Question: | Possible to take a video with this without using a tripod, just sitting on a desk ? Is it stable enough with a phone on it ? |
Answer: | Yes, you can attach this mount to a photo tripod, providing it has a standard Arca mount or 1/4-20 threaded stud mount. The base of the phone holder has a provision for an Arca mount or 1/4-20 stud attachment. As for using on a desk, yes it will stay upright on its own as the holder has a swivel leg that swings out to keep the holder upright on a flat surface like a table or desk. The stability will be based on the size and weight of the phone. The larger and heavier the phone, the easier it will be to tip over while upright on a flat surface. Although I'm using it with a LG G7 smartphone and it is quite stable on my office desk.

Question: | Can it rotate down facing a desk if attached to a tripod? I want to take a video while making something… |
Answer: | The extent of downward facing exposure for the camera would depend upon your tripod in part. It is possible to obtain an overhead recording. If you want an unobstructed view, without any camera angle, and have an extension for the tripod or a tripod that allows for a horizontal reach as well as vertical extension then sure it is possible. Just using the mount and an average tripod might also record part of the tripod within the frame shooting straight down.

Question: | What is the depth of the padded grippers? my iphone is thick with a case and a thinoptics case. i need .650" deep. |
Answer: | The grips are exactly .5 inch long. They are tapered to the tip, so as long as they reach over the thickest part of your phone case, they will work fine. They are adjusted with thumbscrews so they are very secure vs the typical spring options. I would never trust my iPhone to springs. Hope this helps ! |
