About this item

  • FireWire cable 800 9-pin connectors are part of a recent improvement to the IEEE-1394 technology, called FireWire 800 (or IEEE-1394b).
  • The improvement to the specification allows transfer of data at up to twice the speed of the original IEEE-1394 standard.
  • The 9-pin connector is a rectangle with square corners. It has 5 pin contacts on one side, and 4 pin contacts on the other.
  • This new connector type can be adapted to the older 4-pin and 6-pin connector. However, when adapted, the maximum transfer rate will be 400 Mbps.
  • This is an important cable if you have DV to Firewire Cable for Digital Camera, SLR, Machine Vision Camera etc

A GREAT BUY

I recently rediscovered my circa-2000 Sony Digital Handycam DCR-PC100 when trying to preview some old family tapes. I then decided to pull those into my Macbook Air iMovie app, but alas, I was missing the cable (4-pin to 9-pin Firewire) necessary to connect to my Mac Thunderbolt adapter. I found this cable on Amazon and ordered it. Plugged it into the camera and AirBook connector (Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt), and I was literally downloading files from my camcorder into iMovie in minutes. What a way to preserve old tape files without having to send them off at $10-$15/tape. A lifesaver!!

Sony Digital 8 to 2010 MacBook Pro

This cord is a MUST if you have a 2010 MacBook Pro with 9 pin fire wire input and a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder that has ilink 4 pin firewire. Saves so much time. It transfers at highest quality from tape and MOST importantly separates into different clips and date stamps them if you use iMovie on Mac. All you do is hit the import button on iMovie and it does the rest for you. Others don't do this. I tried Evgato Video Capture and transfer at VHS quality and transfers whole tape as one big clip. And no date stamp on clips. If you have newer MacBook Pro all you need to do is buy one or two adapters depending on what year of MacBook you have. Adapters are on Amazon. I just happened to keep one of my older MacBook Pro's that is still functional. Hope this helps and saves you the time that it took me to figure this all out.

Works with older DV iLink camcorders to transfer digital video / audio

The cable simply works for my intended purpose. I needed a way to interface with the 4 pin iLink “firewire” connection on my old Sony DV camcorder to a 9 pin cable for transferring old home videos to my 2016 MacBook Pro. The connection: “Bizlander DV Firewire Cable 800 4pin to 9 pin” > “Apple branded 9 pin Firewire to TB2 cable” > “Apple branded TB2 to TB3 cable” > usb-c port of my MacBook. This allows me to capture DV from the camera to the computer using Quicktime or other software. Not an elegant solution but works great.

Excellent cable and does just what it states it does.

I had an old Sony DCR-TRV250 donated from a family member and had some video that I wanted to transfer. I also have an old early 2011 MacBook Pro with a Firewire 800 port (IEEE 1394). The Sony has a Firewire 400 port (IEEE 1394). This cable worked perfectly. I was able to connect to the camera and control the camera from the MacBook Pro using iMovie (Version 10.1.12). What a cost effective way to retrieve the old video.

Cable is well made and will surely outlive my use for it. I'm sure that it will work with other cameras and devices that I have that use the same interface.

Just what I needed to breath life into an old camcorder!

Have an old camcorder, which I needed to move some video off a digital audio cassette, and onto my Mac Mini. Luckily the old Canon supported Firewire transfer. I prefer specialized cables rather than adapters, and this one had the right fittings on both ends for me.

Plugged it in, and worked perfectly.

Will definitely recommend it if it fills your needs!

Great for hooking up old FW gear

Got an ancient digicam that uses tape and this cable was my last / only option for connecting it to my Mac and rescuing old footage.

The good news is that the cable works great. The bad news is that communicating between an OS from 2020 and hardware that predates the year 2000 is troublesome, and the tape itself may have degraded.. oh well.

But top marks to the cable, which was reasonably priced, arrived quickly and works great.

Perfect link from hi-8 camcorder to Firewire!

This cable now allows me to digitize all my family videos from my Sony Hi-8 camera to a late '15 iMac's firewire port so I can control the camera with iMovie !!! No need to buy any software or hardware. just a few bucks for the cable. LOVE IT!!

Thanks!!

It WORKS!!! [This]-[Apple DP]-[Apple USBC]-[MacBook]

I bought this in a series of connector purchases to transfer video from an old JVC iLink camera, to my mac. The answer is, yes it does work on modern Macs with those other two very expensive Apple brand connectors to get you from FireWire to USBC.

At the end of the day the price hurt, but the videos retrieved from the camera made it all better. Now I have video of my kids when they were infants...now 20 years later...🥰😍...preserved for all time.

Well built cable!

Seems like a well built cable, unfortunately does not fit the firewire connector on my Canon Vixia camcorder. :( Not the cables fault though. The Vixia has a more pronounced "C" shape to the firewire port as apposed to the kind of concave "V" shape of this cable. Fits my older Mac Pro perfectly though!

A good value, particularly if one has legacy equipment.

A good value. In use to transfer 8mm video from a 1980’s era Sony Handycam to a late 2012 iMac. This required the additional purchase of an Apple FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter.

Question & Answer

Question :

Cannot get plug on cable to insert into dv in/out jack on sony dcr-trv230 camcorder. shapes appear to match. tips or tricks? plug defect?

Answer :

Your camcorder should have standard IEEE1394 port for 4 pins connection which is the cable offering. however we do have situation from other customers where the IEEE port on the camcorder (other models) is too tight for the 4 pin cable. if you can wiggle it in please try gently otherwise you might have to contact Sony to see if they have their own cable.

Question :

I want to go from an old mac desktop to a new imac. is this the wire that will transfer all files?

Answer :

You might want to check this out ASIN: B01JLNLXSY, if your new and Old imac both have firewire port. you may use the 9 pin to 9 pin firewire. if your new imac does not have a firewire port you will need a thunderbolt to firewire adapter to connect the firewire.

Question :

How do i use this with my mac? i plugged it in and played the video on my recorder, nothing’s happening on my mac?

Answer :

In addition to iMovie (included for free on your Mac), you can also use QuickTime (also included for free on your Mac). If you are just doing a simple import and don't intend to do any further editing, I would choose the latter for simplicity's sake as iMovie might be overwhelming if you're unfamiliar with it.

Question :

Hi!, May I ask where it is made? like what country? thank you.

Answer :

Most likely in China

Question :

Will this cable fit a sony handycam trdcr-trv25? it is a 4 pin firewire but some buyers have noted issues fitting a trv30 model.

Answer :

I don't think so. Sony cables are usually specific to their products.

Question :

Canon zr45 mc => older mac - i can't find editing software that will capture the video. imovie won't install on my mac, it's too old. any suggestions?

Answer :

Best I can recall I loaded my movies onto YouTube and edited using their online software.

Question :

Hey I purchase this to connect on my mac book.. what should i purchse to connect on my mac book?

Answer :

Hi, I have needed two more adapters to connect that cable to my MacBook pro 15, 2017 model. Those are Apple Thunderbolt-FireWire and Thunderbolt 3(USB-C)-Thunderbolt 2.
