Pricy, But Worth It, Just Be Aware of Limitations

I debated between 4 stars and 5 stars, but in the end, the limitations are my fault, not the product.

If you use the NP-F570 6600mAh battery, the life on this is incredible. I have used it to power a Samsung Galaxy Note9 that is streaming over LTE for hours, and a Rode microphone concurrently with no issues. The unit is lightweight, compact, and with the 1/4" 20 mounting hole I have connected it to a cold shoe adapter.

Now the downside. The Sony NP-F570 batteries have an output of 7.2V. So if you're going to power a device through the Sony battery using the 2.5mm DC port, you can't. So for a number of devices, such as Nikon cameras, this won't serve as an external power solution.

One other thing to be aware of, it does have a USB-C port, however, that port is power input only. It is a great product for what it is, just be aware of the limitations. Had I realized the issue of 7.2V versus 12.0V I wouldn't have bought it, but that isn't the fault of Power Junkie, that is on me.

Compact, powerful, storable. Love it!

This thing is AWESOME. Super small and easy to store, which means also easy to mount and store in a bag. As someone who has a ton of NPF batteries, this gives me tons of options for powering a variety of devices in a couple ways. The big thing to pay attention to here is what cable you're using. Certain usb cables are data cables while others are designed for charging, which will charge your camera much faster than data cables. The issue with data cables is that your camera might show "charging" but it will eventually drain faster than it is charging, and shut down if left to it's own devices. Make sure you're using a charging cable, then you're good to go!

UPDATED OutStanding Power Source for Mirrorless and DSLR Cameras

After 1.5 years using this power solution, thought I would update my review. The reason I stumbled on my review is that I am getting two more for additional camera setups. One on a gimbal and one stationary video B camera.

I am just as sold on this as when I first reviewed it. It continues to be the power source on my primary A camera video rig. In studio I run all power to that rig through the power junkie by using a DC-in dummy Sony NP-FXXX rather than a battery. That is plugged into AC. In the field I just replace the dummy AC source with a real battery.

It will keep my iPhone charged and camera running for several hours on one Sony NP-F9XX. I obviously keep additional batteries at hand in case I use too much power. I don't buy OEM Sony batteries. I use the nicest knockoffs I can get on Prime.

Note, I only use original Sony batteries in my cameras when not using the power junkie.
-------
Outstanding power source for professional video production. Solid build and light weight. Performs the job of providing power longer and with easy battery changes. We bought this to power cameras (Sony a7Sii, A7, and A6300) with FP-Fxxx batteries. We use the smaller NP-F550, but you can use any battery in the series including the NP-F970. The advantages are; easy battery swap and battery life. There are adapters for virtually any model of DSLR and mirrorless camera. I purchased the adapter for NP-FW50 camera because we use a7 and a6000 series cameras. This is great for any video setup from run and gun to studio on sticks. There are other options out there which are more solidly built, etc. but for the price you can keep a couple of these in reserve in case one stops workIng. The accompanying photos are from a commercial video productions. If I had been running the f750 or f970 battery I would not have needed any battery swaps on the 4 hour job. The f550 is good for over 2 hours. Light enough to use on a6300 on Crane 2 gimbal stabilizer.

Most exciting accessory for my camera

I have been struggling to keep my Sony Np-Fw50 batteries charged while shooting long take videos such as interviews. I have been exploring several options till I stumbled upon this device made by a company named Blind Spot.
Even though it is an expensive item, it is extremely useful device. I have so many NP-F batteries laying around like any other photo/Video guy and now I can use them to power my Sony a6300 as well as two USB powered devices simultaneously while on the go. As you can see in the video, I am initially using with my a6300, along with Rode Go Wireless mic. It worked perfectly. I will be testing it more extensively and will be updating my review.
As far as the design & build quality, it is very sturdy plastic material. Tripod mounts metal and looks like it will hold it together. Design wise, I wish it was a bit longer to cover the whole battery, which would make it more secure and strong connection, just like SmallRig or Tilta version.
Overall, I am satisfied with the outcome, I will keep you posted after more usage and testing.

Perfect addition to my GH5 rig

The Power Junkie is small, lightweight, and easily fits onto my rig. I use a cold shoe adapter to attach it. It holds the batteries securely, and I haven't had any issues with shortages or power loss.

Now that I use Sony NP-F batteries to run the GH5, I never worry about power—just shooting. A 5800mAh has been getting me 5+ hours (just powering the GH5, no other accessories, constantly on, no sleeping).

Been a solid piece of gear for me.

8+ hours for Lumix G7/G85!

After using mains and portable USB battery packs to power my Lumix G7 and G85 cameras over the last two years, I decided to go for a more conventional approach and use my supply of Sony NP-F batteries. I bought one of the Power Junkie NP-F plates to test and see how well things would work with my G85.

I made a 1.7mm to 2.1mm cable to connect the Power Junkie to my dummy Lumix battery and then set up for live streaming (HDMI to recorder to YouTube, IBIS and lens stabilization turned on.) Six hours later and I still had 3/4 left on the battery!

The plate is tough and easy to mount to my cage, works great, and it makes going into the field so much easier. I definitely recommend this one!

Fantastic accessory

This is a great device, and I'm using it to power both a FW279 field monitor and my Sony RX100 VII camera. I have the monitor plugged into the circular power socket and the camera via the USB. I love how tiny this thing is! Much smaller than it looks in photos. About 1/4 the size of my old NP-F battery charger. Great build quality too - not cheap feeling plastic. My only beef is that when a battery is plugged into it the status lights are always on. There's no way to turn them off without disconnecting the battery, so it's always slowly draining it. Other than that it's perfect!

Your search for a value vs performance is over! Buy It!

Buy it and forget about any other battery to rig charging station. 100% quality throughout. The blue LED’s keep you constantly aware of your batteries charged level. Not much larger than a Zippo lighter, saving weight on my rig and allowing me to Mount pretty much anywhere I want. The supplied USB to micro c cable is sturdy, well built, and extremely durable.
The 1/4” threaded insert hasn’t spun on me and is securely fastened to the chargers body.
The rubber pad on the bottom allows a little vibration absorption, non-skid surface is great when mounting to bare metal on a rig.
For the money, this is a great, powerful tool, every videographer and cameraman needs to own!

It works..

Great little device that can power up the whole rig with just 1 battery, I hooked this up with a SWIT battery powering my camera and monitor at the same time.

Keep in mind that I’m using swit battery that has DC output for the monitor, and my camera through the power junkie port.

ps with no battery attach this LED indicator will randomly flashes when you connect the usb or usb C charging cable

Good stuff!!

I was thinking to buy a v mount battery but for it you need a v mount plate and support for it and the v mount batteries are not cheap at all , I get a Sony a6000 and this model of cameras get a little issue with battery ( they die really quick) so for fixing this problem I need something, and by something I get this product ! Works great , no issues or problems in already 2 months! My problem is fixed and I can record hours now from one battery!!

Question & Answer

Question :

Is it safe to assume I cannot power a camera and monitor at the same time with this setup since it only has one DC port?

Answer :

I can supply power to my camera, wireless lavalier set, and recording monitor all simultaneously. So to answer your question, 3 devices can be powered by 1 battery source.

Question :

will this provide the right power for bmpcc 4k?

Answer :

Yup, using the Blind Spot Canon dummy battery this is the perfect partner for the BMPCC 4K.

Question :

Mine doesn't seem to charge anymore? It still powers my things, but when I plug it in the lights go out. I have tried several cables and power sources

Answer :

Hmmm, it sounds like the charging port may have become damaged, you can probably start a return process via Amazon or contact Blind Spot through their website.

Question :

Please help! i plugged a 2.5 plug to power a bmpcc 6k and din't work, any problem with wats?

Answer :

Hi, if you are going into the 12V dc port it won't work. The DC only gives out 7.2v, it needs to be used with a dummy battery. Hope this helps

Question :

I know there is a cold shoe and a 1/4-20 thread, but what are people doing for mounting this to a cage so that it's really secure?

Answer :

I either use a quick release plate or mount it with a 1/4 20 bolt from the camera side of the cage. So take out the camera from the cage, mount through the 1/4 20, and then re-insert the camera. Hope this helps.

Question :

Is there an adapter for the Canon m50?

Answer :

Blind Spot doesn't make one, but, you could get a generic one that has a 2.5 x 5.5mm DC barrel and use that, or one with a 2.1x5.5 barrel and get a barrel adapter.

Question :

I bought the blindspot, 2 batteries and a dumby battery. is your product not compatible with the canon t6i?

Answer :

The t6i uses a E-17 which we don't make as a dummy battery but the Power Junkie will work with any other brand, you may have to adapt the DC port to 2.5x5.5mm

I hope this helps

Question :

What are the barrel dimensions for dummy batteries, adapters etc?

Answer :

The DC barrel is 2.5mm, hope that helps.

Question :

Will this work with the Canon M50 ?

Answer :

It will but you will need an appropriate dummy battery and possibly DC barrel converter.

Question :

Anyone tried powering the Nucleus Nano motor?

Answer :

Yes, I tried it. I made a DC to micro USB cable (from an old powerbank, so it only had 2 wires) and it works perfectly with the Nucleus! The voltage with a full np-f 550 battery was 8.2v so it even has better torque!
