Latest Mac Driver

Like the other reviewer said, if you are using Mac 10.13.x High Sierra, you will need to download the latest driver. Mine worked without downloading, but even though I had Gigabit, it didn't go past 230mbps. After downloading the latest driver, and applying it in network setting (the installer gives you instruction), I was able to get the full Gigabit speed, with the lights on the adapter working. I googled for "realtek usb c ethernet driver mac" and downloaded the "MAC OS 10.6 to 10.13" version 1.0.17 driver from the realtek site. In the realtek site, the page hierarchy is "HOME > Downloads > Communications Network ICs > Network Interface Controllers > 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet > USB 3.0 > Software"

Anker is the brand you want. Mac Users will need a driver!

I own a 2018 MacBook Pro. In addition, I have an incredible Fios Internet plan that brings 1GB wired speed into my home.

I can sit and stream my Internet over WiFi, but I only get about half the speed I am paying for. So, what I need is a way to connect my ethernet connection directly into my MacBook Pro.

I was a bit at odds about selecting this Anker Ethernet adapter. The choice of the adapter was easy...it's an Anker. They are one of the most trusted electronic companies in existence. I will take an Anker product over just about any other brand.

The problem? All these Amazon reviews said that an additional driver would be needed to drive this adapter to its potential. I wasn't too happy about that and I almost went with another brand because I just didn't want to have to locate and install a driver.

Brand won over inconvenience.

So, when I got the adapter I put it to the test. Would it deliver 1GB speeds without the driver? Well, the initial test showed that I was only getting 360 Mbps directly connected to my ethernet network. I then downloaded and installed the driver. On the next test, I was over 920 Mbps. So, yes, the driver is absolutely needed.

Finding the driver was not difficult. Just do an Internet search for Realtek USB Ethernet Driver/Installer. I would have provided a link but sometimes they are removed from reviews.

The build quality of this adapter is exceptional. It has a USB-C plug so it plugs right into current MacBook Pro models and any device with such an input connection.

As someone who has been a veteran purchaser of many Anker products, I cannot recommend this particular product (or any of their products) more highly. Sometimes it's worth paying more for a name that you trust over saving money on a generic brand.

Works instantly on Android (8.0)!!

Unbelievably, I plugged this device into my Google Pixel 2 XL (Android 8.0) and started trying to figure out how to enable it, configure it and all that and I didn't see anything pop up. After a couple seconds pause, trying to figure out where to start and I realized that it's already working, right out of the box! All I did was plug it in and disable my other data connections and it was working flawlessly!

I'm stoked; this is going to allow me to use my travel router in hotels by authenticating over ethernet, using my phone, and cloning this device's MAC address on the travel router.

Works with Chromebooks. Excellent performance.

I never thought I would need one of these. Last weekend, I was visiting a relative who was having router and WiFi issues. I needed to connect to some hardware directly, but his laptop was dead (literally) and my Google Pixelbook only has WiFi. Since I have to go back, I ordered this Anker adapter.

And the verdict is...it works, perfectly. I never doubt the quality of Anker products, as I've used their portable batteries, cables and chargers over the years with great success.

This USB-to-Ethernet adapter is no exception. I plugged it in, attached the network ethernet cable in my office and I was instantly connected. Adding anything else on this is difficult, because it's a simple thing to use, and you'll know instantly if it does the job. The documentation says it works with all systems (Windows, Mac, Linux), so if you need something portable and reliable, you can't beat this.

And now you know it also works with ChromeOS on Chromebooks.

Great performing gigabit network adapter!

I came from a Startech usb 3.0 network adapter that couldn't seem to get past 100mbps. In fact I had gotten better speeds on 5 GHz wifi than the Startech adapter. I decided to get this usb 3.1 gigabit nic, its reasonably priced and stylish. It has a blinking blue dot led, a solid green and red led on it, and its very compact and a sleek gunmetal grey color. Design wise with the vivid pinpoint led's and aluminum feeling body, its great.

Now lets go to performance. I have it connected with a Cat 5e cable to a Unifi USW Flex mini switch in my office which is uplinked to a Unifi 8-150 switch in my utility room where my internet and routing hardware comes in. I setup an iperf3 test between my laptop and desktop and I was able to achieve a maximum of 980mbps in both directions. Again with my old adapter, same Ethernet cabling and switch setup, just a different USB port type, I could barely get over 100 mbps.

This was a great improvement as now with the spacedesk program I'm using to extend my main computer to my laptop (using it as an additional monitor), I now have the bandwidth to run the laptop in its native 4k over the network vs 1080p. Plus moving windows around to it and on its screen are much more smooth and not as delayed like when using wifi or the old adapter.

I have to say the iperf tests between my pfsense box and the laptop using this adapter, and between the laptop and desktop were showing true 1 gbps throughput both up and down, as to be expected. There were no drivers to install either. It was simply plug and play in Windows 10 20H2. This is a GREAT little USB 3.1 nic that meets all performance (and exceeds design) expectations.

Top quality product. Another winner from Anker.

Very elegant looking, lightweight adapter with gorgeous tiny lights (although nowhere in the booklet it describes what they mean, but you will see solid red and green and blinking blue when everything works perfectly). Of course the most important thing is this adapter works perfectly. I am using it with Macbook Pro and its flawless. Testing on an empty network (Ubiquity switch) with my fileserver it is pretty consistent at 114 MB/s with 117 MB/s peak when talking to my fileserver. Pretty good performance.

It works with (my) Chromebook

My Chromebook is an inexpensive Acer Chromebook Spin 11. After the Anker was delivered and I made sure it was not contaminated with Covid-19, I plugged (only) the male plug of the Anker into one of the laptop's USB-C ports, then the laptop immediately recognized the Ethernet connection, but warned "no network," and I think the red and green lights of the Anker came on. Next, I connected the (live, from a DSL router) Ethernet cable into the female port of the Anker, the Anker's blue light began flashing, the laptop indicated the network was detected, and the laptop was online (almost as if by magic, without any external software or any other hand-holding!). Now, my online Ethernet connection is much more responsive than was the wi-fi connection.

I'm using four of them.

I have four of these. They work well. They're entirely plug-and-play, and I've had no problems with them to date, including under heavy throughput in an environment where losing a packet would be catastrophic (streaming multichannel video).

When I can, I prefer the Apple Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter, because that has lower CPU overhead than USB-C, but it lacks practicality, both for cost reasons and because the need for chaining that adapter to a second adapter on recent Macs makes it unwieldy. (Why Apple still hasn't updated their Thunderbolt FireWire or Ethernet adapters to the new connector is beyond my comprehension.)

After running into absolutely disastrous failures with the Ethernet chip in an external GPU enclosure (that suddenly stops sending outbound traffic), I wasn't about to touch anything that didn't have support out-of-the-box in macOS. After a decent amount of research, I concluded that this product was probably one of the better options. Thus far, I have not been disappointed.

Download and install the driver before use!

Download the driver for this item for use! At least for me, this didn’t work until I downloaded the driver. Had to search for the driver which is available on the product website, but not readily accessible on the page for this specific product. Once it was installed, worked great! Product feels very sturdy.

Super fast & reliable. Just make sure to install the drivers as instructed here.

Dell saw fit to deck out my 17" Inspiron bought in December 2017 with all the latest, like AC WiFi, USB 3.1 and C. Yet it only came with built-in 100mb/s wired Ethernet. It gets really annoying when you need to move large files under less than reliable WiFi and see it either fail due to errors or top out at 11 megabytes per second of copy speed when plugged in. 10 gigabyte files which my 2011 Mac moves with ease are a choking hazard on my brand-spanking-new Windows machine.

Anker to the rescue! If you follow the instructions posted here to install the network drivers, it works exactly as promised. I'm seeing exactly 10x the performance that I was getting with the built-in Ethernet. Windows copy shows networks speeds of 110-115 megabytes/sec when copying to and from my Synology NAS. For the price, there's no better performance boost if you want the extra speed and reliability of a wired connection.

Question & Answer

Question :

What do the led colours represent (red, green [constant on] and blue [flashing])?

Question :

i jst purchased a HP Pavillion all n 1 will this work on it?

Answer :

It really depends on the specific model number of hp all in one... At least some of the new ones have USB 3.1 Type C ports. But some (currently for sale) as new do not. If you look at the port list on the one you bought look at the USB ports and see if any of them are flagged as "C". ... keeping it simple, the letter (among other things ) describes the shape of the port. If yours says it has USB C , USB Type C, or similar, then yes. If yours only has USB A, then no. For reference, USB A is the rectangle one that's been around since the 90s. While USB C is maybe 25% smaller and an oval shape and has only started to show up on common things in the last few years

Question :

Will it work with Samsung Note 20 cell phone ?

Answer :

Not sure, i only use them on my macbooks

Question :

So all you do is plug the ethernet into this adapter, then the adapter into the phone, and it automatically starts using the ethernet for internet?

Answer :

I used mine for my computer, not my phone. I don't think it's that easy though, it'll depend on your phone and the ethernet cable you are using, what drivers are required etc. Even plugging directly into the computer you usually have configure the ethernet connection first before it works. I would assume you'd have to do something similar on your phone. Probably better to research that before buying if thats what you plan on doing with it.

Question :

Can i use this with my samsung galaxy note 8? Just to access the network?

Answer :

It works on my Samsung S10 phone.
