Excellent cable at a bargain price, but read on if you are using it on a crowded pedal board

I purchased this cable based on my very positive experience with some other cables that I ordered from this brand ( Monoprice 104749 1.5-Feet Premier Series XLR Male to XLR Female 16AWG Cable .)

Like the XLR cables, this one is slightly different in size that what is described. Overall length is 18.5 inches and the cable that is approximately 17 7/8 inches when measured from the housing of the connectors. For me that is not a real issue, but what may be an issue of you are planning to use these with pedals mounted on a pedal board, the length from the strain reliefs to the top of the connector housings is 2 inches. Also, the TRS end's tip to the top of the housing is 2.25 inches, with 5/8" of the housing protruding when the TRS end is fully inserted. Those numbers should help you to determine if this will work in your particular pedal board.

The cable is noise free in my application, which is interconnecting a
TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct XT Vocal Effects Processor  to a  TC Helicon VoiceTone H1 Vocal Effects Processor . I did notice that the housing ends are split, two piece design that are held together by the strain reliefs. Also, at the end of the strain relief, the bend radius of the 16AWG cable is very tight, which was a pleasant surprise.

Bottom line: the only potential issue I see with this cable the it may not work well on a pedal board with tightly spaced pedals. In all other respects it has proven to be mechanically and electrically sound, and I intend to order more.

Very Effective

I used this to to connect to my Schiit Heresy amp to be able to have multiple headphone jacks so I don't have to pull out one headphone plug if I want to use another. It's effective and gives me the ability to plug several headphones together and use the selector swith to chose what I'd like to use.

Super durable, easy to modify.

This cable is super solid. I got this cable because I needed the TRS plugs, but not the cable itself. I used it to wire a Flashback 2 delay to a basic tap tempo switch. This requires a TRS plug on the Flashback side and a mono plug on the tap tempo switch. You will need to use a regular mono or instrument cable and the ground will be soldered to both grounds of the plugs but the tip from the mono plug needs to be connected to the “ring” side of the TRS plug.

Cables seem to be well made with attention to details

I'm a cable snob. I know the importance of good cables from wiring up studios with Mogami and yes, you can hear a difference between good cables and poor ones at the extreme high and low ends of the spectrum. These cables seem to be well made with attention to details. Polished and plated, good insulation, low capacitance, good strain relief. I use these on a live sound rig and they have held up so far,

this is a nice cable

i didnt need this nice of a cable but it was the only foot long at a decent price. only using it for a switch pedal. so i cannot comment on sound quality or anything like that. my switch just makes a momentary connection. that can be accomplished with two trs plugs and some loose wire. but it wont be pretty... or safe. so this does the job.

Initial impression is... very impressed...!

This is just an initial impression mind you. I needed a MUCH shorter cable for my Moog EP-3 Expression pedal for my pedalboard. The Moog ships with a 6.5 footer, and it sits immediately to the right of my Zoom B3 Effects box. Not exactly a long distance to go... I like a neat pedalboard, so I got this...

I have several other Monoprice products, and like the others, I have yet to be disappointed with them. The ends appear solid, the sleeves are well attached, and the cable is thick and well insulated. This creates no noise and the ends fit standard 1/4" TRS connectors perfectly. I can't say enough good about this, again at this point.

I will update this review if it needs to be updated, but as it stands now, I can't imagine any better of a cable for my uses.

Excellent Build Quality, Perfect for StudioLive Mixers' Front-Edge HP Jack

Seriously good quality, surprised and delighted. I keep our headphone amp on a shelf right underneath our PreSonus StudioLive 32.4.2 AI mixing desk, and due to where the headphone jack is on this mixer, a regular cable sticks straight out. Presonus put the HP jack right on the front edge and not all that recessed. In our small soundbooth at our church, I'd easily shear that off and bust the mixer as well just walking by. So I wanted something strong that would point the cable straight down and be decent qualirty, and this cable fits that need 100%. It'd also work if you're mounting your mixer in a frame or desk as a permanent install. This cable is SO much better than some molded plastic thing. Great build quality, just like other Monoprice cables and adapters I've gotten in the past.

High Quality Cable

I’m using this on my pedal board as a patch cable between the pedal on the bottom left to the pedal located upper right. You can tell the moment you touch it how well it’s made.

Cons: Should have bought two!

Great for the price!

I have had no problems or issues with the cables I bought from Monoprice. I was able to buy plenty to have as extras for that "just in case" moment. I looked them up and went to their actual website, and it was even cheaper, so I bought more! They have so much more then I expected, like stuff for smart phones, and many other items. I suggest you go to their site though since the prices are even cheaper then they have on here! I have finally found a place that is not trying to get rich off of every person out there, like Mogami, which I paid around $80 for my main guitar cable, which has a lifetime warranty, but still WAY more expensive then it should have been.

Great Cables! A lot of gigs w/no problems !

I use these for the expression pedals on my AX8. Very solid cable without a doubt.
I even bought a spare in case one gets lost.

I have different lengths of these for other applications as well. And they lay nice a flat all the time. Nice stuff.

Never had a problem, and been through a lot of shows with these cables.
They’re great !!

Question & Answer

Question :

How long is this exactly? The product description says 1.5 ft (18 inches), but under the product information is says 13.2 inches. Which is correct?

Answer :

This unit is 18 inches tip to tip

Question :

Awg16 refers to a quality of build not the type of cable or jack. is this a trs male to trs male as it came in my search for male to male?

Answer :

Thank you for your question. This is in fact a TRS male to TRS male cable. The 16AWG just refers to the gauge of the cable.

Question :

can I use this to connect my zoom h4n to my dlsr, I have a similar male in to in cable, however when I connect it to my zoom h4n it doesn't work

Answer :

Nope. You’ll need an 1/8” microphone attenuator cable for that. I do the exact same thing and use this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073HR6SY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6nYTCbGP3F7FR
More expensive but worth it. I also record the audio into the recorder as a fail safe.

Question :

Can i connect my phone directly to this other input? my xlr input cord is having some sound problem but the bass seems to be fine. will appreciate a

Answer :

No, your phone will be a 3.5mm connection, you would need an adapter to connect to a 1/4" connection

Question :

Can i use this cable to connect my preamp to an interface?

Answer :

It depends on the type of output on your preamp and the type of input on your interface. If the preamp has 2 stereo outputs, then no - this is not the cable for you. If it has a single stereo output, then yes.
Same for the interface - If it has 2 stereo inputs, then no. But it it has a single stereo input, then yes.

Question :

Are these trs connectors , "tip to wiper" configuration?

Answer :

yes...mono only has one ring around the shaft trs has 2. Think of it as stereo=2 mono=1

Question :

Is this cable line-level or speaker-level?

Answer :

i believe it is intended for line-level use.

Question :

Will it work as a yamaha dd75 drum pedal cable? Thank you

Answer :

If it has the ports then it should.

Question :

Can someone tell me What the exact length of just the cable wire is (before connectors)?

Answer :

This cord (at least the one I purchased) is exactly 19.5" from the outside right angle - connector to connecto. The exact exposed cord length between connectors is 17". I hope that helps.

Question :

I need a special cable with trs on one end and ts on the other. can the plugs be removed (desoldered?)

Answer :

If your asking if you can keep one of the TRS ends (2 CHANNEL) and exchange the other TRS end for a TS (one channel) depending on the devises your serving then yes but you need to rewire all the wires to the right poles to get both channels through both ends (stereo to mono). My preference is purchasing a cable all wired and ready to go for the function you need. If your asking if you can just disconnect 2 wires on the one end then no because you will lose one of the channels in the disconnected end. Spend the money and buy a new cable. Hope this helps
