📸 Beginner Advice: Consider the CROP sensor

First off, this lens is great for added sharpness, bokeh, and quick autofocus. The rumors are true this is a great prime lens and really improves your photography. Most amateur photographers will want the 16mm, 24mm, or 30mm (if not all) for a prime (no zoom) lens. However, if you have the Sony a6400 or similar models you HAVE TO consider the crop sensor.

This lens will NOT be a true 30mm width lens on a crop sensor camera. You have to times the MM by about 1.5 to get the "true" lens size. This will be more of a 45mm on a crop sensor camera (like the A6400). This is NO FAULT to Sigma or this lens since this will be a true 30mm on a full-size sensor camera (like on the Sony A7iii). I had to learn this the hard way so I figured I'd point this out to those looking to replace the kit lens on their Sony A6000s series camera.

This lens is one you can use with various Sony cameras and I would recommend the Sigma brand as I've used them heavily with Canon (now Sony) camera. No complaints. I hope this review helps :)

One of the sharpest lens for a fraction of a Sony lens

For the price, you can’t beat this lens. It’s super fast at f1.4. It’s one of the sharpest lens available. Not having OSS isn’t that big of a deal honestly. Not when you’re paying so little for a lens this good. 30mm basically becomes a nifty 50 on a crop sensor so the lens is extremely versatile. The build quality is great, doesn’t fee cheap at all and it isn’t too heavy. For not being a native Sony lens, the autofocus is still pretty fast. On my a6400, the autofocus is great even on video. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with this purchase. The extras that come with it is just icing on the cake.

Insane lens!!!

I recently got a Sony A6000 from my girlfriend for Christmas and this was the first lens on my list to buy, and I gotta say it was worth every single penny. The autofocus is extremely fast, the sharpness top tier, and the colors pop! I've used it for a few portrait shots and it adds a nice amount of bokeh {though the 56mm is better for portraits, this is a great starter) and it's pretty good for a few landscape photos as well. The stabilization isn't great unless you have IBS, but it's still a good lens for video if you have a gimbal/tripod...or you aren't moving that much I suppose. I'd highly recommend this lens to anyone looking at it!!

Great Value Lens

I Love this lens. I use it with my Sony alpha 6000 and it does way better than the original lens or the Neewer manual focus lens I had before it. Just be careful the f.1.4 is so low that it is very sensitive to depth of field. You need to be careful what part of the image you're setting the auto focus on - in a portrait at f.1.4 you can have the person's nose in sharp focus but the ears already blurred. But the lens is great. Highly recommended.

I love this. Sharp as hell

I love this lens so much. One thing that bothers me sometimes is the autofocus. I say roughly 80% its fine but sometimes it either misses focus completely or just wont seem to "grab it". Also purple fringing is pretty bad in bright light but I dont rlly care since Im just a hobbyist. If you're thinking about this lens, get it. You will not regret it. Unless autofocus, stabilization, and video are your priorities, probably go for the sony 35.

Crispy

Love this Lens! If you have a sony a6400 I highly recommend this lens as it is a huge upgrade over the kit lens. In my bag I have a 50mm sony lens, this sigma, the kit and a 12mm Rokinon and it is my favorite to capture mid-range shots with crisp detail

Great inexpensive lens for Sony mirrorless Camera.

Inexpensive F1.4 30mm lens for Sony mirrorless. Light weight. Sharpe and quick. I attach on Sony a6000 all the time now. I don’t see any color and contrast disturbances. The accessories come with it are so so but nice to have them in the bag.

My favorite lens!

If it was stabilized it would be perfect. That said it's as close as I've ever found. Great price, razor sharp, useful focal length, quick focus, small size. Yep it has a lot of what I want from a lens!

Great lens, not mechanical focussing ring

Sharp, fast lens, really happy with it. One detail: manual focussing-by-wire (not mechanical) is working great, but you lose the focus when the camera is turned off: then lens resets to infinity when the camera is turned on again. Keep that in mind if you are working with a tripod and manual focus ...

Sharp and great size

Sharp lens, great size, feels great while holding it in the camera. Using it on a Sony A6000. Plenty of light for when you need that. Great price, very happy with purchase.

Answer :

Yes on everything

Question :

Does this work with a sony a7riii?

Yes but the a7riii is a full frame. So it will crop the sensor to adjust to the apsc lens. Your camera would be fine but it will look more like a 45mm.

Answer :

Malfunction

Yes, I’m now using it on a Sony A6300.

Question :

Will this be true 30mm since it is built for an apsc sensor?

Question :

Is this compatible with eye focus on sony a6600?

Answer :

Yes the eye autofocus lies inside the camera body not the lens.

Question :

Compatible with canon 70d?

Answer :

The lens should fit only if you order it for the 70D. Ask the salesperson if they have a Sigma 30mm you want and try on with your camera. Make sure the AF works and all the attachments as well. Good luck, I hope this answer helps.
