Pixel 3 owners... this will give you faster charging

Let me first address the reason a Pixel owner would buy this: rapid charging. I have a Pixel 3. This adapter does trigger the "rapid charging" indicator. However, I would say it doesn't quite reach the speed of the Pixel 3 wall charger. It is still a worthwhile investment if you want faster charging in the car. You must use the USB-C port when charging the phone. I would absolutely buy it again if I needed another PD charger for my PIxel phone.

I did hesitate though...

The post that this adapter destroys your Pixel phone was concerning for me (might have been a few of them). I used it for about a month, watched and felt my phone after using it, to see if my phone was being fried by this adapter before I left this review. For me, there have been a couple times where it felt warm but it was infrequent. I am pleased to report that my Pixel 3 is still fully functional and I notice no problems.

It is awful that someone's phone was fried. I don't know what happened, maybe it was some electrical issue with the car or maybe a defective adapter. All I can do is say I have had no problems and I am fully satisfied with this adapter.

Oh... I use the USB-A part of the adapter for a Bluetooth receiver and it works fine.

**UPDATE 5/8/2019** I've been using this on my Pixel 3 since January. I haven't experienced any problems.
**UPDATE 9/2/2019** Used it all through the Arizona summer. No problems. It's still working great!

Power Delivery everything.

I wish all my products were already USB-C with power delivery, it is the future and anker seems to be leading the industry with their chargers, with this being no exception. It chargers fast my iPhone X on the car, so a 15 minute drive adds up to about 30-40% battery. Its amazing, it actually charges the iPhone running a GPS app faster than the charger that comes in a box chargers a locked phone, thats nuts.

I do recommend it and bought 2 of them already, just so I don't have to change from car to car.

PS - IMPORTANT: You need the original iPhone cable sold by Apple. No other USB-C cable will fast charge the iPhone, at least until September 2018

works with Google Pixel 3xl (using c-cable port)

Purchased due to lighting deal discount, and wasn't sure it would be compatible with my Google Pixel 3xl for Rapid Charging. Using an Anchor c-to-c 2.0 cable (powerline+), IT WORKED!!! I've only used it twice, but both times my phone rapid charged without interruption.
It did not rapid charge using the Anchor USB 3.0-to-c cable - but it didn't show the "slowly charging" message, either.
I have not tested this with any other device - I specifically purchased this to charge my pixel 3xl while traveling.
Have not left it plugged into the charging port while the vehicle is turned off, so not sure if it will drain car battery. I haven't noticed any lights/charging indicators while using it (during the day) so not sure if leaving it plugged in would be an issue.

Update 10/2019
There is a blue ring that lights up when plugged into the charging port. In my vehicle, this light turns off when the car is off. I still don't leave the adapter plugged in over night, but I suspect it does not continue to draw off the car's battery.
I do notice my phone will get a little warm, but I have not had any issues with overheating or damage to the charging port on my phone. I take the phone's case off if I intend to leave it plugged into the adapter for more than just a few minutes, but that's mostly because I have a cheap-quality case. I do have an Anker USB C-to-C cable, I don't know if this has contributed to my success with using this charger. I am seriously considering buying another Anker adapter/cable, because my spouse constantly takes mine out of my vehicle and I hate being without it. Still 5 stars.

Works Great for 2018 15" i9 MacBook Pro, iPhone XS, & More!

This is the perfect 12V USB adapter! With both a USB-A and USB-C output, it provides the convenience of both ports, and the output to fast-charge with both. This adapter reaches a full 30W (measured with a USB-C multimeter) on the USB-C PD port, allowing me to recharge my MacBook Pro while I'm driving, or fast-charge my iPhone. The USB-A port, while not USB-C PD, still recharges my iPhone at a considerable speed. The constant blue glow of the charger may not be for everyone, but it looks very sleek and professional. Once again, another great product from Anker!

Works well!

The first unit I received appeared to fast charge just fine; however, the blue light ring flashed instead of remaining solid. I contacted Anker support about it and they promptly sent me a replacement. The new one worked fine, with the blue light ring remaining solid. I did a time test of charging speed. The device charged my iPhone X from 7% to 76% in exactly one hour. Not bad, considering I was using my phone somewhat during that time and the vehicle I was in was not running. I did use the Apple USB-C to lightning cable as suggested. (Note that I have never heard the "double ding" others claim. This hasn't hampered the charging ability of this device.)

Excellent Anker USB Car Charger!

Another excellent Anker product! I've stuck with Anker for any of my computer cabling & accessory needs. They are always awesome products and work really well. Quality-made, they are durable & rugged and have always lasted through a bunch of uses & repeated plugging & unplugging. This car charger is great at charging both of the two devices (at the same time!) that I have to carry with me. As a plus, the light-up rim and ports are convenient without being obtrusive or glaring. Ultimately, sometimes Anker might be a little more expensive than other options, but they definitely outlast any competition and are totally worth it.

Absolutely best on the market tried and proven!

This is the absolute best car charger on the market with blazing fast charging speeds and the versatility to use either USB (A) style or USB C. This allows you to be able to charge high power consumption items such as laptops via USB C although for my laptop (ASUS Zephyrus G14) it shows low power charge buts that’s due to its primary power supply is 180 Watt plug. Also used this same one to charge the DELL XPS 13 and it’s primary power supply is 45 watts so it will charge it the same but due to it being lower than the primary plug it also shows low power charge but yet charges both without a single issue. If you’re looking for a car charger stay away from the cheap unregulated ones from the gas station and the cheap ones here. Go with a name that’s trusted and will provide you with what you are looking for. You pay a lot for your electronic devices don’t risk destroying them by using cheap products. This one is the best one to get.

🔌🌩️ PowerIQ 2.0 is all we need... with the addition of PD

Also buy the one other  Anker PowerIQ 2.0 device: wall charger . It closely emulates the many other fasterness charging protocols including Qualcomm's QuickCharge 3.0. (Not yet QuickCharge 4.0, but I do not doubt PowerIQ 3.0 will be including the planned voltages currently disabled in firmware for PowerIQ 2.0. Read between the PressRelease lines.).

⚡ The iPhone users who travel with me appreciate the PD. For the older-iphone people I keep a usb A lightnight cable. Everyone else benefits from the other two of these car chargers in the car.

⚡ I await multiple PowerIQ 2.0 ports in a single car charger.

⚡ My
MakerHawk USB power tester  approves of Anker claims of awesomeness

buy:
Anker Powerline+ II Lightning Cable (6ft), MFi Certified . I use red for  USB C to C , and  A to micro , so Gold for iphone.

Please don't buy any of the cheap fake-certified PD cables or USB C to lightning cables on amazon; wait for anker versions of these.

I have retired the
anker 42Watt 2-port QC3/IQ1 car charger  as a hand-me-down.

Only one Anker device has ever failed on me. A powerbank (
Anker PowerCore+ 10050 ) used a few times before being lost for a few years (then found).

For my purchased out of pocket phones (to keep vzw grandfathered unlimited data) I trust only Anker charging devices.

Works exactly as advertised

Before setting my eyes on this I purchased a Philips 60W charger, because I wanted something that I could use with my MacBook Pro 15 while in my car, in addition to charging phones. The Phillips is supposedly able to deliver 3A@20V via PD, but unfortunately when connected my laptop never detected the power source, regardless of which USB-C cables I tried including the OEM cable that came with the laptop. Then I connected a Surface Laptop 3 which works with 30W (2A@15V) PD chargers, it would keep flapping between its battery and the Philips charger as the power source. There is a Samsung OEM charger with a 45W USB-C PD port and a 15W USB-A port, but it is not carried by any large retailer except AT&T Wireless and the few reviews I was able to find weren't exactly glowing. Then I came across this Anker charger. I was not aware that 1.5A@20V was a valid PD profile, but apparently it works! When connected, it is able to charge my MacBook Pro - it is slow especially while the laptop is in use but works well enough for me, I actually have a 120V outlet in the vehicle, the Apple OEM charger is heavy and falls out of the outlet easily so it is not practical when the vehicle is in motion. The Anker charger works well with my Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 as well. My Note 10+ phone is capable of 45W charging, I am unable to get more than 15W even when plugged into the 30W PD port, but it is not really a surprise as there must be something proprietary in how Samsung devices talk to each other, because I have not seen any non-Samsung power source deliver more. Overall this is a great value and highly recommended.

Exceptional car charger with PD for fast charging iPhone X or Nintendo Switch

I was waiting for Anker to make a car charger with PD. Purchased this for my iPhone X and Nintendo Switch. For the iPhone X the phone does ding twice indicating it is fast charging. I am using an Apple USB-C to lighting cable. As well as with the Nintendo Switch, it does charge while in use using a USB-C to USB-C cable. The unit is well built and feels solid, and the blue light ring looks really good.

Question & Answer

Question :

What are the usb pd output voltage specs for this device...ie What is maximum voltage/current output combinations available?

Answer :

The output of the power delivery port is 5V=3A/9V=3A/15V=2A/20V=1.5A

Question :

Why is the anker 30w version shown as the "newer" version of this product? what disadvantages does this product have over the 30w version?

Answer :

That's not correct. This one has an IQ2 port, while the older "newer" model is an original IQ port. However this IQ2 is rated at 18W, when the Anker IQ2 spec is 24W... not sure why, but it's still more than the 12W max of the original IQ.

Question :

What phone cables use the PD port?

Answer :

If you use the USB-C port to charge the iPhone X/8/8 Plus, the USB-C to lightning cable is needed. If you use the USB-C port to charge the Type-C devices like the Pixel/Pixel XL, you can use the USB-C to C cable.

Question :

Can this fast-charge phones with QuickCharge 3.0 capabilities?

Answer :

The charger offers a PowerIQ 2.0 port ( USB-A port ), it supports to quick charge the QC 3.0 devices like Samsung S8/S7/S9.

Question :

Will this do simultaneous pd over both usb c and usb a ports?

Answer :

Yes

Question :

What version of USB power delivery does this support? In other words, what volts-amps combinations does the USB-C port support?

Answer :

PDO (Power Delivery Objects) 2.0
5.0V⎓3.0A (15W)
9.0V⎓3.0A (27W)
15.0V⎓2.0A (30W)
20.0V⎓1.5A (30W)

Question :

Can you keep this in your cigarette lighter port when your car is off and not in use or will it drain car battery?

Answer :

Unless your vehicle cigarette lighter port remains on when powered off, there will be no battery drain. I leave mine plugged all the time. No problem.

Question :

Will this quick charge the new 2018 google pixel xl smart phone?

Answer :

If the new Pixel XL also uses Power Delivery like the original one did, then yes it will!

Question :

Does this work with the Pixel 6?

Answer :

This charger has two outputs; one is PD (USB C Power Delivery up to 30W) and a Anker quick charge USB A output. You can use either output to charge any device. Naturally, the PD output will charge faster because it can adjust the output current and voltage to match the device being charged. The Anker Quick Charge output can provide a fat charge too but at a lower current and voltage than the PD output. The PD output will charge the Pixel 6 with no problem.

Question :

ugh i thought the type c to c supposed to charge as well cause its not working

Answer :

Consider that your cord may be damaged. It happens. I've had to return new cables that didn't work well straight out of the box.

This car charger (bought Dec 2021) works great for fast charging my newish Google Pixel 5a using a USB-C to USB-C cable setup. It replaced a slower standard charging setup I had previously.

It's also possible you just got a bad charging unit, defects creep up. Consider getting a replacement vs a refund if needed. Good luck!
