless and wifi connected that did not require a subscription. Enter Blink XT!
These run on batteries for up to 2 years (we'll see about that) and connect easily to my home wifi. They have a free app and web storage included. They are motion activated and you can set them to record for whatever length you want. The length affects your battery life of course. The camera I bought is the outdoor version so it is weatherproof and has "night vision" that actually works. You can set many functions of the camera as far as sensitivity to motion, which parts of the "frame" you want to be active for motion detection, quality, and length of the video, plus many other elements. I set a special notification tone so I know when it is activated.
I have to say I am very satisfied with the product. The camera works as advertised and takes high-quality video. If it is very rainy (wet or humid) the camera is a little blurry, but what can stop that? The motion activation works great and the notification is instant. I have to say I am shocked at the value for the low price point.
Ok now for the only negative I have found. The mounting can be a little tricky. I wanted to mount over my front door without putting holes in my stucco walls. The other element is a big window over the front door. So I repurposed an old suction cup auto phone holder and put it on my window and then just put the camera in it as I used it for the phone. Now I can move the camera angle every way I need and can move it to another location without any damage. I think they should add this element as part of the product. It could be a smaller scale item that would provide much greater flexibility. I might be adding some additional camera for other locations in teh future.
