I love this system for filters. It has an inner cloth filing wrap with velcro closure that the filters layer into and an outer padded cube that everything zips in to neatly. When I travel I take the whole system with me and when I'm backpacking or just day hiking, the inner part fits perfectly into my Mindshift Backlight 18 pack which has plenty of it's own padding which helps reduce weight and bulk. I love having the outer padded cube for when I carry filters in a non-padded bag like luggage or it can be used to carry a larger lens or other items. Very versatile and well made. The outer cube has a belt loop (I never use) and a small webbing strap and clip.

Best Filter Carry Case
Verified Purchase
Excellent way to carry filters of both the square and round variety, as well as the filter holder and all the bits and pieces. Probably the best one on the market in my opinion. Very light, with just enough structure to protect the contents, yet make access easy. Multiple carrying methods (ordinary trouser belt, think tank belt, or hanging from tripod) makes it very adaptable. I would like it if they also sold a lightweight expansion insert that could be added inside in addition to the standard insert, so as to carry a few extra 100x150mm GNDs when needed. For now I use the Filter Hive Mini for the overflow, although the MIni doesn't have its own removable insert and of course would not fit insert the Filter Hive itself (well you can actually squeeze the Mini inside the higher end of the Hive, but the Mini is still a little bit too tall to be entirely practical to be used this way) .

Quality and the right size

This is really well made like all MindShift Gear I have purchased. It is a great size. I bought one for my filters and liked it so much, that I bought another to hold my GoPro and DJI Pocket along with all of the cords and batteries. You will want more than one because they have so many uses and are so well made.

Wonderful filter holder

They did a great job on the design of this filter holder. It's much nicer to have all my filters loaded into a single holder vs. having to sift through multiple individual filter pouches.

Great filter holder and works great with the rotation 180 backpack
Verified Purchase
As with any other mindshift gear product that I have used so far, the Filter Hive doesn't fail to impress. Before ordering I was worried that this bag would be too large to add to my Mindshift Gear Rotation 180 backpack, but I was pleasantly surprised how compact it is. I am using this bag to carry my filters ( 2x 100x150, 2x 100x100, 1x 72mm Polorizer, 3x close up kit) along with extra batteries, memory cards and all the lee filter holders and there is still enough place to carry more. The quality and feel is also great... It can definitely be turned into an extra lens bag if filters are not needed for small lenses like 24-70...

Well thought out product.

This is a very versatile filter pouch. Extra pockets for lens cloth or other small flat objects comes in handy. The filter dividers are color coded so you can organize the filters is smart, no more guessing which filter is where. The Velcro flap outside servers to attach to a belt for ready portability and the clip strap can be attached to a tripod keeping the filters handy while shooting. Highly recommended.

Holds expensive filters safely

I gave the filter hive an initial test yesterday morning for a sunrise shoot at a local waterfall. It performed as promised. It holds all the filters I need securely. I did experience a slight learning curve on getting them out in the field. Once I learned how to get them out easily and quickly things went smooth. I attribute that to my fat fingers. I can recommend this product confidently. Two thumbs up. .

Best filter holder I've seen.

I love this bag for all my filters. It seems to be a very well thought-out product. I like the fact that I can put it on a belt, or hang it off my tripod, or with the removable core you can simply slip it into any pack. . The construction of the bag is wonderful. I am extremely happy with this product.

This is sweet for a small collection on filters.

This great if you need 4x5.65 plus circular filters. Wish it could hold one or two more 4x5.65 but over all it's great!

Question:Does it have rigid sides to keep filters from braking or cracking if case is compressed or bent
Answer:Nearly impossible to bend the case, but the sides are soft. The filters fit into a hive inside the case so that it is pretty hard to imagine them breaking. Think Tank builds really well-made gear bags.

Question:I noticed that the zipper of my case does not close all the way, leaving a very very small gap. It actu appers like that in the photos. Is it correct?
Answer:You have to pay close attention when zipping it closed to avoid this. Otherwise, yes it will leave a small gap which is annoying. Also a better design would be to have two zippers so you could close it to either side or even have the zippers meet in the middle. Hope that helps...

Question:Is this too big for the Cokin P size filters?
Answer:I use Wine Country vaults around my 100mmx150mm filters and they fit snuggly.

Question:How many filters will it hold?
Answer:maybe you should read the description... “insert holds up to six flat graduated neutral density filters up to 4x6” (100x150 mm) and six round filters up to 82mm diameter” copied that right out of there.

Answer:A 100 x 150 filter will fit nicely, but a 150 x 150 won’t. It’s too wide.

Question:How do you label each sleeve? I don't see anyway to do it. How are you supposed to quickly find the filter you need?
Answer:The dividers (sleeves) are color coded to help with identification. The inner filter sleeve/pouch can be removed easily, making the color coding more visible. Those are nice features, but I haven't really relied on it much. I've found it easy to recall which filters are in which sleeve. There are only 6 sleeves for square/rectangular filters and the same goes for round, so not much to keep track of. Personally, I don't think labeling them would be useful.
This is a very well thought out case. FYI and somewhat unrelated to your question, this is the only case I've found that fits my Wine Country camera filter holder, 100mm grads and ND filters, as well as step rings. It's a very useful piece of gear. Hopefully you'll find the same.

Cheers. :)
