WORKS GREAT IF YOU USE IT PROPERLY AND WITH OTHER PRODUCTS

DO NOT USE THE SANDING PADS UNLESS THE DISC IS ALREADY A LOST CAUSE! Sanding will leave permanent marks on the disc. Now that I have gotten the warning out of the way, here's what's up: Use a thin soft hose washer (cut in half) or CD spindle packaging pad (they work great) to put between the tightening nut and the disc. This nut will damage your discs otherwise. Tighten the nut with disc bottom facing you, but not too tight as to crack the disc. Ditch the supplied white and green stuff and use Mother's California Gold wax from Auto Zone. When you first start, apply liberally to get the wax into the pad. For every time after that, apply the wax directly to the disc covering well (a few small chunks sticking around are great). Keep a spray bottle of water around and hit the disc and the pad with a squirt just before starting. Run for 2 minutes. Should remove most scuffs. For deeper scuffs, switch pads and use a bit of toothpaste as the wax polishing agent. Do not polish discs for more than a combined 4 mins! When the disc is done, I squirt both sides, wipe it off with a microfiber towel until clean. Repeat if needed, but only one more time (unless the disc is already a lost cause then go for it). Use the sander only to rescue a badly damaged disc as it will add more (ok) damage while repairing the bad spots. Watch youtube vids for other cool tips, like how to extend use of the pads.

AWESOME! This turned a $20 picker find into retro gaming gold!

TLDR: This machine is one of the best investments you can make if you collect and/or resell ANY type of CD/DVD/BluRay optical media. Be it rare and out of print CDs, movies, or video games, the JFJ Easy Pro is a must have. Why? Let's take an example, right from my own experience.

I not so long ago I thought I struck retro gaming gold during a swap meet - I found one of the most sought after Playstation 2 games, now out of print: Rule of Rose. If you don't know what this is, go ahead and Google, and then check eBay or Amazon for sold prices.

Heart pounding, barely able to contain my glee, I quickly paid what the owner was asking, a meager $20. Why only $20 you ask? Well, I didn't bother asking at the time, as I noticed the ravenous smell of other retro gaming pickers giving me the evil eye. I grabbed my game, and quickly made my getaway.

Tears of joy quickly turned to tears of dread as I discovered why the previous owner priced this item so low. It looked like a cat decided to make friends with the disc, and make friends it did. Animal hair, scratches, and something sticky was covering the holy data part of the disc. The scratches in particular were plentiful and of a particular pattern that looked somewhat unnatural. I was now less convinced that this was caused by an animal but perhaps a smaller human child that may have used the disc in a playpen, sandbox or something worse. I was crushed.

I called around a few smaller gaming stores to see what they could do to help, but I wasn't getting anywhere. One shop charged $7 for resurfacing, but made it clear that no promises would be made, and if any damage were to occur, it's not their fault. Yeah, no thanks.

As I explained my poorly researched purchase to a friend that knows well more about retro gaming than I, he interrupted my whimpering cries with a simple "Dude, just use the JFJ". He was kind enough to let me borrow his machine. So I used it. And it did everything I hoped.

The JFJ is super easy to use, and comes with excellent straight forward instructions. The device itself looks a little "homebrew" and built on a budget in some dude's garage, but don't let that bother you.

I wasn't a believer at first, so I threw in some older less valuable Playstation 2 games I had, which were also fairly scratched up. Put the lotion on the pads, and have the JFJ massage the pain away. The first disc turned out perfect! I couldn't believe it.

I tried a few more discs and all turned out looking like new. I was now ready to run the JFJ on my mangled Rule of Rose disc. In this case, I opted to use the sandpaper first, as the JFJ instructions recommend. I'll admit that I was nervous. On the first complete pass, the JFJ cleaned up most of the scratches, but the disc still looked damaged from some pervasive marks. I called my JFJ expert friend again, and he advised to run it through another pass, again using the soft sandpaper for 20 seconds. I followed his advice and sure enough the second pass made the disc look minty fresh, ready for testing. Here are the settings I used:

First pass:
Soft sanding (10 secs)
White lotion polish (2 min)
Blue lotion buff (1 min)

Second pass:
Soft Sanding (10 sec) x 2 ( I stopped after each 10sec run to check the disc was on tight - more on that below)
White lotion polish (2 min)
Blue Lotion buff (1 min)

So yeah, the JFJ works and it works well. I ended up selling my copy Rule of Rose not long after I cleaned it up to perfection, and used some of the profits to buy my own JFJ machine for future finds. The JFJ is awesome, and I am completely happy with my purchase. I purchased the value pack, which includes another set of disc lotion, disc massage pads, and cleaning rag. It's a much better value for not that much more investment.

Just a few things to note:

- Be careful not to tighten the disc holding nut too hard. You don't want it loose either. Find the happy medium after you first use the machine a couple of times. If you notice that the nut is loose when removing the disc after a cleaning, you might need to make it tighter.

- JFJ warns about a burn-in ring towards the inner part of the disc if one of the polishing pads is dry on the outer edge. This happened to me. To fix, I followed the instructions and put some extra lotion on the edges and sides of the polishing pad. No more inner ring marks.

- If you notice lots of lotion on the side of the machine, you might be putting too much on! Several youtube videos advise that you should smear the lotion onto the pad to avoid this as well.

- Don't rush! Take your time, especially before using on a pricey disc. Learning how the machine works and testing things out on a few discs will bring you peace of mind later when you use it on something more valuable.

So that's my story and long-winded review. Your mileage may vary, but I love this little box of high-speed cleaning goodness. Thank you JFJ, you've made another happy customer right here.

MUST OWN FOR ANYBODY NEEDING TO REPAIR SCRATCHED DISCS!!!

I purchased this to remove scratches from dvd's, PS1, PS2 and XBOX Games. I didn't have a lot of confidence in buying this item but some videos I watched shows that it may work well. So I gave it a chance. Three months into this machine is still going strong, I still have plenty of pads and polish left also.

I have managed to bring back to life over 30 games that were completely unreadable! The surface turns out great and the discs work flawlessly in the systems. I have turned working scratched discs into working discs that look fantastic and are scratch free. I have removed some deep scratches that I thought would never be fixed and brought the disc to an almost new condition. This system even works on the BLU RAY PS3 games. I wouldn't use the sanding pads here but the polish pads do a great job.

I have revived and repaired over 100 discs so far. This is a must own for anybody that is a game collector, movie collector or just wants to clean up their discs. I imagine game resellers or movie resellers could benefit tremendously from this product as well.

I can't say enough about this fantastic system and how easy it is to use and learn.

Use the JFJ polishes..they are formulated for plastic dvd discs

I own over 6000 music, DVD, BLU RAY, COMPUTER ROMS, GAMING DISCS ect.. I repaired so far 6 music CD-ROMS, 3 DVDs, 4 Playstation 2 games.... just like new condition..very easy to use... WARNING::: Do NOT use anything other than JFJ polishes at all... These are formulated for the polycarbonate plastic these discs are made of... The use of automotive polishes, compounds, waxes, toothpaste, or ANY others suggested by users may deteriorate polycarbonate plastic....... car polish IE..MOTHERS, TURTLE.WAX, SIMONNIZE COMPOUND.. is formulated for PAINT..

Only an ID10T would try and use other things like cleaners polishes Ajax cleansers ect.. Don't be cheap. Buy original JFJ refills... also treat this machine carefully, respectfully, delicately, not forcing, abusing, adjusting, adding things and it will serve you long and well... Its plastic mostly... so it can break if force is applied to it.... This machine will protect your investment with movie, music, games, ect... use polishes sparingly but the first 2 or 3 times with a NEW pad you will need more polish. A little spritz of water helps save your polishing pads. The pads DO WEAR down...but a pad that doesn't have enough polish will wear faster....a little line of white / blue polish is ok... by little I mean about 1/16 th inch along the inner walls of machine tells you your using correct amount of polishes on the pads.... also let disc and machine cool down for 2 to 3 minutes between EVERY 1 MINUTE and less cycle..I never use the 2 minute button mostly I use the 20 second to 1 minute. I like to check polishing process often and never heat up the discs much. Discs do get warm to hot quickly... this is why I always cool down and polish for shorter times more often as needed to get the very best results possible from this machine.

the results have been excellent. After following the directions on the first few

After running this past about 100 disk or so, the results have been excellent. After following the directions on the first few, a few slight adjustments were made.

The idea is simply to use the least aggressive pad to the polish. Each stage will leave marks on the surface, the next stage make the scratches less visible. Any marks on the disk scatter the laser light while reading, so we need the surface to be as transparent as possible. Not giving the machine enough time on 1 step will give you an unreadable disk. The machine will not repair a disk where the silver layer is damaged or defective, it will only make the surface scratch free and transparent.

If the disk is scratched, run the fine sandpaper first. If it is really scratched the use the coarse. Check the disk after buffing to see if the scratches are gone, if not go back to the fine and use the blue polish onces its good. I use 10 secs on the sandpaper and the full 2 mins on the white & blue buffing. I also found that it really wanted to sling the compound all over. Once it hits the sides, its wasted. The simple trick is to use your finger to smear the compound into the pad. It doesn't take much to keep it from flying off the pads. The other trick that works good for me, is use a spray bottle to spritz the pads, but don't wet the sanding pads. Once the pad are saturated with compound, all it takes is couple of drops of fresh compound, and few trigger pulls from a spray bottle of clean water to re-wet the rest of the pad and bring the dried compound back to life. The compound does wear out so you need to keep reapplying a little more with each run.

With this method I have taken some really badly scratched DVDs back to playable, and some slightly tired looking back to new appearance.

Nothing compares in this price range.

For the price I am very happy with this machine. I have been using it about a year and I might average about 20 discs per week. You can't just follow the directions and get a perfect disc. Read the tips in the reviews here. The key for me to get rid of the very fine polishing scratches is after I finish a 2 minute run with the blue polishing compound, I open it up, spritz the pad a couple times with water (without adding more compound), and run it for another minute. Machine has been 100% reliable and I think the supplies are reasonably priced, especially if you buy the bulk bottles and pad sets.

Note:
-No amount of repair will fix a disc with topside scratches. If you hold a disc up to the light and can see some light shining through pinholes or scratches, those aren't going away. They may still play fine as discs have built in redundancy. Or they might be ruined.
-As others have said, the ps1 games with a black disc are very difficult to get rid of all the fine swirls.
-Let the thing cool off now and then if you are doing many discs in a row.

It has already paid for itself!

Unboxed it, read the instructions, played with two or three throw away scratches discs, and got to know what it could do. Then I went to work! I have slowly (so it can cool), worked all afternoon today and have polished 40 discs that were absolutely unwatchable. I had to use the coarse sandpaper on about 10 of them, and it works great! I have not tested in on bluray discs, but on my regular ones, we have some miracles here. My kids tested two this afternoon, all the way through, discs that were previously deeply, horribly scratched, and everything works! I am very happy so far. Will update later.

A must have for anyone with large dvd/cd/game library!!!

This has been a godsend!!! I have a HUGE Bluray/CD/DVD collection (+3000/+9000/+8000 discs respectively) over the last 5 years I have been converting my entire movie & music collection to digital format. 85% of my collection I bought new and have kept them in pristine condition over the years but I still come across discs that the computer fail to read for seemingly unknown reasons cuz I dont see any visible scratches or defects on the discs. I Have used this on DVDs and blu ray discs that I hadn't been able to play for years and after a few minutes in this...tada, a brand new disc!!! Saved me from having to repurchase those disc again which would have been over 5x more than the cost of the machine. The only con I can see so far is the buffing pads dont last long especially if you constantly use the 2 minute buff cycle for each disc as i did (about 12 cycles then time for a new one and u have to use a lot of the #1 & #2 polishing solution. Luckily upon my initial order I had ordered 6 additional pads and 2 ea. 24oz. bottles of both polishing solutions. I've done about 83 discs so far and I've gone through all the buffing pads and all the polishing solutions. So stock up if you're like me. This thing isn't perfect, I got 2 dvd discs from the 3rd season of the wire that for unknown reasons my computer cant detect in the drive. Tried buffing then sanding and repolishing again but it still dosen't read the discs, but hey my win/loss ratio is way up. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!!

Hands down best CD/DVD repair tool I have used for under $1000.

Will repair many non-functioning disks but do not expect a "perfect finish" on your resurfaced disks as this unit will leave a number of fine swirl marks on the disk.

Takes time to learn the method that works best, but definitely pays for itself quickly.

Highly recommended if you have scratched disks.

Will not recover every disk, but works great on the vast majority of them.

Have used it to repair non-working CDs, DVDs, Sega CD/Saturn/Dreamcast, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 disks as well as many others.

WARNING: DO NOT USE SANDPAPER ON BLURAY DISKS (Including Xbox One, PS4, etc). IT WILL DESTROY THEM.

The only cons are the solution is expensive and it does leave swirl marks on the resurfaced disk.

Best cleaner I’ve personally used

I haven’t had any issues cleaning any of my scratched discs. I have only used the very aggressive (600 grit) sandpaper once, but I’ve used the lighter (1000 grit) paper much more often- but always with plenty of water and always for only 10seconds at a time (60 seconds max). I’ve only used the chemicals that come with it and the discs always come out looking brand new. often they will play in the DVD players but cannot be read on my pc without additional cleaning, usually just additional buffing with the white and blue polish. I’ve yet to have one that was too damaged to fixed.

Question & Answer

Question :

So it this is jfj easy pro universal repair machine does this fix every disc can be remove from the scratch and dust off the disc?

Answer :

Just to be clear you should NEVER try to resurface any bluray media discs. This includes bluray and 4K bluray movie/TV discs, and game discs from video game systems like the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and WiiU, and just anything else that uses bluray format for it's discs (the Xbox 360 still used DVD format discs, and any systems from earlier than that used DVD or CD, which are safe to resurface) . The reason you shouldn't resurface Bluray media is because it is made in the factory with a special coating applied that makes it much harder to scratch than DVD and CD media, and resurfacing the disc like you would a DVD or CD would remove this protective layer. It usually just ruins the disc in the process, but even if a resurfaced bluray disc does somehow still work for the moment without it's protective coating it is now going to be just as easy to scratch as a DVD or CD, and because the data on a bluray is much more compact ANY tiny little scratch or nick will almost certainly cause lost data, or make the disc unreadable. This protective coating makes it very easy to gently polish blurays to remove fingerprints and smudges without scratching them at all, but that doesn't require an expensive machine like this. Just get a microfiber lense cleaning cloth and do it by hand. NEVER resurface them in a machine like this, which uses abrasives that actually take thin layers of the plastic off of the disc to remove the scratches. That process will destroy your bluray disc.

Question :

Do discs go in flat or sideways standing up?

Answer :

They go in flat on a turntable under the lid when shut it goes on the cleaning pad or the sanding pad on the bottom. It's pretty easy to operator. And it works great.

Question :

Is this model double arm?

Answer :

No it is not, this is the single arm unit.

Question :

I repaired three games and a movie with the sand paper and now they won't work. Why?

Answer :

I am assuming that that you used all 3 for 4 steps (coarse/fine/white/blue). If the surface is clear and shinny with no scratches it should work. I have had to process some disk 2 or 3 times before the worst scratches were gone. Also look at the silver center layer. If it is damaged in any way the disc is just a coaster.

The sad part is that some discs have a defective data layer and you can not fix those. If these discs work once and now don't, then make sure you work them until the surface looks like a brand new dvd.

Question :

when it says up to 250 repairs does that mean the padding or the machine??

Answer :

It means with the pads and polishing compounds that come with it. I buffed and polished about 100 of dvd's and didn't even worn one of the buffing pads yet.

Question :

Hi, As this is a 110 volt appliance, it there an adaptor available or it to work in australian 240 volt socket?

Answer :

You will have to buy a transformer that converts 110 to 220 voltage. Even with a transformer the JFJ may spin at a different speed, I dont remember if it will be faster or slower.

Question :

Where can I go to purchase the GameCube accessories for the jfj easy pro?

Answer :

Got mine from Amazon

Question :

Does this leave swirl marks on the discs?

Answer :

very light ones. the more finish polishing you do to a disc the less you will see. Beware on blue ray tho they cannot handle much polishing. if the unit worked at a slower speed blue ray might work better.

Question :

will this machine work in Australia

Answer :

I don't know what your electrical voltage is in Australia. They make versions of this for 110 and 220, so you'd just need to get the one that applies to Australia.

Question :

Do you have to buy seperate parts for gamecube games?

Answer :

It works on CD's and DVD's very well. I think gamecube has the same center hole diameter as a DVD so it should work fine.
