Works Great

This unit is working great for my intended purpose (measuring shade on hiking trails). I have connected its voltage output to an analog data recorder so I can view the time-varying light intensity levels on my laptop. The unit has been working great for several weekends of hiking, and does correctly identify shade/sun conditions. My only problem is that the switches are not recessed, so the unit got jostled in my backpack and went into a mode where the data resolution became inadequate for my needs, however I bought a switch cover to fix that issue.

Good light meter.

This is a well made meter with some nice features for a reasonable price. The data logging is good for unattended recording. The button push memory capacity is great if you need to record multiple readings but can't write them down as you go...like floating in a swimming pool:) The things we do for a living! Put it in a shallow plastic tub (oil drain tub), lay a towel in it to absorb any water that splashes, seal the meter (not the head) in a zip-lock baggie, throw on a floatation vest, and get paid to go for a swim! The software is pretty basic and hasn't been updated since 2007, but it works for what it is supposed to do, I am currently on Windows 7 and it works fine.

Solid light meter, higher quality than the average light meter.

A good lumen/lux meter that is a cut above the others on the market. Extech got it right on the higher quality materials on this meter.

Works great, sensitive

Works great, sensitive, durable and very affordable. If you just need to know relative light levels and are not concerned with hyper-accurate values, you can't beat the Ex-tech LT300. For me this a very good QA/QC tool for comparing scientific instrument consistency.

Great Product

Excellent product. Easy to communicate with the serial port and control the device from my computer. Asked the manufacturer for the serial protocol and they happily sent it to me. Would definitely recommend.

Question & Answer

Question :

Can you give me a calibration certificate with this unit?

Answer :

LT300 version with NIST costs $289.00 in our valuetesters store. There is a two week lead time, as each unit needs to be calibrated manually.

Question :

What is the lowest fc reading this unit will take? Will it measure as low as 0.02 fc?

Answer :

We have used this device on almost a daily basis since we examine potential customer sites for our lighting products. We found that the greatest consistent resolution you can get .05 increments reliably as compared to other like devices in the same setting. A good product in our opinion.

Question :

I can post the calibration certificate?

Answer :

I think the question needs to be directed to Extech. I'd be interested in their answer.

Question :

Hello? What is the brand of extech?

Answer :

Extech is it's own brand of meters and measuring instruments

Question :

can this meter properly read LED lights. i see it has 4 source selections but LED is not one of them

Answer :

No, this unit is not designed to be used with LED lights. Per the manual "pin point lighting such as with LED light
cannot be measured"

Question :

Is there any difference between the size of remote light sensor? I see there are two size: one is small and one is big. Thanks

Answer :

There is no difference in the ability to read Foot Candles accurately. Each model is calibrated for that sensor.

Question :

is it calibrated?

Answer :

The user manual recommends that calibration be performed on an annual basis. I assume it must start off being calibrated, but I do not know.

Question :

Hello, does it come with a factory calibration record?

Answer :

if you order the Standard Configuration it does not come with a calibration certificate. But if you order With Certificate of Tracebility to NIST Configuration it will include the Calibration Certificate.

Question :

does it measures led light? does it comes with a calibration certificate? low long the certificate lasts?

Answer :

yes you can measure LED light, mine did not come with a certificate but you can send it in to Extech for a NIST calibration or you buy it calibrated (HD450-NIST)

Question :

Will this meter work to detect bioluminescence?

Answer :

Thank you for your question, the Extech LT300 will not be able to detect bioluminescence. If you have more questions, please go to https://flir.custhelp.com/ and click on where it says Technical support and then “ask a question”; we will be looking forward to hearing back from you!.
