Great little portable gel kit for my Nikon flash.
There are so many fun things you can do in your creative photography adventures with colored gels and multiple flash units or fixed lights with colored glass in front of them. This portable little set of various colored plastic "gels" make for a wonderful starter set for beginner photography enthusiasts and professionals alike. Don't expect these plastic gels to last as long as the older glass ones, they will begin to curl and warp from use over time, but this set is so inexpensive that you would just buy another set when you are ready. My 2nd set arrived a short while ago, my first set (different brand, but almost exactly the same) lasted almost two years. As some plastic gels became unusable, I switched to a slightly different shade of the gel I had been using, then adjusted my flash accordingly. I also enjoyed combining two gels together to get additional colors, so you may want to try this, too.
The velcro strap that goes around the strobe head of your flash allows for a perfect and snug fit and does not slide off easily. My other kit used a rubber band that went around the strobe head, but it lost its elasticity over time. The velcro band works better. I use it on my Nikon SB-800 flash and fit the velcro to the strobe head, then am able to slide it on and off as the situation requires, or I can simply leave it attached and flip the barn door up and out of the way when I don't want to use it.
Besides the colored plastic "gels" that slide into the transparent plastic barn door, there is a reflective silver bounce reflector, which also has a black reverse side.

My photography teacher had an old set of gels with the big blue rubber band and he was knocking stuff all over the place trying to get them on. The only issue is that the gels slide out of the holder very easy but its not a big deal. Im sure it will be an easy fix with a little tape. Also, The gels! there are tons of colors to choose from. Ok, I've only used this in one photo shoot, but I freaking love it!
So SO easy to use and it doesn't allow for any flash spill like my other one that holds the gel with a wide rubber band type of strap. That one allows flash "light" spill which is ok if that's the look you are going for.
You can see in the picture I've attached that this product was used on the left side while the other type was on the right side ( why the right arm is lit up).. which my client really liked so it wasn't a big deal.
I'm looking forward to using these more often. Everything seems well made so I'm sure they will last for quite a while.
