... if you need to hear a frog fart in a hurricane.

Used it for the first time on a windy day. We've been having too much wind bleed through the deadcat on our shotgun mikes. We broke out the brand new blimp and hooked it all up. The guy running sound used the word "amazing" at least twice.
Would you be able to, in fact, hear a flatulent frog in a hurricane? Probably, let me know how that works out.

Incredible Noise Reduction In A Feather-Light Chassis

I recently got to use this blimp for the first time on an outdoor shoot and - WOW - it completely exceeded expectations. The frame is incredibly lightweight and easy to assemble. The wind and ambient noise reduction were both stellar! The dead cat cover is thick and seems to shed less than cheaper alternatives. A minor benefit but seemed worth mentioning. Definitely a great value for those looking to build out their audio kit!

a high quality shotgun mic holder or just a better (or the best) way to cut out the wind ...

You're only reading this because you desperately want an honest review to see if this RODE Blimp can handle wind exceptionally well. WELL, let me tell you that it is beyond my expectation.

The other day I was shooting a video after a storm had passed and the winds were still hovering around 20mph. Once I put on the 'Dead Wombat' the wind noise was literally cut down to nothing. At first I thought it wasn't working because shotgun mic (NTG2) was picking up the leaves falling and I thought it was wind....it was just that clear!

The most important factor of this package is the DEAD WOMBAT (which is included and thank you RODE for doing that). This is and will be the only thing you have to stop the wind and it works flawlessly. You will need this in any high wind situation.

All in all, if you're looking for a wind muff, a high quality shotgun mic holder or just a better (or the best) way to cut out the wind from your production, I cannot emphasize this next statement enough....BUY THIS.

Perfect solution

This thing is expensive, but dollar for dollar it’s so worth it. I’ve already saved thousands of dollars by not having to reshoot or reschedule shoots on windy days. Product is unmatched.

Quality audio accessory

Wonderful addition to my audio kit. Very effective at reduction of wind noise, & I love being able to hold it by pistol grip.

Wouldn't want to use the Rode NTG3 shotgun mic without this

Loving the Rode Blimp! We're using this with a Rode NTG3 mic in the field for a documentary. It's sturdy, collapsable, and has been working out great for us.

I Can Hear You Now!

Great, lightweight, and durable. I abuse my equipment pretty good and this BLIMPR is no exception. It is tough and literally bounces back from hits, spills, and bangs! It comes with a windshield but I also bought the "deadwombat" cover that fits and works well.

A must for you to have in your outdoor gear

I absolutely love the new design and happy that the wombat came with it. It's perfect for outdoor uses and indoor users that have a lot of wind on set.

Cinebags production bag is a perfect fit.

I believe it would it's quite spacious!

Question :

does this work with a Sennheiser ME66/K6 shotgun mic?

Answer :

I don't own that mic but it looks like it will fit just fine.

Question :

When using the large blimp to cover the rodengt4 mic do you use the foam cover over it also? Or should the blimp alone cover the mic? Thank you in

Answer :

When using the blimp it is better to remove the foam cover from the mic, otherwise you could muffle the sound a bit, and lose some of the high frequencies. If the wind is too strong, you can use the "dead cat" or "dead wombat" accessory on the outside of the blimp.

Question :

What is the max diameter mic that will fit? I'm looking at a mic that is 25mm, whereas I think most shotgun mics are around 19-22mm?

Answer :

The part that holds the mic is very flexible, so that size mic should be no problem.

Question :

Hi, i already own the pistol grip so i just need the blimp and the deadkat. is that what's included? i don't want to accidentally purchase the grip.

Answer :

It includes the whole rig. Pistol grip shock mount and blimp. Solid 5 stars for the price, though!
