How many joules do you need?

How many joules do you need? Heres the breakdown.

1,000- Lamps, blenders, digital clocks, small electronics.

2,000- Power tools, printers, routers, copiers, office equipment.

3,000 and above- Home theater components, soundbars, computers, subwoofers, synthesizers, DJ equipment and anything that stores important information.

I'm a music producer and audio engineer, I've used countless of surge protectors in my career and this is possibly one of the best I've come across.

It's exceptionally well built and feels like a solid piece of equipment, the green LED indicators allow you to verify that everything is both grounded and protected. Something that's extremely important yet most people overlook without knowing the importance of Joules and proper grounding. They buy a power strip with an on/off switch, connect their TVs, soundbars, computers etc etc and call it a day. Not good.

4,500 joules is more than enough to protect almost anything found in a home (except a space heater, never plug one into any power strip). I looked for other surge protectors with as many joules as this one for the same price and could not find a single one. Even the ones that cost twice as much only went up to 2,100 joules.

Amazon, I tip my hat to you. You guys are making great products.

It Cleans Up My Clutter Of Cords

Very well built and plenty of room for all my plugs to fit up against each other. I also found out how to mount it to a wall. Use three 3m double sided pads (the black ones) sold on Amazon. The pads anchors it tightly against the wall. The green leds on the power strip looks pretty cool also. Plus I have a indicator if the power strip got turned off or if it loss power.
Came back and bought another one...I just love that green light.

Simply Works!

First, pardon my sloppy cord management. I wanted people to see it in the wild, so to speak.

TheAmazonBasics 8-Outlet Surge Protector, 4,500 Joule, 6-Foot Cord does its job well. This not a fancy surge protector. It's straight forward, but it does offer good protection with 4,500 Joules. The ground light is bright, as you can see, and gives peace of mind. You know your expensive tech is protected by a glance.

If you need a surge protector that offers more space for the over sized power adapters, AmazonBasics has those too. If that's not an issue for you, I wouldn't hesitate on buying this.

Great product. The only surge protector I need.

This surge protector is very nice there are eight plugs three plugs for bigger boxes for example cordless phone or a cell phone charger and then there are five plugs for regular cords. It streamlines all the cords so that you don't have a big mess in your floor. I love it I think it's well worth the price.

Let's hope it works

If you've ever had to deal with a nearby lightning strike you can likely feel my pain. I had one less than 100 yards from the house. The house was fine, but the contents suffered the consequences. I lost my stereo, my microwave and numerous other electronics. Everything has since been replaced, but I purchased this and other surge protectors to hopefully prevent a second experience. I feel I am safe except for maybe a direct strike. The days of a power surge coming through a phone line are long gone and I have no cable, but there is always the possibility of a direct strike to my Starlink dish and the power surge entering through that cable. Hey, there's only so much you can do, but I feel that if 4,500 joules can't provide the protection I need than there is little that can. If a strike hits the house then the survival of my electronics would likely be the least of my worries. The unit seems sturdy and durable. Let's hope it can do the job it's advertised to do.

Regarding the bright green light so many complain about. This is not just a decorative addition to the unit. It indicates that surge protection is active and functional. Where are people placing these surge protectors that this light is so distracting? Personally, I like having these night lights all around the house making it easier to navigate in the dark. I also have emergency flashlights that stay plugged into outlets to remain charged and meanwhile act as night lights and come on bright should the power fail. What are the odds that someone complaining about the light from the surge protectors has dedicated night lights plugged in around the house? No offense, but know what your are buying. If you don't, then don't complain about it.

So amazing we bought two!

I absolutely love this power strip!!! I left almost same review for bigger version we originally bought. I'm hoping my explanation will make sense because it's hard to describe. We have a few power strips around the house that I got either from work or bought some cheap ones thinking they were all the same. One strip was getting used to its limit and the other strip we had an issue where it had a huge fat power cord that kept coming lose and turning off the monitor. Read reviews and decided to try this one and I am so glad we did. Somehow there is something inside the outlets that hold on tight and super snug to anything you plug in. We no longer have the issue where the fat cords keep bopping over or coming lose. They fit like a glove here and do not move at all. I like the little light around this power strip though it is a waste because its hidden next to a stand so can't really see it. Another bonus is that one side of this strip gives you extra space for the fat cords. We have the bigger one to use in another room and it has all the same features. Super tight fit and hold on any cord you plug in. Maybe this is something that those who invest $100+ on power strips already own but this is first time i have seen this and i love it!

This product is a sturdy and economical choice, yes I taped over the green LEDs to soften the glow.

Pros: 1) The 3-prong plug fits snugly into the wall outlet (earlier this year I reviewed a different AmazonBasics surge protector that fit incredibly loose in the wall outlet and was prone to falling out if bumped ever so slightly, hence why I cite this as a pro). 2) For my needs (powering and protecting a basement home media center with a TV, TiVo box, network switch, and perhaps someday a game console) this has a decent amount of surge protection and it lets you know (via one of the green lights) when it's exhausted its protection capacity. 3) The spacing of the outlets works for what I need it for. I see some people have complained about the spacing of the outlets. In my case I do not (yet) need to use every outlet and likely won't ever need to. 4) It's a nondescript form factor and color that I can hide easily behind the TV stand (it can be wall mounted, though I don't plan to wall mount it).

Cons: As many have noted, the green LEDs build into this (one to signify that it is properly grounded, the other to signify that surge protection is functioning correctly) are very bright, especially so in a dark room. Because I'm using this under/behind a TV stand in a room we use for evening recreation, I knew this would be a problem before I bought it, and confirmed so by seeing the green hue it cast under the TV stand and up the wall. This is a minor annoyance. I have some black electrical tape in my toolkit and it took no more than 5 minutes to cut several strips and apply them such that it blocked most of the green light. I chose to leave a small bit of the light visible on each of the two lights so that I can visually determine if the surge protection is still working and that the device is grounded. I am not going to downrate the product because of the brightness of the LEDs. This is not the first product I've had to apply electrical tape to to address brightness -- I've taped over LEDs on humidifiers, air purifiers, and yes, other power strip / surge protectors. But if you expect the brightness will be a problem for you and you really don't want to fuss with putting some tape over the lights, then you should avoid this product.

Great but buy some electrical tape to cover the green alien light.

I have bought 5 these surge protectors. They are the best bang for the buck out there. 4500 joules to protect sensitive electronics from a surge. They are a little tight for plugs fitting next to each other in the strip and I despise the bright green alien glow under my tv cabinet. It’s as if it’s an alien invasion in progress from under my tv. Really Stupid! I ended up covering the brilliant glow with multiple wraps of black electrical tape to tone it down some. Whos idea was it that a surge protector would be so bright as to light up a whole room from under a tv cabinet and how much in useless power wasted each year?!? To be a perfect product, make the outlets a little further apart and use a small but effective led instead of a 150 watt bright green power sucking floodlight. I like the concept and cost but it must be made in China by underpaid Chinese alien hybrids bent on overtaking the earth in green light. It really does have that look and feel of an off shore, off worldly product.
Update 6 /2020 bought 3 more of these power strips for my 5th wheel trailer. Apart from going up from 14 dollars on my first purchase and now 6 months later they are up to over 17$ they are the same. even though my trailer has an electrical management system which protects my trailer from surges, I wanted more protections. I bought these to protect both TVs, DVD players, and sound systems but my residential fridge and microwave and my drawer dishwasher. These make it easy to just unplug, insert the power strip, and plug it in and they don’t show. I store my 5er in the back yard always plugged in to keep my batteries charged, when I pull it I’m often in campgrounds all over the west and into Canada and these campgrounds have had power spikes, brownouts, lightning strikes and even miswired pedestals and all of these conditions cause damage to your sensitive electronics. Now I use 8 of these strips to help protect my electronics at my sticks and brick house as well as in my trailer even though both have surge protectors built in to offer even more protection. When in grad school, I lived outside Boston and through several electrical storms and twice I had to replace my tvs, and several appliances due to lightening strikes nearby. Never again. Thanks Amazon.

Great for a large entertainment center.

If you're looking for a surge protector to plug in various electronics such as a TV, A/V receiver, gaming console etc, then this is the product for you. It does the job. I've lost power a few times since using it and so far my TV and other electronics are just fine. I see a lot of people are complaining about the green LED light but honestly it's not that bad. If anything I think of it as a dim night light haha. However if the light does irritate you then you can tuck under your tv stand like I did and the light is barely visible now. For people who are not able to do that for other reasons, then covering it up with black electrical tape should do the job. Overall great surge protector for the money especially for those who want 8 outlets instead of the traditional 6 outlet ones you often see.

Great product! Great price! Hope it works, in the case of a surge!!! ;)

I have found that the Amazon Basics 8-Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector (4,500 Joule, 6-Foot Cord) works exactly as described and expected, EXCEPT for the actual surge protection. I hope to never have to find out if it ACTUALLY protects from a surge, but if I do have a surge incident, I HOPE THIS THING ACTUALLY WORKS!!!! I've seen where other reviewers were complaining of the BRIGHT green indicator light, but this does not bother me, not even in the least! I actually like that the lights are bright enough for me to see that the surge protector is indicating that it, in fact, is working properly! Great price! Seems to be of good quality! So far, I am very happy with this purchase and product! AGAIN, let's just hope that it works properly, when actually needed!!!

All the outlets are protected.

Question :

Is axtra 8-outlet power strip surge protector better than this?

Hi. Amazon Basic 8 outlet surge protector provide 4500J of surge protection which is perfect for expensive equipment. If you are looking for metal casing surge protector with cord management, you may also refer to another Amazon product B082Q22ZJ7.

Question :

What is the difference between this power strip compares to axtra 8-outlet power strip?

Answer :

Hi.
As I knew AXTRA power strip has USB charging port, Amazon Basics 8-Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector doesn’t have USB charging ports.
Amazon Basics 8-Outlet Surge Protector offers 4500 Joules of protection which is higher than a lot of surge protectors offered in the market. It provides 3 widely spaced outlets for larger adapters, and this surge protector is UL certified.

Question :

How this surge protector notify me when I´m out of protection? In this case, will this still working or not?

Yes It can. I have mine mounted with the cable coming out from the bottomwJust note the LEDs will be bright unless the power strip is hidden well or taped over.

Question :

Can this surge protector be placed on a carpeted floor with no risk of fire?

Answer :

While there is no such thing as "no risk", this surge protector is well designed to minimize the risk of fire from lightning strikes that cause massive surges within the device. It has ceramic-encased MOVs (the Metal Oxide Varistors that soak up the lightning-induced surges which could overheat them), and this helps to contain a melt-down that could cause a fire. As far as I can tell, this surge protector is as well-protected from fire risk as any I know of.

Question :

What are the green lines circling three of the outlets meant to indicate?

Answer :

According to the manual the lights on either side indicate different functions. One on the side for 2 prong plugs says "Protected" and if the light on that side goes out the surge protection is not functioning. The one on the other side says "Grounded". But it does not say anywhere in the booklet does it say why the 3 grounded outlets are outlined in green. Sorry the answer is a non-answer. I am curious now!

Question :

Does this product have any $ protection?

Answer :

None mentioned on the box or paperwork.
