Modified to improve stability.
Verified Purchase
I made a modification to improve stability. Cost is less than $5 and takes a couple of hours. The lower part of the center column was removed and stored. A 1/4" hole was drilled in the center of the threaded center column cap. A 1"x 3"x 1/4" eyebolt was installed using nuts and washers on both sides of the center column cap. The upper nut requires a deep socket to tighten the assembly. The assembly was screwed into the center column and snugly hand-tightened exercising care not to over-tighten. A purple anodized carabiner was used to suspend a 10 pound 10 ounce sandbag centered beneath the tripod head. This puts the load very close to the manufacturer's maximum recommended weight once a camera and heavy lens is clamped in.

The springiness of the legs and the wobble of the center column are greatly reduced thereby increasing the probability no movement will occur as the shutter fires.

Lightweight Meets Quality Construction

I'm super impressed with the Slik Pro 700DX tripod. It's made of what feel like real solid and quality materials. The tripod is lightweight but feels extremely capable and sturdy and yet folds up conveniently to fit into its case (which is a nice little bonus!)

I'm a professional photographer and therefore need quality products to conduct my business with. At the moment, I primarily use this tripod with a camera coming in at 6.5lbs and about $4000 in cost. I have absolutely NO reservations about continuing to use this product in this way. It's been a little over a month and I have no regrets about this purchase. I highly recommend this Slik product (pun intended) and will continue to post updates if anything changes!

The Sherman Tank of tripod legs!

These sticks are amazing! They are heavy however. Not something I'd take on a backpack trip but as far as stabilizing my video, they are awesome. I combined mine with my Manfrotto 502 fluid head for a great combo. It holds my large slider very well with no movement what so ever. Great build quality! I'd highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a stable video tripod. Lastly, the height is perfect for me. I'm 6'3" and this unit will extend up to my eye level no problem. The unlock feature of the legs also allows me to get great low angle shots. I'm very happy with my purchase!

Very sturdy tripod
Verified Purchase
For the price of this tripod, I don't think I could find anything better.

It's of decent weight. Steady in most conditions and rather light for carrying around. There really isn't much to say. It's sturdy and built well. I've had this thing in some pretty crazy conditions too. The one that sticks out is less than 30 degrees stood up in a stream. I was scared to death my camera was going to fall over as their was a decent current, but ti held up and didn't even flinch.

I've also used this Tripod to support a monitor for my photo booth. It's held the monitor and a camera simultaneously using some Teether Tools mounts. I've only had one close call and that was my fault. I find putting the weight of the monitor (because it hangs off center of the tripod) between 2 legs to work best. To further explain, put a single leg going out from the back of the monitor, so looking at the front of the monitor you'd see to legs coming out of the either size. Perhaps one day I'll add a photo.

Again I can't complain about this tripod, it just works and it's very sturdy for my needs, even for a monitor!

Tight, solid, & sturdy.

I've used Slik's lightweight F-740 tripod for several years, I've overloaded it w/ telephoto lenses & always found it to be sturdy & reliable.

So after looking at other exorbitantly priced or shoddily made tripods, I decided to see what Slik had to offer & I was pleasantly surprised to find their Pro 700DX Titanium allow model, at the $115 - $125 pricepoint. For the price this is about as good as it gets for a sturdy, pro-grade tripod. It has sufficient heft to ensure stability and security to any size camera / telephoto rig pivoting on ball, pano or gimbal heads. Comes w/ an allen wrench to adjust the lock tension on the head base, basically you can lock it down hard & nothing will budge one iota.

WOW !!! Better than expected

I purchased as a tripod for a hunting rifle, and paired it to a Sinnofoto Q02U Exquisite CNC Shaped Camera Tripod Ball Head, and man am I impressed. Super solid and stable (not lite) but that's fine . FYI the legs do-not lock open (wish they did) but do have a lot of tension and can be adjusted tighter so they won't fold up on you from recoil (pretty sure that won't be an issue) . I had a hard time deciding on tripod setup being tall (6.2) and did not want to raise center post and still have sturdy legs when fully extended. Solid as a rock !! I Highly recommend it.

Heavy but works well for video. Using a Benro S6 head and movement is smooth as the tripod is stable even mostly extended to the full height. The weight helps a bit here I think.

It's taller than the equivalently priced video tripods (once you price in a $80 fluid head like the Benro S2H or the Manfrotto Micro Fluid head) like the Davis and Stanford ProVista (http://amzn.com/B00009UTCA) which I found a bit short at times.

If you prefer having a flat head rather than the ball heads bundled on the inexpensive video tripods like Davis and Stanford then getting the Slik and the Neewer Tripod Leveling base (http://amzn.com/B00MVNBTDG) gives you a nice solid platform with the same adjustability as a ball head tripod but the ability to use the same flat head on your slider, dolly, etc.

Solid tripod with flexible configurations

The tripod that I had previous to this was a an old half-broken cheap Velbon Victory that someone gave me for free, so as you can imagine the 700DX is a major upgrade that I'm quite happy with. I bought this for use with a  Marumi TB-12 Arca Compatible Ball Head  which I selected based on price, quality, and Arca QR plate compatibility, and it seems to be a solid combination with these legs.

I wish I could compare the legs with ones from other manufacturers at a similar price point, but I'm lacking any experience with those. In any case, this thing is rock solid and gets high marks from everything I've read, and the fact that you can lock the legs into three different positions for various heights is extremely handy. Reversing the center column works quite well, and with a 40mm lens on my 1.5x crop factor D7000 I can extend the legs all the way, reverse the column, slide it to the highest position, point the camera straight down with the legs fully extended in the highest position, and not have any of the legs visible in the frame. So this thing is great for "straight down" angles for copy work or what have you. And for wider angles I'm guessing that locking the legs into the middle position will keep them out of the frame.

My only complaint is that the feet don't have spikes, and it seems like there's no option to add spiked feet that I can find. So far I haven't run into any situations that would benefit from spiked feet though, so i can't really say how much of a problem this might be for me.

It ain't heavy, it's my tripod

I've had this tripod a little over a year and it is a pleasure to use. It is very stable and relatively light weight (but carbon fiber light).
I use it for landscapes, panoramas, and astronomical photography. I appreciate the foam covered upper legs on cold nights (I hope the foam is durable). Also the leg extension locks are easy to operate in the cold .
It is rated at 22LBs which seem like a lot. My set up at the heaviest about 10LBs for photo gear and to that I sometimes add a weight bag in windy conditions. Occasionally I wish the feet had a spike option but it really has not seriously hampered shooting.

I think it is well priced, with good quality components and features - a good value and recommended.

Very satisfied. The tripod is very stable and strong and light enough for me that it is not an intrusion to carry. I topped it with a Manfrotto 496RC2 ball head, and the two complement each other perfectly, making a very stable shooting platform. I am 5'10" and with my Nikon D90 with battery pack/vertical grip attached, I can operate while fully standing without having to extend the center post. In fact, the center post is made of two sections which unscrew in the center to allow the center post to be removed and inverted. The tripod is high enough without the center post elevated that I permanently removed one half of the post to reduce a little weight. I would definitely recommend this tripod and would purchase another in a heartbeat. The only slightly negative comment is that it is only equipped with rubber feet, and does not have retractable spikes. However, this was well defined in the listing, and was not a surprise on recipt - just a possible suggestion for improvement.

Custom Questions & answers

Question:what is the difference between the Slik Pro 700DX 615317 and the 615900 models?
Answer:The 615317 also seems to cost $20 more.

Question:Can I attach a slider to it?
Answer:Hello. Yes, so long as the slider you are using will accept either a 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 head mount thread then you should be able to use it with no problem. The only issue would be that with no head on the tripod - this item is for the tripod legs only - your capacity to change the orientation / level / etc of that slider is going to be limited.

Question:Is this tripod complete with a head, or is it just legs?
Answer:If I remember correctly, this is a tripod only. Most folks who buy a good tripod like this have a specific head in mind, or, like me, already have one. I have a ball-head that works great. Really like this tripod.

Question:Is the weight really just 2 lbs. As shown in the photo? Thank you
Answer:Hello, looks like Amazon has the incorrect information for this item.
Tripod weight: 5.88 lbs (2.67kg)
Shipping weight: 8 lbs

Question:Does the center column include a weight hook?
Answer:No Hook. But the tri-pod is solid own it's on. If you want/need added weight just hang your camera bag around the top from the shoulder strap.

Question:This doesn't include the head, correct? If so, what head to buy to match it? Any other brand ball head ok? Thanks
Answer:No head included. Any ball head with 3/8in screw should fit (most are capable of accommodating both 3/8in and 1/4in).

Question:Can anyone tell me if the center collumn has threads in the center? So you can reduce its length by half?
Answer:Yes the center column is in two sections that can be unscrewed.

Question:Is the center column removable? May I use only legs and a ball head without a center column?
Answer:You can remove the center column but you won't be able to use a ball head without it.

Question:is the spread of legs adjustable to fit in tight places?
Answer:Yes, this is a larger format tripod but is completely adjustible to fit wherever.

Question:Will this work with a Gimbal head ?swing arm?
Answer:Yes
