edit - I'm an idiot, this is a fine piece

(Note - leaving this here in case someone already read my incorrect review) Seems to be well made and solid, but NOT 46mm. I have several other 46mm filters that fit my lens, but this seems to be 47mm or so, even though it's marked 46mm.

EDIT - I am an idiot. I ordered a step DOWN ring from 49mm to 46mm. What I needed (and just ordered from Fotodiox) is a step UP ring from 46mm to 49mm. Sorry for the incorrect review, for besmirching the good name of Fotodiox, and for the massive brain fart. And yes, I vote, so be very afraid. ;)

Quality ring

I needed this size to connect my video camera to the night vision. This is a quality made ring that does the job perfectly. I'd only recommend a high resolution picture of the ring to help people make sure they are getting the correct step-up or step-down ring they are looking for. Thank you!

Very well made, description is correct. It has 62mm Male Threads and 52mm Female Threads.

I need this 62mm Male to 52mm Female Step Down Ring to thread the 62mm diameter Male threads on the adapter into the 62mm Female threads of the front of my Nikkor AF-S Micro 60mm f/2.8 G lens on my Nikon Z7 to attach it to a 1960s Asahi Pentax Copipod with a 49mm male threaded mounting ring. I also had to use a 49mm Female to 52mm Male Step-Up Ring to complete the connection. The Copipod then allows me to use a table top for copying flat artwork or small objects to the camera without motion blur. I can also use a wireless release on the camera..

Fotodiox Metal Step-down and Step-up rings

I've been using Fotodiox step-up and step-down rings for a while now and I like the way they handle. So far I've had no issues. They go on easy. And I haven't had any issues with sticking when being removed. They are thin which is nice when using to attach a CPL filter that is on the thicker side. However, because they do come off easy, when rotating the CPL filter they might loosen so you have to sometimes retighten the ring. They are nice accessory to have instead of buying a filter for each lens.

Well-machined threads make it an easy on and off.

The well-machined threads attach smoothly to the lens and the attachment. The original lens cap over the lens will not work with the filter ring left on. As a result, if you'd like to leave the ring on, you'll need a 55 mm cap.

Works great, no need for REALLY pricy Breakthrough version

Was going to purchase the Breakthrough model for $30, but couldn't justify the cost. This one works just great and does the job, and even if it doesn't last as long as the Breakthrough I could buy four more for the same price as one Breakthrough.

Seems to be nicely made. There isnt much to go wrong here

I am a pro photographer. Numerous filters and high end lenses. Always skeptical about 3rd market products, but figured, well... it is only a metal ring for stepping down on one of my filter sizes. This does the job. Seems to be nicely made. There isnt much to go wrong here. The threads are smooth and clean - no problems mounting and removing when needed. A lot less cost than OEM and no reason, in this case, to spend more. This works!!

Great solid step down ring!

Works just as good as the high price step down rings. Just take your time putting it on and taking it off. Highly recommend

Worked as described. Would definitely purchase again.

Works as described. Happy I was able to find this as I'm a complete novice and purchased macro lens that screw onto the existing lens. I didn't understand how it fit as I didn't see the rings and thought I was unable to use my other lens. Awesome fix for it. Ring is made of metal, not plastic and seems to be pretty high quality. It's not very large so sometimes hard to take off the end once attached.

Form and Function

If you want to convert all your 62mm filters to be functional with a 55mm lens than this step down ring is for you. The threads make it easy to screw on or off to any applicable pieces. Well made and can't beat the price. I noticed no abberations or vignetting in images produced by my A350 Sony digital camera and the 18-200mm lens attachment. The lens is 62mm, so I can now use all the filters I bought originally for the camera that came with 18-70 and 55-300mm lenses that have a 55mm diameter. Would highly recommmend this ring. ej. orange county, CA

Question & Answer

Question :

just received step down ring 82mm to 77 mm. Why it can't fit in my TIFFEN 82mm Variable ND filter?

Answer :

Because the step down filter is so you can use a 77mm filter on a lens that has a 82mm filter thread

Question :

Will this item could connect to a 55mm adapter that mounted a muti image glass and to connect to a 62mm lens camera ? Or a step Up ring would work ?

Answer :

Quoting from this site:
https://www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam/User-Guide/filter/thread-rings.html
"here are three types of "rings": step-up, step-down, and macro coupler that are also referred to as reverse rings. Except for macro couplers, the step-up and step-down rings have one end (with male thread) to be mounted on the camera lens and the other end (with female thread) is used for accepting filters, another ring or other accessories. A ring has two size markings in millimeter such as 28mm-37mm, 49mm-52mm, 77mm-72mm and so on. The first number is the size of the thread that is closer to the camera lens (i.e., the male thread), while the second is the size of the thread of the farther end (i.e., the female thread). Therefore, a step-up ring with marking 43mm-49mm means the male and female thread sizes are 43mm and 49mm, respectively. Similarly, a step-down ring with marking 77mm-72mm means the male and female thread sizes are 77mm and 72mm, respectively."
So, the 62mm-55mm step down ring, would mean this adapter would screw onto your camera lens that is 62mm....and then you could screw onto that something (say a multi image glass filter) that is 55mm in size.
So, yes, this step down filter would allow you to attach your 55mm multi-image glass adapter to a 62mm lens.
I'm guessing you would have a bit of vignetting tho....

Kelly

Question :

Can you use it to attach 55 m lens to the 58

Answer :

Hello,

This is for attaching male threads measuring 55mm to to female threads that measure 58mm.

Question :

Will it help to attach Panasonic DMW-LW46 Wide Conversion Lens to Lumix GH2 14-42 Lens or 45-200 Lens?

Answer :

This is just a step down ring for attaching filters so you don't need to have different sized filters. However it does have a thread which allows you to screw in the filter or possibly a conversion lens but not sure how it would work.

Question :

Anyone that's experienced can tell me if a 77mm to 62mm adapter can be used on a tamron a005 lens with a nikon d810? is this all i need?

Answer :

This will not be of any use to you. If you are looking to use your existing 77mm filters on the Tamron A005 (70-300mm) you would need a Step UP ring(outer threads on the smaller side, inner threads on the larger side) rather than a Step DOWN ring (inner threads on the larger side, outer threads on the smaller side).
With this product the camera body won't make any difference. If you would like more assistance please contact techsupport@fotodiox.com and we can help you find all of the products to fit your needs.

Question :

If I have a 77mm filter and I want to use it on my 58mm lens do I need the 77mm-58mm step down ring or do I need the step up ring 58mm-77?

Answer :

In your case is a step-up ring. Always measure from camera to filter. If the filter is larger than camera it´s a stepup otherwise it´s stepdown Look for fotodiox rings, they´re great . See this

Question :

confused. I have a 72mm lens and need to adapt to 77mm filter. Will this work?

Answer :

Answer: NO, this will not work. You need a "72-77mm adapter ring." The first dimension is towards the camera lens; the second is away from the camera lens, i.e., your filter size. Search Amazon for "72-77mm adapter ring."

Question :

I bought this to adapt 55mm filters to my 58mm lens. This piece has both threads internal, do you have a solution?

Answer :

This ring Fits on a 58mm Male lens thread and a 55mm Female thread which will fit a 55mm filter.

Question :

I want to use this step-down 82mm to 77mm, so I can use my 77mm polarizer on my wide angle lens. Will this diminish the wide angle lens in any way?

Answer :

If your wide angle has 82mm as it's filter size, then YES it will cause vignetting around the image. If you were attempting to move from 77mm to 82mm, all would be well, but the reverse is not true.
