Stellar piece of kit

I had a hard time deciding between the iFOOTAGE Cobra 2 and the Really Right Stuff MC-34, and ultimately decided on the Cobra 2 because of:

* Very positive reviews online
* included pieces (hi-hat, tool, great bag)
* price
* height

I’ve had the opportunity to run it through several environments where I needed a monopod, and I’ve found it to be exception (if not a tad heavy on the arms after extended use).

I equipped it with a RRS BH-30, Canon 90D, Canon 70-200 & Sigma 150-600 for my testing. I did a mix of urban and suburban wildlife shots. I also tried out using the BH-30 as a makeshift gimbal head for following birds.

Just a really stellar piece of kit, and at a very good price point.

My only cons might be that it will start feeling very heavy after a few hours of use, and that it doesn’t fit very well with a backpack (I ended up looking like Boba Fett).

I feel like that could be solved by just using the included bag while in between locations.

I would recommend the Cobra 2 to anyone looking for a monopod.

This is my favorite Christmas present and I couldn't be happier!

I decided I wanted a monopod. My kids are in a lot of sports and I take lots of pics/videos. Tripods are unwieldy and unpractical for this purpose. When I started looking I didn't even know there are monopods with feet...this was a game changer for me. I asked for gift cards for Christmas so I could research and get the one I wanted. A week and a half later I made my decision!

So this monopod is way overkill for my purposes. After watching many videos, I was convinced that the features and build quality were what I wanted. I was not disappointed. Every part of this is well designed and manufactured. There is very little I would change.

The feet are tight and solid when deployed. They click softly so you know when they are in place. They are easily moved in and out of position. They have rubber on the bottom and top (to protect the monopod when raised). The locks are tight and grip the shafts of the monopod perfectly. The sliding action of the telescope is smooth, light, and fast. The quick release plate is rock solid when installed at the top of the monopod or on the feet as a mini tripod. This entire unit from to to bottom reaks of quality and over-engineering.

The function of the ball head concerned me when I'd read about it. It does not have a fixed vertical position. You tighten the locking nut, but you can still move the monopod with corresponding pressure depending on how tight you locked it. I see now that this allows you to move freely for shots or environmental challenges, while still keeping the monopod locked in place. It's really a nice feature I wouldn't have understood without playing with it since I'm not a pro.

As far as stability, it's a monopod with feet. I'm not sure what I expected, but if I had any expectations they were surpassed. I wanted to be able to set this up in bleachers without taking up too much space. I also wanted to be able to take my hands off the equipment and hopefully just let it sit there in front of me. While I haven't used at a location yet, I'm certain this will be perfect. With a Full size DSLR, fluid head, phone attachment, and phone this setup sat up proud and had no wiggle when untouched. I wouldn't leave it alone in a busy room, but for picture stability and occasional hands free use, I couldn't be happier.

I did go budget on the Fluid Head. I considered getting the IFootage head so it would match and for quality. I decided at the last minute to go with a cheaper, but well reviewed Fluid Head. It functions wonderfully and I'm glad I spent the extra money on the monopod and went a little cheaper on the head. The entire setup weighs 4.95lbs and when all buttoned up will be very comfortable walking around sports facilities or day hiking.

This review is for the normal person who may want to spend a little more on a monopod. This is not cheap, but I definitely think you're getting wonderful equipment for the price.

If I had a complaint it would be with the quick release plate. The complaint is about compatibility, cost, and availability. It works perfectly. However it is integral to the device. If you lose it, you will not be able to use the monopod. I have searched and as of right now it is out of stock everywhere and if it was available, it costs $45. This is ridiculous in the big picture. It does have some cool features, but it's basically a single piece of aluminum with a fancy bolt in the middle. It's hardly worth 25% of the original price. Also, Ifootage has another similar quick release system, but this Cobra 2 QR is not compatible in either direction. With as modular as everything else they sell is, I can't figure for the life of me why they went a different route with the monopod quick release. Their ballgame I guess, but it seems like they're taking some advantage here.

Hope this helps someone. I searched for days and was paralyzed with information. I realize that's ridiculous, but it happened. I am thrilled with the product though and glad I pulled the trigger on this. Best Christmas present of 2021!

*Edit... I do have one complaint that I will eventually deduct a star for. I have been trying to reach ifootage for several days now. They have little contact information on their site. I found a customer service email with my warranty information. I have emailed them twice and I contacted them through Amazon. As of yet they have not gotten back with me. Fortunately their products are made well, so I don't believe warranty use is going to be a huge issue. They don't seem to care too much about talking to customers.

One of the best things I've bought

Aside from purchasing Izotope RX elements on sale for $10 - this monopod is probably the next best piece of kit out of over $10k of stuff. If I had to start over, I'd have purchased a suuuuper cheap fluid head tripod just to have it available, and this monopod for most the actual work I end up doing. Much later I'd purchase a good fluid head tripod obviously, but for soooo many needs this monopod has been absolutely amazing. It's easy to adjust, light, and sooo versatile!

If I had to point out one favorite thing about it, it's that if I'm traveling I can take it apart and fit it into my Pelican 1510 that I use as carry on (has to be diagonal and up-down as well, but it fits! 180cm version!) and now I have not only a great monopod, but if I want then I can also use it as a super stable tabletop tripod as well as a boom for a microphone - a mic handle can be screwed in to the end of the pole (the small end to boot, so it doesn't look and balance bizarre!), a cable taped to the pole and you're good to go for so many situations.

Best Monopod on the Market

I stumbled across a guy on YouTube who attended a show in Vegas where iFOOTAGE was showcasing their products. After watching his extensive review I searched for more reviews which ultimately convinced me not only to purchase this monopod but also the K5 fluid head. I received the monopod a few days ago and I'm completely in love with it. The overall design is spectacular and compliments my Nikon D500 in ways I hadn't imagined. The build quality exceeds expectations. It's quick release attachments make a breeze to adjust from one setup to another. The carbon fiber lightweight construction is amazing. Expanding and collapsing is quick and easy. It's worth every penny. I'm looking forward to receiving the K5 and writing a review about that. I'm also going to purchase their tripod next month. It's rare not to be able to find a flaw or negative comment about something until now.

Sirui mono pod killer best mono pod so far

much better than my sirui , this monopod so easy to take of the head with quick release, very tall it best. also i use it shooting a wedding with sirui it hard to keep it level but with ifootage has better feet and i can balance it on rough un evan terrain like on grass .. over all feel real expensive but low price. i would recommend it.

I Love This Monopod
Verified Purchase
I purchased this monopod for two reasons. First: I needed a monopod. Second: I needed a monopod for a road trip to Yellowstone, Zion, and Grand Canyon. I can say I pretty much put this thing to the test, and it held up in all instances of use. I hate saying this, but I really feel like I was abusing it just to see how good it was, and this thing was very well built. I even used it to hold up my camera in a river in in Zion National Park. Despite its use and abuse, everything still works perfectly. No scratches or broken parts. Everything still feels new.

I also got a lot of compliments on it, as a lot of people admired its looks and its use. I liked how stable it is, even at its full extension.

I would recommend this item to anyone looking to purchase a monopod despite its price.

Everything I heard is true

Everything I heard is true. So many YouTube reviewers gave this mono pod outstanding reviews. After using it a few times I have to agree that there are so many good things about it.

In my opinion the feet should be a little bit longer for more stability like on the Benro - and I think the carbon fiber tubing should have slightly thicker walls - when I put a beam out clamp on the top post for my battery… I’ve noticed that it makes it difficult to raise or lower the mono pod Because the clamp squeezes the tube

Other than that. I love it

One of the best monopods I’ve ever used.

Absolutely wonderful monopod. Ifootage does such a great job of making high quality camera accessories. You can really tell by the machine work and fit and finish of their products that they really are invested in making quality products. This monopod is extremely versatile with the tripod foot that is included. Use it as a monopod, use it as a tabletop tripod, use it as a boom pole, etc. I paired this with a manfrotto 502AH fluid head and they seem to be a match made in heaven. For travel or just needing a smaller setup I would alternatively suggest a Komodo K5, but be aware this head has quite a bit less adjustments for smooth panning , while being drastically smaller and lighter.

An impressive monopod.

This is an awesome little unit, even though it is not as light as expected, and I really like the way that it latches instead of twist ties to secure it from falling and collapsing. They definitely went above and beyond including this little mini tripod that you can use as a foot or a table top thing. I have even used this to hold overhead scrims and light diffusion. I'm glad I bought it. I know that it has some heavy duty hardware for the latches and some other things all together in that nice little carry case. It isn't maybe as light as I might have expected to be but then again it is certainly easier to hold overhead as a boom than any aluminum or other material by a long shot

I sold all my other monopods after buying this
Verified Purchase
I don't write a lot of reviews, but I just love this monopod. I had (again, HAD) several other monopods, including another carbon fiber one, but this one just blew them all away. So I sold them all.

It's lightweight.
It's easy to open and close (the buckles are very easy to use; I much prefer them to the screw-type).
The options available (tripod foot, single foot, and low-angle) are very useful.
And being able to switch between the monopod and low angle foot easily is a huge plus.

It's impressed me so much, I'll be buying one of their tripods soon.

Question:Can i use my samsung s21 ultra with this? do i need a phone mount?
Answer:This monopod is capable of mounting a wide variety of devices since it has both the more "professional" 3/8" X 16 threaded screw...and by means of a clever 'telescoping' sleeve on that screw, it can be pressed down to reveal the more common 1/4 x 20 screw. This means that for about 99% of all photo devices, all you need the the appropriate head or mounting holder. The quick answer...is Yes, you will need a phone mount, but those are easy to find and purchase...!
Enjoy this 'best in class' monopod...!!

Question:I just got this and set it up. The friction adjustment knob slides around when you move the monopod making an audible noise. Anyone notice this?
Answer:I have tried to duplicate the noise on my monopod. I do not have the same experience with my carbon fiber model.

Question:where is it made?
Answer:They are designed in the UK, and manufactured in China.
