Review

A simple USB-C car charger that can do (2) devices with 18w PD Charging.
Verified Purchase
<<8/13/19 I have had this unit for a week or so and will update again when I have had more runtime. >>

For my initial experiences, this is a pretty good standard USB-C phone charger for your car or other 12v location.
It delivers around 18w per port (max.) to (2) devices like it says, and looks good doing it.
I haven’t noticed any LED at night yet and for me that is a plus.
While the finish is nice looking - I would have preferred more use of matte black as the face with the two ports is shiny and fingerprint magnet.

The only ‘complaint’ I would have at this time is I wish it had 36w capability per port, with current balancing. BUT, I knew it didn’t going in so I am not factoring it into the review - but wanted to be sure readers were aware its 18w and that’s it.

I will update with some more photos and test results shortly.

Thanks for reading my review I hope you found it helpful.
If you have any suggestions to make it more so, please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

THE FIRST dual USB-C PD Car Charger to market!
Verified Purchase
As the title says, this is the first dual USB-C 18w PD car charger I have seen on the market, from a reputable brand at least. In my so far short experience with it, I have no complaints, and it works great. Charges fast enough for me. The small LED light is very classy and nice looking at night, not overly bright at all. However, it cannot be seen at all during the day. Some people may not like this.

I do have 2 complaints though: 1st would be fit and finish. Anker sells other car chargers with a better fit and finish, so I know they can do better. It's especially noticable on the outside rim. This model has a very smooth booting matte black plastic finish, while other Anker models have had solid feeling textured plastic on the rim. However, the rim being the place you would grip to pull it out of the socket, you may not notice this much, or ever. The 2nd and more important complaint is the fact that charger cannot juice at a rate of 36w out of 1 port, when only 1 device is connected. But I guess their saving that feature for a 2nd model. Which I will most likely buy.

Over all, another fantastic, innovative product from Anker. Absolutely worth the price. Kudos.

The real deal. Charges my iPhone XS Max at 18.085 Watts

This thing is the real deal. Charges my iPhone XS Max at a constant 18 Watts.

18W is (currently) the fastest you can charge the iPhone XS Max as allowed by its internal firmware.

If Superman need a quick charge

Let me tell you something... I've bought 3 of these, all newer gen than the last and they never disappoint. I have the Pixel 3XL, iPhone Max, and a USB C Laptop. They charge so quick and my friends are surprised at the percentage when they leave after juicing up. I endorse this product. Anker has a gem!

It's C to C
Verified Purchase
Did not realize it was C to C when I bought it because I had initially picked another charger and then Amazon said there was a newer version but failed to mention that the newer version was C to C vs the regular A to C. Luckily I had a C to C cable in a go bag. works well just sucks I'll have to buy some new cables for other phones.

Very fast charging

So far loving the charging. I use it in my work truck. Within less than a half hour time span my phone went from 45% charge to 89%. So definitely one of the fastest chargers I've used yet. It's a solid build so definitely looks like it'll last a while.

Super fast mobile charging for late-model iPhones and iPads! Requires new cables, but worth it.

If you own an iPhone 8 or newer or the latest iPad Mini (2019), consider getting this charger for the car. Both of those devices can take advantage of a high speed USB-C charger. This is significantly faster than the charger you likely have in your car now, which uses lightning cables. We have two young boys who have their own iPad Minis, and we frequently take car rides that last between 30 min and 1 hour. With a USB-C charger, you can recharge the device to a significant amount during that short time period. I haven't measured it, but I believe you can charge the device more than 50% in an hour.

Before using this quick charger, the old-fashioned lightning charger in our car was only used for maintenance charging for anything other than a long car ride. That is, we'd plug the iPads in so they wouldn't lose a significant amount of charge as we tooled around town. Now with the USB-C charger, when we plug them in, they can charge a significant amount, even if the boys are using them at the same time.

There is one downside: you have to buy new USB-C to lightning cables for this charger, at an additional cost. Your old lightning to lightning cables won't work. We went with two of the JSAUX cables (https://www.amazon.com/JSAUX-Lightning-Certified-Charging-Compatible/dp/B07RDPNWRR) and they have worked well for us. Like the iPads for the boys, this upgrade is a luxury, but is well worth the small investment for your peace of mind.

Love it

It can charge all of my devices except my laptop. Such a convenience!
It does have to sit on my cars outlet just so but im not sure if that's my outlet or the chargers fault. Though Ive never had another Anker charger be so finicky.

Charges fast!

I have two iPad Pro’s and an iPhone X and this is the ticket for keeping everything charged. I can charge my iPhone to 50% in 30 minutes and both my 1st gen iPad Pro 12.9 and my iPad Pro 11 inch charge fast.

USB-C all the way!
Verified Purchase
All my devices are USB-C so I decided to get this one and get purely C to C cables to go along with.

Works perfect, charges devices quickly in my car. My passengers might hate me if they need to charge their iPhones though, but that ain't my problem. Eventually all cables will become this standard, so might as well start building my C collection of cables now.

This is not related to the review but I just wanted to mention how much I hate cables that go from one standard to another. I like having the cable be the same on both ends, and use an adapter to adapt. Modularity is king.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:If I use this with a MagSafe charger will it charge just as fast
Answer:MagSafe inefficiencies are higher than a direct connection so it will charge slower, charge port specs being equal. I will try to give a bit more detail to round it out.
Apple fast charging requires a PD(Power Delivery) compliant USB C port. The ports on this charger support 9 volts at 2 amps, which equals 18 watts. They add the two ports to get the 36 watt marketing bulletin. If you connect your phone to this charger with a USB C to Lightning cable, the port will provide a max of 18 watts, adjusted by the phone.

Magsafe requires a USB C port capable of 20w to provide 15 watts because it needs to make up for the inefficiencies of wireless charging. Apple list requiring 9V/2.03A(18.27W) to provide a max 12 watts of charging using MagSafe with an iPhone 12 mini. It list 9V/2.22A(19.98W) or 9V/2.56A(23.04W) and higher to provide a max 15 watts of charging using MagSafe for all other iPhone 12 models. Why it list two specs and says or more I don't quite understand but the official Apple 20W wall charger recommended for MagSafe specs its port at 9V/2.22A(19.98W).

Any lightning accessories connected(such as headphones) drops the max charging wattage to 7.5 watts when using MagSafe. The charge rate is also adjusted depending on state of charge and temperature by the phone; slowly ramps up, starts ramping down and/or pausing when it hits 80%, and slows if the phone is hot. The iPhone controls how fast it charges, the power specs of the port you connect it to determines how much power the phone has to work with. MagSafe wants a Lexus, using this charger is like handing your iPhone a Toyota, still respectable but not quite what it wanted.

Question:Will this work for my samsung note 10 plus? does it come with the cable or do i need to buy it seperately, if so what cable is it?
Answer:It works with note 10 plus but it will not quick charge the note 10. However it woll quick charge apple prducts.

Question:Does this work with Samsung A50?
Answer:I don't know. I would check the specs on that phone to see what the highest charge it can take. Then check to see how much the Anker charger puts out. Then you will have your answer. It is a good charger for my Samsung.

Question:Does this work with older usb micro phones?
Answer:I had to buy an amazon basics brand usb-c to micro usb to use this with older devices

My guess is this charger would provide a max of around 11 watts for the phone to work with when used with MagSafe vs 18 watts when connected directly after looking at a video titled "Apple MagSafe - Which Charger is Fastest - Speed Test" on YouTube by user zollotech but I'm not sure. Anker has a more powerful 48W version of this charger that list 9V/3A(27W) support on one of its ports. If you want the max MagSafe charge rate of 15W for non mini iPhone 12's, that one will provably do it.
