While it’s possible to use a caddy for your Atomos Ninja V/V+ it just doesn’t look sleek and it protrudes out the side of the monitor. And forget paying the obscene price for the AngelBird SSD caddy (Great but expensive), this is a great alternative and you can repurpose those Samsung T5’s you may have laying around. Very easy to instal and setup, even if you have no experience with these things. AndyCine has videos and instructions that guides the process in detail.

The best thing to have happened to the Ninja V
Like many people I usually use a standard SSD put into the included sled you get with your Ninja V. The only thing I hate is how that drive sticks out the side. To get around that you had to purchase an Angelbird Atom X drive. However the 1tb version of that drive is a whopping $400!
Now we have the Lunchbox. You just need to disassemble a Samsung T5 drive and put the small mSata drive from inside that enclosure into the Lunchbox. That might sound like a daunting task however I was able to complete the task in about 10 minutes. It only took that long because I was being incredibly careful. It was actually incredibly easy to do.
The drive performance was expectational. I recorded DCI 4k 60fps ProRes RAW HQ from my GH5S without a single problem. Plus the drive tucks nicely inside the Ninja V with no overhang at all.
The build quality of the Magnalium casing is rock solid. There is zero flex in the enclosure.
Even with the cost of purchasing a new Samsung T5 drive, you save yourself roughly 60% compared to an Atom X.

There is nothing much to say. If you want to save, then this is the way to go. I am not a tech guy but I was able to do this easily even though I was scared going in. One last thing is that the final portable ssd (Andycine lunchbox) actually allows the Ninja V to breath as it no longer covers the ventilation, hence less chances of overheating. Great product!

I was using the standard plastic cady and full size ssd with my Ninja V and was OK with that but needed a second drive and therefore another plastic cady, but they come in a pack of 5 for £25 and that price for so little irked me a bit. Then I spotted the Andycine metal cady for not much more - I liked the look of it and although the T5 SSD, which you need to purchase to obtain a drive which will fit, is more expensive than other options, I thought I'd give one a go.
Dismantling the T5 drive is easy enough and the swap into the new housing was straight forward, only took about 5-10 mins. I like that I don't have the HD sticking out the side of the Atomos and it sits there on the back more securely than the overside original plastic caddy. It's a nice thing. Good job Andycine.

Please share a link of the “wd blue minicaddy”, I wont be able to tell if it is better than Samsung t5 yet, all I can say the Samsung t5 has been a pretty reliable product for multiples years now, with a very low percentage of failure with great speed, I must say I only been using the “Samsung t5 with the NinjaV” for 2 months now & no problem so far, in order to answer that question we will need someone who actually used that product over a period of time, for example the Samsung t5 2TB has been recommended in a lot of video editor Facebook group, and so far I haven’t read any negative feed back.
