Great Bang for the Buck!

After a trip to Southern Iceland with a some pro photographers with fairly beefy carbon fiber tripods, I was impressed with the stiffness and size to weight ratio of their gear. I had a compact, but serviceable travel tripod - but frequently found myself wishing I had taken something more substantial. When I returned to the US I immediately set about shopping for a good mid-sized carbon fiber tripod and based on features and price chose the Benro. I am very impressed with the utility and workmanship of the Benro. It came with a great case and tool kit as well as a very nice ball head at a great price. I can recommend this tripod without hesitation.

Its TALL! thats what i wanted make certain tall is right for you!

My preference is for gear is based on shooting a 4x5 View Camera. Big heavy tripod, remote cable release, low ISO, show up at dawn, and pray the wind stops blowing. I shoot from eye level and the Benro TML AXL extends to 72+ inches without the center column. If anything you need to replace the long center column by eliminating the column completely or replacing with a shorter column which is included. Construction is very good. This is a system tripod with a variety of accessories available too. If you need travel tripod, compact tripod, lightweight tripod, built in tilt over functionality, you need to buy that seperately or buy other gear. Highly Recommended! This is a very tall tripod!

Best tripod!

This tripod is fantastic and half or even quarter the price of other brands, yet it has all the features and comparable build quality if not better than some of the higher priced tripods. Rock solid even in windy conditions when completely extended. This is a top of the line tripod at a fraction of the cost of other name brands. I have friends that have manfrotto gear and it's not even built as well as this is. I purchased the gearhead to go with it and with the tripod and gearhead it meets or exceeds the quality of other name brand setups much more expensive than this. This is a high-end product at low end pricing. I would highly recommend this tripod series to anyone. I currently have the aluminum style but plan on purchasing the carbon fiber for photography expeditions. Same exact tripod only a little lighter than the aluminum version. Depending on what version of The Mach 3 series you purchase it even can be transformed into a monopod. Comes with a swap out short Center column for extremely low shots, changeable spiked tips for dirt, sand or gravel set up. Hands down the best tripod for the money!!! I would highly recommend this tripod to anyone looking for a quality piece of equipment that will last for years! I will definitely be purchasing another aluminum Mach 3 series for additional cameras and a carbon fiber Mach 3 series for a lighter alternative for backpacking photography excursions.

Great Tripod Love it!

This is my first Benro product. It is replacing a Manfrotto 055xproB. The Manfrotto is just too loose when the center column is extended and my camera is not staying put. Some exposure images were affected. The legs of the Manfrotto have also become loose over time and flop around when I pickup the tripod and move it. Doing real estate Photography it is important that the tripod maintain it's position from shot to shot.

The Benro is nice and firm out of the box. The leg have exposed hex head adjustments to prevent the legs from floppy around when it gets older. The center column it tight in both up and down positions. I thought the center column release on top looked kind of funny but once I tried it, I think it is much better than the little adjuster on the Manfrotto. Doing real estate shooting, I prefer to set my legs such that I can go quickly from room to room and only adjust the center column between shots. This Benro adjuster makes that super easy to do.

The legs lengthen and shorten easily with about 3/4 of a turn of the rubber lock nut. It's not hard at all to lock the legs in place. Very quick and easy to adjust the length. Comes with a very nice padded carry bag that has enough room to carry the tripod with an attached ball head.

I am really impressed with this tripod!

A great tripod with pro quality and features at a price that is affordable.

I was very happy with my 200 dollar travel tripod until I purchased a long lens. 200-600 zoom. Suddenly I had 2 new problems. Being a travel tripod it was designed and built with light components. With a mirrorless camera and a standard lens using the tripod was not a problem. Throwing a long lens on there and whoops, shake city. I tried every trick I could find but only one thing could fix it. A solid sturdy tripod. I spent days researching and evaluating and decided on this Benro model. I’m a serious amateur but I have a limited budget and went with the aluminum version of this model at 1/2 the price. I don’t hike 15 miles with my gear so this was a no brainer. I ordered the Benro gimbal with this but that is in a separate review. This tripod is a huge step up from my travel unit. Three section leg design, less wiggle on joints, larger tubing, 1” vs 1/4” on the smallest tube, Benro vs my travel unit. More stops, wider head plate, easier securing rings and amazing quality. I would recommend this to everyone. I have looked at the high end 1K units in the store and they simply don’t offer an upgrade over this that can come close to justifying the price. If you like big brand names and price doesn’t matter go for it but if you want to spread your money around on heads or other equipment this is absolutely the way to go. I put a borrowed head on this and it is rock solid. No shake no missed photos anymore. Great purchase.

Great tripod

I am a landscape photographer in the Pacific Northwest. I spend a lot of time on the Oregon Coast. Winter is my favorite time to be on the coast because of the extreme weather. This tripod is very stable in high winds, the surf, sand beaches, mud, rain-soaked forest floors, and slick rocks with water running down them. The conditions here are punishing for gear and this tripod has held up well. I have had saltwater from the surf and sea spray corrode parts of other tripods, no matter how well you take care of them. I have found no corrosion on this tripod as long as you maintain it properly. The removable center column enables me to get my camera close to my subjects in tidepools. The spikes for the feet keep it stable in the surf as waves wash across it up to three feet deep. The tripod is heavy but that is what I need. I highly recommend this tripod. The price is beyond well worth it.

Sturdy, stable, and smooth

Upgraded from a Mefoto Globetrotter.
Went with the series 4 aluminum extra long version. Weight was not an issue because I have the Globetrotter for travel.

First, what's immediately noticable from going to a mid/upper tier tripod is how easy it is to use. I find myself never having to hassle with the tripod during setup. Legs stay in place and don't move around, and the sections move smoothly that adjustments are quick and simple.

I've found that the Benro low profile g3 tripod head is a perfect match. The tripod fits perfectly in the both the dust bag and the carry bag with the g3 ball head still attached. I'm pretty sure this was benro's intention.

Best bang for your buck

This is my 5th tripod since starting bird photography 3 years ago and is by far the best one..the legs are thick but not too heavy. It's very well made, sturdy, doesn't move around with weight on it. I shoot with a nikon D500 and a tamron 150-600mm G2 lens and a gimbal not pictured and it has no problem supporting it. It's relatively quick to set up and move too. Overall this is the best 200 tripod I've owned.. the legs are easy to lock. The center tube moves easily and locks solidly.. I'm only 5'9 so keep this part in mind that I don't even need to use the bottom legs extended for it to be eye level..I just extend the first set and bring up the center column like pictured. If you're on the fence about buying it I highly recommend that you do. I also use their monopod with a wimberely gimbal and it's great.

Using A Serious Camera? Get A Serious Tripod. Like The Benro Mach 3 Extra Long 4 Series.

Using A Serious Camera? Get A Serious Tripod. Like The Benro Mach 3 Extra Long 4 Series. Yes I repeated it. It was worth saying. There is nothing cheap about this tripod. It's stocky. A little heavy but while taking photos on a the beach during heavy winds, the camera did not move. The height of right around 8ft is what I needed and wanted to get a higher viewpoint without a ladder. I used to have a Bimbo tripod, made in the UK, and thought I would never find a replacement. The Benro Mach 3 turns out to be a very good substitute.

Wow!

After spending literally hours and hours sifting through Amazon's list of hundreds and hundreds of sub-par tripods, I dug and dug and finally found this gem. I rarely get excited about purchases like this but I am beyond pleased with this item. Everything about this tripod - the design, engineering, materials, finish, and packaging are all first rate. I can tell the folks that make these tripods take enormous pride in their work and I can see why. It is a thing of beauty.

Question :

Are all the same items included for the TMA28A that are included on benro's website? Rubber and spiked feet, short and long column, dust cover & case?

Answer :

Yes to all the things you listed.

Question :

What is the length of the short column?

Answer :

I think it's about 2.5 inches. Basically it's just long enough to lock into the tripod. You won't be adjusting the short column up and down for height adjustments because there's just no more length to it.

Question :

In 2015, someone responded it comes with a case, short center column and the spiked feet. Are all these things still included?

Answer :

Yes all of that included. This was a great purchase...

Question :

What is the small D ring at the top?

Answer :

Hubby says the D ring is used to screw the mount to the bottom of the camera. Hope this helps.

Question :

Does this tripod come with the head?

Answer :

Benro Mach 3 tripods can be ordered both with or without a head. I have the BENRO MACH3 3 SERIES CF TRIPOD TMA37C and ordered it without a head. If you order a kit with a head, the cost will be higher reflecting the head you choose.

Question :

Can this tripod fit into the bag with a ball head attached?

Answer :

Yes, 6 inches of spaces available space. Very happy with this tripod and bag.

Question :

I already asked this, but i wasn't to be precise. does this tripod (tma48cxl) also become a monopod? i'm asking about this version: tma48cxl.

Answer :

No it doesn't.

Question :

Can this tripod support the weight of a Nikon D850 with a 28-300mm Lens?

Answer :

And more. I've had a D850 with a Sigma 500mm F4 prime lens on it many times with no issues. DBHayes Art (Deb & Bill)

Question :

Does this have a horizontal center column?

Answer :

The center column is vertical moving only.
