This is a really good handle for Arri style camera cages or other accessories that possess a hot shoe style receiver however I would be concerned using it on a still camera hot shoe simply because the handle is way more capable than the hot shoes on most cameras... I would be afraid of ripping the hot shoe right off the camera if too much other weight was attached to the camera body itself. Those camera hot shoes are typically secured by (4) M2 fine thread screws. This handle is not going to be the first thing that fails if there is too much weight attached to the camera and you lift by it-

Hi the handle is applied to camera hot shoe port directly and could be mounted in two directions, it may affect the use of the viewfinder if you mount towards the lens direction.
