Review

Good Modulator. Great support.
Verified Purchase
This modulator did exactly what I needed. It allowed me to inject a streamed Television source onto my QAM CATV cable network. I had a couple of questions that the support team was able to answer. I may upgrade to the 8 channel unit in the future. I can highly recommend both this product and this company.

Best Digital Modulator and customer service
Verified Purchase
Great product but equally as great...A+ Customer service. I purchased a similar modulator from provideoinstruments to compare, it failed miserably. Here's your best proof, Thor takes returns...provideoinstruments doesn't! What does that tell you?

Worked great
Verified Purchase
This worked plug and play right out of the box to modulator a channel. All my digital TVs found it and I had no problems with this device. still going after a few months.

Great product. Function as advertised

Thor HDMI to Coax modulator -Great little gadget, good price
Verified Purchase
I read some online reviews and decided to try the Thor product for the first time. I'm very happy with my decision, Video and Audio quality looks like it's hooked up straight from the Direct TV Receiver, very low latency, easy setup and the most important thing it has is an HDMI loop-out feature, front panel LED indicator lights. I didn’t have to use a computer to set it up, I just used the 3 front buttons to set it to channel 10. Great little gadget, good price, truly recommend it, I will use Thor modulator moving forward I purchased it as a replacement for modulator - PVI mimode vecoax , it had some issue with the squeaky sound, and the unit rebooted randomly, very strange symptoms, they could not help me. Thor is a less expensive and much better product.

Question:How to program atsc channel 20 using front panel buttons and display ?
Answer:it is very easy to change the modulated channels manually on the front panel.
1st: Use the up arrow on the front panel to go to channel 20
2nd: Press the middle button that looks like a box with lines through it to select the menu.
3rd: When you get to the option that says J83b then press up arrow and it will give you the option for ATSC. (the T on ATSC looks like an r)
4th: Press the down arrow to select the ATSC option
Note: the ATSC can be confused for ASR. They look similar but the ASR is for restoring the Petit back to factory specifications.
It is also possible to connect the PC to the modulator and set it all parameters using any browser :

All IP controlled devices like ours have their own IP address and in order to communicate with it, the PC needs to match the device subnet. for Example: our unit static default IP address is 192.168.1.10 and your PC is set to DHCP and IP address is 192.168.0.10, you would need to go and change Your computer nic address to 192.16.1.xx , the xx is between 1-254 but can not ne 10, because it would be repeating IP. This is just the nature of TCP/IP Ethernet.
The easiest way to verify your IP address is to type in windows CMD and type " ipconfig " , the command prompt will show you the computer network information and IP address.
We agree that the IP settings might not be known to all our customers, We made a special step by step document to make it easy, we will also make a video instructional video. Once the device is set to the specific channel and modulation, most likely this is the only time you need to connect it to the device.

Question:does anyone know what the approximate latency is for this unit?
Answer:The lowest latency setting is about 100ms

Question:How to connect this hdmi modulator to the computer or ethernet nework ?

Please note that most settings you can do on the front of the units, change the channel and modulation.
If this is complicated, please contact our technical support, they will be able to help you remotely using Remote software like TeamViewer or anydesk
Please note that you can also change the modulation standard QAM / ATSC and channels through the front panel buttons, LCD displays modulated channel and modulation standard

Question:Will the unit pass thru 4k signal on the hdmi out?
Answer:According to the Thor website - the max input is 1080-60p and max output is 1080-30p. This suggests that this unit does NOT support UltraHD or 4K resolutions.

Question:Will this do passthrough of hdmi 5.1 audio? to preserve dolby digital i see someone else asked but that question was really an or question not yes/no.
Answer:The Petit Modulator supports 2 audio's regardless. When the HDMI source is carrying Dolby 5.1, the chipset will take one stream from the front and one from behind. So, it will pass it but only 2 streams as a stereo audio. When the HDMI source is carrying PCM Audio, the Thor petti modulator can encode Audio as Dolby AC3 or MPEG2 Audio, it is delectable. Question:Will this work to stream something from my computer via hdmi to this box and then coax to the tv?
Answer:Yes, definitely. Just connect the HDMI output from any computer to the HDMI Input on the PETIT and connect the output of the PETIT to the coax with the other end connecting into the CABLE/ANT Coax F-connector Input on your TV. Set the PETIT to any blank channel of your choosing and then RESCAN you TV. That's all there is to it.

Question:I have a dish (wally) receiver, can i use this to extend the hdmi output on the receiver to the other rg6 jacks in my camper?
Answer:Short answer is yes. This unit will take your HDMI source (Dish Rcvr output) and sent it out the coax out jack on what ever channel you select. However, the output is rather high, I would suggest getting a 10 or 20 dB attenuator inline with the coax out from the modulator. The output can be turned down from +30dBmV to +10 dBmV in the on board software. But +10 dBmV is still rather high. Now if you have other signals on your RG6 cable, say from an external antenna you will need to get much more creative. Too complicated to explain here. But if mixing the output of the modulator with another antenna/cable source the signals need to be approximately the same level (with in 5 dBmV worked for me). or your TV won't find all of your channels when you scan.

Question:I have wow digital cable. do not need a box. will this devices allow nvr/dvr security cameras to my tv through the coax?
Answer:If your cable TV provider, WOW, does not use any STB box by each TV, it means that it is distributing CLEAR unencrypted QAM cable.
In this case, you can use our Digital HDMI Modulator RF H-HDMI-RF PETIT to create your own channel and add it to your cable lineup.
You would need to generate a channel that is unused by this cable TV provider, you could find out what channels they are using by connecting the coax line to an RF spectrum analyzer, however, if you do not own one, you can call them and find out; or you can just try different channels on the box until one work (generally in the higher frequencies). Our device can generate a video on over 150 different channels, you will be able to find an empty one because they do not use all of the RF spectrum.
This way you can modulate any HDMI source including your nvr/DVR security cameras on your own in house channel now. Please only check if this DVR outputs any of these video resolutions, 720p, 1080i, 1080p 59.94 or 60Hz.
I hope this helps, if not, please give us a call, M-F 8-5 PST and I will try to explain it differently 1-800-521-8467 Ext 2 - Thor Support

Question:So should I assume it will not work with SD (480p)?
Answer:It will work. However you will be spending way more than really needed for SD. There are a lot of RF modulators for SD at very affordable prices. Use this one only if you need HD.

Question:how do you eliminate the delay on the petit between encoding time on the hdmi v loopout?
Answer:The delay in HDMI modulator is very low, but is impossible to eliminate completely because HDMI loop is not proceed, In order to output this signal as a QAM or ATSC CATV RF the uncompressed incoming HDMI input ( 1.5Gbps data rate) need to be first encoded in MPEG2 Video and AC3 audio, and this process takes about 300-500ms. in addition the Tuner need some time to decode the encoded steam. If you need to have the same video timing on all TV's, do not use HDMI output at all, connect all your TV's to the coaxial network as well, this way all of them will display the video at the same time
