Unbelievable value for the money. Ordered another one the day the first one arrived.

I spent many years shooting docs and other television programming with $6K Sachtler tripods owned by my employers at the time. Then, when I started my own rural production company, I had to think smaller budget-wise. so bought some $700 Manfrotto tripods that have served me well. I recently acquired more cameras and needed some additional sticks, but wanted to further reduce spending without significantly compromising quality and feel -- if at all possible. Reviews convinced me to have a look at this Cayer BV25LH tripod. It arrived today and I'm relieved to see and feel that it's perfectly fine for my production purposes. Of course it's not as solid and substantial as tripods costing three to 30 times as much, but this tripod is nicely designed and constructed, and functions great, INCLUDING pan and tilt head, which is smooth and adjustable. The quick releases plate works fine. The legs extend HIGHER than any other tripod I've used, and the handles, while I think they should be longer, are adequate and well made. The soft case is good too. So, I was impressed enough upon this first inspection and testing functions, that I ordered another one. I'll update this review if I discover anything I don't like about this tripod. In the meantime, don't hesitate to buy one of these for your production needs. Especially if you're operating on a budget that places the brand names out of fiscally-responsible reach.

GREAT Product, Unbelievable after sales support!

first let me start by saying this is the first Cayer product I have purchased and will not be the last. I purchased this tripod for 3 reasons, The price, 2 pan handles and the height that the tripod would reach. There are times when we need to shoot over a crowd and we need the extra height of the BV25LH. The fact that it has carbon fiber sticks is a plus and makes the tripod manageable, portable and very sturdy. We mount 2 Sony cameras with 7 inch displays and wanted the 2 pan handles to allow us to mount the remote control grips for the cameras on the pan bars. When the tripod arrived it only had one pan handle. I contacted sales support and received and almost immediate response from them (Sophia was GREAT!). They shipped out a replacement complete fluid head which would have had another pan bar, however the two different fluid heads had different thread pitch on the attachment screws for the pan bar and so this did not resolve the issue. I almost just re-tapped the head with the different thread size but checked the alignment of the bars before doing so. upon inspection I noticed that the two bars would not line up due the the teeth on the matting surfaces. when the bar was moved to the other side of the head it was one half a tooth of making the two handle offset. I again sent support an email and received another almost immediate response and they sent out another pan bar (and included an additional QR plate for the trouble), this time coming from China with an explanation that the two bars would not line up. To correct this problem Cayer machined a shim that sits between the pan bar and the fluid head and adjusts the rotation the one half tooth it is off and makes the two bars perfectly level and in line. After all of this, i now have the tripod I was looking for and it is perfect. the Fluid head (K3) is smooth in both the pan and tilt direction. the counter balance works great and drag can be set with the two screws on the head. Our Friday night High School football broadcasts are vastly improved with this tripod and support of the product was second to none! I would absolutely recommend the BV25LH to anyone wanting a Pro level tripod at a reasonable price with support that beats ALL of the competition. this tripod replaced a professional tripod costing 5 times the amount and it has so far delivered the same or better performance. The Cayer company did literally everything in their power to satisfy me as a customer and support their product. This kind of support is rare these days and is super refreshing, our US based companies could take a few lessons from Cayer and their willingness to go several miles to win a customer and our business.

THANKS AGAIN Sophia and the Cayer support and engineering staff, well done!

Really nice tripod

Did not take me long to see that this is a seriously great tripod. This is a medium weight tripod and head and is exactly what I wanted. The carbon fiber really drops the weight. My smaller Aluminum tripod weighs more. The leg adjustments are easy to use. Leveling is easy with the ball head. Quick disconnect plate is OK and slides in and out OK, but requires two actions to make it stable. I was able too do nice pans and vertical motions very smoothly. Maybe not as good as a professional video head, but still rather good. Worth the money.

Great value on a lightweight tripod with a smooth fluid head

I shoot with a few different cameras from a Mirrorless Lumix to the Panasonic UX-90 pictured here. I was using some old Gitzo legs and Miller head that I've had for years, but were just getting too heavy and too difficult to maintain. I saw this one and it good-to-great revues and it was in a comfortable price point - so I thought I'd try it out.

It is very light-weight with the carbon fiber legs. The carbon fiber is sturdy, but still just a bit flexible. The mid-point mounted spreader helps with the stability. The spiked feet with the BIG rubber covers for floors are great. But I saved the best for last. The fluid head. I really didn't expect something so smooth for a $200 tripod. The ball mount is easy to adjust with the large, triangular handle. The quick-release plate is very stable ... no play in it once you tighten it in. But the movement is VERY smooth. Pan and tilt are extremely silky and the motion locks engage without adding excess movement to your shot. And once locked, hold the camera firmly in place. Very pleased with this purchase. Also, shipped quickly from Amazon.

Sturdy and smooth-panning tripod for heavier camera gear

For years, I was using the cheaper plastic tripods. They take a beating due to all the traveling to shows, etc. I still use them for holding my cell phone. But I got this Cayer BV25LH Video tripod when I needed something sturdier with float head to use with my new film making rig. The carbon fiber offers stiffness without being overly heavy. It comes with a nice and convenient carry bag which makes transport easy. The tripod head action is smooth and does what I want without play or jiggle. It comes with two handles for controlling the tripod head - I suppose it provides better control while panning or tilting. I've also attached a shorter slider on top of the tripod and it works fine maintaining stability. Overall, I recommend the tripod since it is budget friendly compared to other options and provides good functionality - everything you need a pro heavy duty tripod to do.

Excellent Value for the Money

I was looking for a decent tripod to support my JVC ProHD camera. The cheap little Amazon Basics tripods I bought last year were just inadequate for that thing. I looked at Manfrotto, and others up into the thousands of dollars, but decided to try this ~$200 one. It seems to be well made. The head appears to be well made. I was able to mount and balance my GYHM620 easily. Pans and tilts are nice and fluid.

For the money, I don't think you can beat it. Hopefully it holds up well.

Love this tripod

I ordered several different tripods before i got to this one. The others were too wobbly at the height i needed.

This one is extremely sturdy and can rotate extremely smooth. I have purchased two of them and will be my go-to tripod when height and sturdiness is a must.

Very sturdy and impressive

I did receive the tripod on time and was very happy with it. It will be used as a permanent setup in my art studio, so transporting it around a lot is not a goal. It is a bit heavy, but not in comparison to others of equal value. The only thing I would say to improve it would be to give it a bit of vertical adjustment after the legs are set. Or, if not that, put some graduated marks on the legs to allow you to see that each of the legs are set at an equal length. Oh...one more thing. The bubble level is fairly easy to read in one direction, but it is not possible to read from directly above when a camera is installed. I suppose you must level it before it is installed. I would actually like to see two small conventional levels one for each direction mounted on the back and the side. I find these are more dependable. I am an architect and am always redesigning things to make them work better. Just the way I am!

This item is very light and easy to work with

So I ordered this tripod as a replacement for an old travel tripod I use for outdoor work. The leg extensions are easy to use and the hight is fine for my uses. I had read that people feel this tripod is a little wobbly but I find it is more then sturdy enough for the price. I would like a sandbag hook for fast camera movements if that use came up. I use it for commercials, documentaries and corporate work.

I traded out the head for a manfrotto.

Nice kit for the price and good customer service when I had questions.

Excellent head on carbon tripod

Head is very good and I move it back and forth on my monopod. Excellent value and has provided a lot of good use. That said, its not all that light. But, carbon will transmit less sound than aluminum. This is a solid choice for small to medium sized professional camcorders.

SLIK Pro CF-634 Carbon Pro Carbon Fiber Tripod, Black (611-895)

Question & Answer

Question :

What is the weight of just the tripod, no head attached?

Answer :

It is about 6.6 lbs without the head.

Question :

How sturdy is the spreader attachment? First thing to go is always the spreader

Answer :

How sturdy is the spreader? When treated with care, it seems to be very durable. I've had this tripod for three years and used it for weddings, and photographing over 100 antiquities without any problem. I don't put my foot on it or stress it in any way.

Question :

Will work for Nikon P1000?

Answer :

Use a few times the screw will drop

Question :

If the head is removed, what size screw remains for mounting a different one?

Answer :

There is a 3/8"-16 mounting screw.

Question :

What is the purpose for having two pan handles?

Answer :

Yes: you have more Control, My case: I used D810 With Motor and Monitor 9 inches +Flashlight and 80 to 200 zoom that is heavy with two handles it more security + my flash it 590 Nikon. Well that is the reason I selected that Tripod.

Oscar

Question :

What's the weight limit for the legs? Could I put a stronger head on and get more strength out of the system?

Answer :

The tripod legs support up to 33lbs, you certainly could put the stronger head on it. Please note that the diatmeter of the mounting bowl is 75mm.

Question :

I would like to know if properly fits the Nikon P1000 with out any extra attachments.

Answer :

Yes. Your Nikon P1000 has a 1/4" 20 receiver on the bottom of the camera body. The tripod comes with a quick-release plate which will attach to your camera, and then, in turn, attach to the tripod.

Question :

Would this work with a tripod dolly?

Answer :

Yes, it works with the tripod dolly.

Question :

In the cayer specs above, why does this weigh the same as the aluminum bv30l, yet support the same load? i would expect cf to be lighter.

Answer :

The load capacity of the fluid head(13.2 lbs) is less than the tripld leg's (above 40lbs), we take the head's load as the full kit's on the product page. And for BV25LH and BV30L tripods, both tripods are using K3 fluid head, the load capacity will be shown as the same.

Question :

Can you mount a Nikon D70 on this tripod?

Answer :

Assuming Nikon has not stop placing a standard 1/4 20 Thread on the bottom of the body, your good to go. Though this is a pretty heavy duty video tripod, might be overkill depending on your lens selection.
