Not just a toy - works for filming
I see several reviews talk about this as a toy. I purchased this for actual filming. We've been using the old fashioned method of clapping, which isn't the best for lining up several videos on the timeline. I thought I'd try this - I'm thrilled! This makes a sharp enough sound to create a visible spike in the sound on the timeline. Sooo much easier to line up your various films using this. Good product for the price
I like the blackness of the color, is really deep and also the white is truly white, the surface is very easy to write on and cleaning is a breeze.
It comes with an erasable white pen, which is very easy to clean with a wet cloth, no residue is left whatsoever. I haven't used chalk on it, so I can't tell is it's easy to erase too.
One thing I really like is the fact that the back of it is all black and you can write and eras as well, so that gives you a blank black board for other purposes not just as a cinema clapper.
The hinge on it works very smooth, a gentle push/pull will close/open it but is strong enough to hold the weight of the upper part very well.
I got this as a photography prop, so to me, the finish quality is very important and because of that I give it a 4 star, there are a few things that could be better in that area, you can see the pictures where the wood is not smooth, but it doesn't affect unless your doing macro photography. But again, this is just because I use for professional photography.
Overall the clapper works and looks great if you want it to use it for it's true purpose or as a party or photo prop it works wonder and at a very good price.

I bought this both for the aesthetic and what looked like a sturdy quality. For the price, it's exactly what I wanted. We used it on set for a 14 hour day production. It held up great. We chose to use different markers than it came with (one of our crew had better ones already on hand), but the little one it comes with would have been fine for the day too. I'd say be prepared to buy more markers for it. We used a damp washcloth to erase it all day long. Afterwards, I put it back in the bubble wrap and box it came in so it doesn't get destroyed in storage until I can figure out how to hang it on the wall as a decoration when I'm not using it.
