Prefered over Direct Amp Plug in Level Controller
I have used these PAC level controllers for many years now. In most cases I actually prefer using them on a subwoofer amplifier over the level controllers that come with some amplifiers and plug directly into the amp for a couple of reasons. The first reason being is that these PAC controllers are in cased in a plastic that can easily be removed with out damaging the circuitry. This allows you to just use the working circuitry inside of the casing which is a potentiometer and small chip. This makes mounting the controller much easier and nicer, because you can then simply mount the much smaller potentiometer into a small hole on the dash or other compartment in the vehicle hiding the potentiometer behind the dash where only the knob itself is seen. (Picture is controller mounted in my Tacoma) "Sorry I did not take a picture of the controller after removing the case". With the bulky case around it you are stuck with mounting the level controller via two small screws on the outside of the dash, which is an ugly eyesore. Some might think, "well wouldn't the level controllers that plug directly into the amp be a better option" than this PAC controller. Well the answer is in most cases is no. I will explain why. This PAC LC-1 controller connects inline to the RCA coming from the head unit to the amplifier. So it is directly controlling the signal going to the amp. Since it is controlling the signal going to the amp it is capable of completely turning the amp signal all the way down so that no signal reaches the amp. Thus there will be no output to the woofers, which means no sound coming from the woofer. This is great because there are times you want to have your music with out all of the bass. Now the level controllers that plug directly into the amp controls the output gain on the amp, so it can only turn the gain down as far as the amp will allow. In many cases with amps, even when the gain on the amp is turned all the way down it is still sending voltage to the subwoofers which will produce sound. The sound from the woofer will be much lower, but it will still be audible. Simply put if you want to be able to control the volume of your subwoofer from full mute to full gain. This PAC LC-1 controller is the way to go. They are quality made, easy to use, and work very well. One other thing is that since they control the signal going into the amp instead of the gain going out of the amp. They can be used on any size amplifer, because signal input from head units is usually no more that 5 volts. Which is easily handled by this controller.

Excellent controller. I'm using it two control two Rockville powered subs in my truck. Your imagination is the limit on how to hide this thing. I disguised mine as the cigarette lighter on my dash.

Incredible value for under $10, plus super simple installation
Recently installed an older Memphis mono amp in my truck. It works great but didn't include the original remote from Memphis. Turns out not all RJ11 remotes are compatible, so I started looking for a universal gain control knob and came across this. It costs less than $10, and offers the exact same functionality as most proprietary gain knobs costing 5x more. This was delivered over my lunch break today, so I decided to hook it up in my truck before I pulled out of the driveway. Simply grabbed an extra RCA cable pair which went from the output connectors to my amp, and then connected the existing pre-amp RCAs into it. Works like a charm, and lets me turn down the bass a little quicker when I pull into the office parking lot every morning. I'm sure my coworkers appreciate it lol.

Perfect under dash - AMP' control for aftermarket systems. Must have for 100% control of a system.
Got this to turn down my amp' accordingly/ since touchscreen 2din mp3 unit doesn't have amp/sup aux rear out control, this is great alternative.
Mounts with 2x tiny screws, kind of crappy and PiTa' Too get started.. but they work when pre-drilled. rite size screwdriver...
Or use you own small screws.. pre-drill, small self tappers..
you'll need a short 1.5-3ft RCA cable too connect this too your head unit from under dash..
The cables attached are long, almost reach but, not long enuff for a truck or tall dash.
Id grab a small 2-4ft extension of RCA male-male cables just in case.. depending were you mount it.
As for the controller. its great. handle 2k watt amp no problems.. Solid build quality..
The fade from 0-100% seems too work great. Nice smooth dial. It goes all way down too 0% or off.
I listen too all music, so its nice too be able too reach down and turn my sub' up or down a tad-
Or off if I need..
Only things could be better, maybe the screws, bit longer atleast on input of RCA too reach head unit on big vehicles.. and last, a tiny bit of glow in dark on dial, or led would be awesome too help find it at nite..
But I can live with it as is, especially for price an how it works..

Works great as a volume control
I used it in an arcade cabinet between a Raspberry Pi USB sound card and Logitech desktop amplified speakers.
It gave me a volume control that I could mount at an accessible location since the Logitech speakers are mounted inside the cabinet and their volume control is inaccessible.
There is no hissing or static. The range of adjustment is very good and smooth. There is no loss of any quality of the sound.

good quality, functions well.
A recently purchased amp included a remote subwoofer level control which connected to the amp itself (via a telephone type cable), but this seemed to produce some distortion when used. This controller from Amazon connects "in line" with the RCA outputs located at the rear of most car stereos (if already using an amplifier for sub, no need to remove head unit from dash. just disconnect leads for input to amp, plug them into this item, then plug the leads from this unit into your amp). this controller raises or lowers the actual signal from your head unit and works beautifully. Just use your stereo settings to bring your sub signal output to a high enough level to have good increase/decrease range when using this controller. you must supply your own screws if you want to mount it someplace or use two sided mounting pads or Velcro. I would recommend this product.

Perfect. No screws included though.
It works as expected and feels like good quality. I read other reviews and recommendations before deciding on this. My local audio dealer wanted $34.99 for this thing. $9.99 on Amazon. I like to support local business, but not at that markup. I used double sided tape to mount the LC-1. NOTE: does not include mounting screws. I expected some machine or self tapping screws, but there were none included. A GoPro double sided sticky pad worked perfectly. Lastly, don’t forget to grab a short RCA cable to tie this into your system. Quick and easy install.

Don't be a HACK!
I bought this because you cant buy a new Emotiva control freak any more :( I'm using this to control 2 subs. Wire tie the wires all up and mount it with dual sided servo tape. Use quality sub cables for the love of Pete! Put all the wires inside of some black split loom. Don't HACK your work, make it look nice! I cant stand to see Mickey Mouse, hack jobs and leave all the visible spaghetti wires all over the place. Have some pride for god sake.... I bought the Elediy machined knob with this, gives it a nicer feel. Pull the old plastic knob off and put this nice metal machined knob on. It comes with a set screw to lock it down along with the proper Allen key.

Way better than amp specific bass knobs
I had a fun project with a dual 2ohm subwoofer where I wanted to power each voice coil with an independent amplifier. I knew I wanted a bass knob and I didn't like the layout options for using the amp specific knob or knobs (which use a 3.5mm).
This acts as a man in the middle controlling the level of signals in the RCA cables. Rather basic really, looks to just be a potentiometer in a casing with RCA input and output connectors (all female connectors), but that's not a flaw, that's what makes this great. The response time is instant, which is awesome as this particular vehicle is very bass heavy and you can be respectful at red lights and turn down the bass without losing the music from your other speakers. Also very fun to set it down low at maybe a 1/4th and demo your system to a friend, then on the second drop, let it wide open and see the surprise if they weren't expecting it.
Assuming you already have your standard male to male RCA run from head unit to amp, you just need to pick up a short run 3ft or 4 ft, and you can put the LC-1 right in the middle.

Quick and easy install. Adjustment is smooth
I saw some other reviews stating the range was all in a short span when turning the knob. I actually adjusted my gain on my amp to make this work great. I wanted to tone down my boat tower speakers while keeping the interior speakers loud. This works great. I actually ordered a 2nd one to get some subwoofer control as my wife hates the bass but when she's not on the boat the kids and I rock out.
Question & Answer
Question :
Does the knob come off so that the unit can be flush mounted behind a panel?
Answer :
Yup, in fact, that's what I did. I busted open the plastic housing and pulled out the circuitry, then drilled out a hole in the glovebox and mounted the knob. That way, I opened the glovebox and adjusted the levels if needed.
Question :
Does the label on the front of the unit (pac, level, etc.) come off easily, or is it painted on? looking to intstall this in a "clean" project.
Answer :
Its painted on but its raised lettering and seems like it wouldn't be hard to remove. My remote is hid, so it's a nonissue for me, but I understand wanting it clean!!
Question :
are rca jacks both a line in and line out?
Answer :
Yes, there are two sets of RCA jacks. One set for "In", and one set for "Out". They are all female.
Question :
The description says that it is a remote level controller. Does it work with an infrared remote control? If not, do you know of one that does?
Answer :
IR controlled volume boxes are available, look up the MCM CUSTOM AUDIO 50-8394.
Question :
Does this completely mute the audio when turned all the way down? 2 PCs + 1 speaker system and mixer. At 0 my mixer still lets sound bleed through.
Answer :
yes. although the build quality i thought was poor. i ended up replacing this one

i use this in my car to control the main volume from the tablet to the line drivers.
Question :
If volume is all the way down, will it turn off all sound completely? As if it was off...
Answer :
It's not a volume knob it's a bass knob so it just controls the amount of bass you want if u want a lot u turn it up if u want a little u turn it down.
Question :
Will this work as a line out converter? In between a low watt headunit and a factory amplifier
Answer :
If it uses rca yes
Question :
I have a amp in my boat hooked up to 4 speakers no deck. I was wondering if this could control the volume of the speakers?
Answer :
this will work if your input 'rcas" are coming from a source . For example if you have an iphone connected to this ' ' then have a set of rcas ran to the amplifier it will work the same as a volume switch. i have the same set up in my rzr.
Question :
I purchased this so i could control the volume of my monitors plugged to my tv and i lost a lot of volume ,is there any way to gain volume back ?
Answer :
Check the voltage coming off the line while this is connected and without it connected using a multimeter. Its possible this device is attentuating the max voltage on the line which would give you a decrease in volume.
Question :
What is the resistance of the volume controls? I want to install it between a line level audio out and a microphone in jack on my camcorder!
Answer :
Sorry i do not know the correct answer..i use this in my H2 Hummer to Control the Amplifier/Sub Woofer Volume from the front of vehicle..(Works really well for the $$$)...
