These xD-Picture cards are the best deal on Amazon. My Dad bought a refurbished Fuji F470 digital camera for Christmas that was supposed to come with a 16 MB xD card and a battery. Only the camera came, so he called the company and they said it was a typo in the catalog, that no xD card came with the camera. I told him, don't bother with 16 MB, we can order 1 GB cards on the internet. Sure enough, Amazon had a great deal and the Fuji brand was cheaper than Sandisk or other brands. Since it was a Fuji camera, we decided to get two of the 1 GB cards. He had been using the little camera and then removing the card and putting directly into his new HP laptop. The files transfer over effortlessly and can then be transferred to our desktop server over our wireless network.

xD 512 memory card: good idea

My camera is several years old, and cannot use a Gigabyte card. The 512 MB card stores over 300 photos at 6 M pixels, and can be used for movies with sound (almost 15 minutes on my Fujifilm camera). The price is better than even a few months ago, and with several of these cards I can take lots of photos, or a reasonable amount of movie time. No trouble yet with the card. Highly recommended.

Works great in my Olympus C-8080 8 mega pixel camera

This card works perfectly in my 8 megapixel Olympus C-8080 digital camera.
At the camera's highest resolution setting of 3264x2448 pixels with minimal JPEG compression (SHQ in Olympus terminology), I am able to shoot and store 130 pictures. This is approximately 3.9MB per image on average.
At 640x480 pixels with 'normal' JPEG compression, this xD card fits 5324 pictures. It's also very fast and well worth the money and convenience.
I also have the 256MB xD card as a bsckup in case I fill up the entire 512MB xD card before downloading the images to my laptop PC.

Works Great with my Older 3800 Finepix

I was unsure if this card would work with my 2002 model Fujifilm 3800 Finepix. I put the card in and turned the camera on and it recognized it. This card holds 817 pictures at the cameras highest resolution 3M F. It holds over 3000 at 1M. The video seems to work well also with this card even though the instructions say that there may be a problem with the video. The card reader on my HP win 7 PRO also recognized the card as soon as it was inserted. I am going to the coast in Aug and won't have to worry about filling up this card before I get back to download the pics.

Great product, got ripped off on shipping

The XD card does exactly what it is supposed to. The price was good and the seller, Adorama Camera Inc, did what they were supposed to.

Amazon on the other hand...since I paid over $6.00 for shipping, on a part that's wieght was only a couple of ounces, including packaging, I figured would be sent UPS or FedEx ground. They sent it US Snail Mail and it took about 2 weeks to get here. I even called Adorama, they said the package went out the day after I ordered it and Amazon requested US Mail.

Other than Amazon making money on the shipping and taking too long to get here, I would say it went ok.

The Fujifilm 512 MB XD Picture Card works for me!

I just bought a FujiFilm S5100 digital camera and this FujiFilm 512 MB xD Picture Card. First, let's discuss speed. The following are image processing and write times for some popular cameras:

6152 kbs = Canon Rebel XT (CF)

4805 kbs = Panasonic FZ5 (SD)

2368 kbs = FujiFilm s5100 (xD)

1017 kbs = Canon IS S1 (CF)

615 kbs = Konica Minolta Z5 (SD)

I got these numbers from a popular camera review site. (dpreview) The numbers show that the storage media has very little to do with how fast a camera processes and writes an image. The image processing engine used by the camera will largely determine the overall speed.

Price used to be a big issue with xD cards. Today, pricing is similar to other storage formats. At the time of this review, the SanDisk Ultra II 512 MB SD card is actually more expensive than the FujiFilm 512 MB xD card. While the SanDisk Ultra II 512 MB CF card is the least expensive, they are all within about 10 dollars. If you are not looking for high performance, you will have many more options with SD and CF. You can find low performance CF cards for about half the price of the FujiFilm xD card.

Bottom line is this: the storage media used is going to play a very minor role when I choose a camera. I tend to buy the largest memory card I can get and just leave it in the camera. I just transfer the pictures to my PC through the USB connection on the camera. With my FujiFilm S5100, I can get about 268 JPEGs in 2272 x 1704 Fine mode. The card works great and has decent speed. No complaints...

The quality was actually better than I had with the 16MB chip

At first I was looking to increase the number of photos I could put on my digital camera. After looking at the prices for chips of various sizes, I investigated further and found that most digital cameras that use my technology, could use up to a 640 MB chip for storage. The price difference for the chip I had originally considered was only about $3 lower than the 512 chip that I purchased. I was blown away with the capacity of this chip. This card has worked fine so far. 1 GB card gives me 412 pictures on my 5mp Fuji Z2 at the highest quality setting, or 14 minutes 54 seconds of video at 640x480. I wish I had gotten this card sooner. I wasn't sure about the difference between the Type M and the Type H. My 512 MB cards were Type M, and I didn't have any trouble with them, so I stuck with Type M for the 1GB.

Answer :

Ed, set your camera ready to shoot a picture. There should be a place or button to go into Photo mode. Here on the screen the camera will tell you. It depends on megapixels. At 4M my camera will take 215 pictures for a 512 XD card. At 2M it will take 331 pictures for the 512 xD picture card. At .03 it will take 1618 pictures for a 512xD picture card. Bear in mind the less megapixels reduces the options for larger pictures. 4M will give large pictures at the photoshop say for example a 16 X 30. Whereas a .03 you might be lucky to get a 4x6. The last is just a guess.

I think any flash memory card reader will do the trick provided it will fit/ connect to your computer. Get one with plenty of memory storage say 2GB so that you don't have to download to your main computer right away.
