Just Buy This One! Superior in every way.

I have purchased several cheaper umbrellas previously and I am seriously impressed with the quality of the Westcott vs. the others. Everything about the Westcott is better. Better material, better ribs and center pole. The locking mechanism is made of better chromed metal and is easier to open and close. Heck, even the plastic sleeve which it came in and which I use to store it is heavier plastic with a snap closure that actually works! I am looking forward to upgrading all of my umbrellas to Westcott umbrellas. The few dollars more for a Wescott is definitely worth it!

Westcott Quality

It’s Westcott. The best is my opinion, mainly due to the face that I am always able to get good color balance with Westcott products. I was surprised that this umbrella has fiberglass spokes instead of metal. Good durability. These umbrellas work great as a compact portable solution. I like to use them as a shoot through for softer light.

High Quality!

This umbrella works perfectly for diffusing the flash! The size is big enough to do portraits or a large photoshoot. The materials seem to be very high quality and it's really durable. This should last for years if you take care of it. I definitely recommend this for any level of photographer!

Well made nice size umbrella for studio work

Nice umbrella for attaching to studio lights, folds quickly and easily for location work. I feel it provides nicer light than softboxes. Happy with the price and the purchase!

Incredible value

I mainly use two of these coupled with FJ400 for real estate work and they have been invaluable in that application.
No complaints whatsoever- top shelf shoot through umbrella.

Sturdy and Gets Job Done!

Been using for a couple months now. Very stable and feels more "heavy-duty" than other umbrellas.

Question & Answer

Question :

Does it collapse for storage?

Answer :

yes, works just like a standard umbrella

Question :

What are the dimensions when fully collapsed?

Answer :

When collapsed, the umbrella is 28.5" long.

Question :

Does she rod/shaft of the umbrella adjust in length?

Answer :

No it does not

Question :

Can this umbrella be used as a shoot-thru?

Answer :

Yes, this is what it is for. You CAN use it as a bounce, but the light is more of a radiation from the glow of the satin, not a true reflector umbrella.

Question :

I used the umbrella as a shoot through and it crated this harsh shadow on the left side of my picture. Can someone explain why that is?

Answer :

Most likely the edge of the umbrella is creating this shadow. Try moving the light source in more on the umbrella shaft.

Question :

Would this be a good choice for shading/diffusing direct sunlight when shooting ground-level plants?

Answer :

Yes, although its primary intention is do modify flash/continuous lighting, it can also be used outdoor in available light to diffuse bright sunlight. This one would be good for macro/small plants. If you are looking to diffuse a larger area, conside the 7' Diffusion Umbrella -
