Question: | Will this work as a replacement for the short dovetail bar on my celestron 102slt? i want a longer bar to allow better balance with heavy eye pieces |
Answer: | This rail has plenty of play for my Celestron 80wa. Mine is a short-tube with tube rings, converted to use 2" eyepieces. This dovetail compensates heavier payloads well on my scope - floats nice and sturdy almost anywhere I adjust it. Your scope may be a bit heavier/longer but but I doubt it's any more than this plate can handle. I'd be more concerned about adding a lot of weight to your mount and straining those motors.

Question: | What is the maximum spacing distance if I were to use the 2 center slots? |
Answer: | For stability, I try to keep mine as far apart as possible. This will probably be determined by the length of the OTA and ring placement. |

Question: | will it work to adapt the celestron powerseeker 80EQ to a dovetail tripod mount? |
Answer: | I don’t think it would. A Vixen mount is slightly wider than a standard Arcca Swiss mount. I had to modify a gimble mount that is Arcca Swiss to accept a Vixen mount telescope. It would really depend on how far open your mount goes.

Question: | I'd like to piggyback a smaller refractor on another scope's rings. Would this be what I need (plus a new vixen saddle) to mount a second scope? |
Answer: | Very little is the simple answer. I'm presuming there are rings on the smaller refractor. You may need some screws that are metric rather than SAE to fasten to the dovetail to the smaller scope's rings since the screws that come with the dovetail are SAE. Pick them up at home depot. Also, check to assure dew shield on the smaller refractor doesn't hit the primary scope which is doubtful with the vixen saddle on top of the other scope's rings. Another little hint, make sure all the OTA's are aligned. This means polar scope, finder scope, telrad if you use one, primary scope, and your piggyback.

Question: | What is the distance between two adjacent slots? |
Answer: | Not sure if I understand the question entirely. There are 6 slots running lengthwise with three on each side of center. The three slots are 3/8 inch on center from the best measurement I could see. There are two slots running perpendicular at the ends of the plate and they are about 8 1/8 inches apart on center. That's about as good as I can do with the current information.

Question: | Does this bar come with mounting screws? |
Answer: | I don't remember specifically but regardless if it did they were too short for my application. |

Question: | Are the screw slots wider to accept the head of the screw on the back of the plate? The pictures only show the surface that sits against the scope. |
Answer: | The 2 long slots in the middle and the cross slots on each end are machined wider to accommodate 1/4 hex head |
