I really like this monopod/tripod/handle mount. Holds the camera well and easy to use. The only thing that I wish were different is that a wrist mount/tie/cable was incorporated. You can make your own out of whatever you want if you like, but since there isn't any hole or way to secure it, you would have to go through one of the holes in the leg. Once you do that though, it interferes with the legs extending or retracting depending on where you put the cable.
Other than that, it's great. Sturdy and reliable as any pod should be.

A number of parts that can't be combined in different configs to give you a tripod or a monopod for your cellphone, GpPro or DSLR. The biggest thing is how compact it is when carrying and being able to switch up how I want to hold my camera at a moment's notice.
It has securely held everything I have attached it to. It even handles uneven terrain fairly well.

I use a laser level when installing wall tile. Many times I need to position it at a level much lower than my regular tripod will go but higher than on the floor. You do not want to have the tripod unattended when full extended. It will blow over in the wind, but with a smaller camera like GoPro etc, not too much of any issue. But stay near it.
As for smell, it has less order than the people you are taking the pictures of.

How can you take pictures with it as a selfie stick if there is no remote or button on the stick for picture taking?

If your phone has a timer, you would have to set it and get in position in front of your device before the timer comes on. Or if you have a remote for your device.

With the tripod base itself fully expanded, it measures about 7 & 3/8 inches between each leg (in width) and about 9.5 inches (in width) if you have the leg expanders pushed out on each individual leg.
As to a 12.9 inch iPad balancing atop with this tripod being halfway extended in length and being attached to the base, it'll definitely become top heavy and I would think have a high probability of tipping over very easily. I sat in my recliner with this tripod setup and extended it as if I were to read myself. The first thing I noticed is the ease of tipping over even with my small 7" x 4" Tablet. It "might" be ok if you never bumped it when using it such as this, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. I've used this Tripod for a while now and I really like it, but you have to babysit it when it's extended. I always keep one hand on it when using it whether it's in monopod form or tripod form. It doesn't matter if my camera is attached or something as small as my cellphone which is a Note9...I never take my hand off of it.
Now, if you are using the base itself to mount the iPad directly to and setting it on tabletops/countertops, then yes. It's very sturdy and I would recommend use that way.
