Great Camera for Podcasting!

We have four of these cameras in our podcasting setup at the moment and they are incredible! They immediately took our production value and image quality to the next level. I run them into a Blackmagic Switcher and we record on 1080p to get longer battery life, reduced file sizes when editing, and lesser upload time to YouTube. The 1080p on these looks amazing, especially when you have a decent lighting setup. I also can record in 4K with these cameras which also looks great, but I have no need for that at the moment since I use these cameras only for podcasting and broadcast style productions but I like having the option. The battery life for one battery is a little over 3hrs on 1080p and is heavily reduced when using 4K, but they do come with chargers that can be hooked up to the cameras while recording so they don’t run out of battery. While I was doing research for my podcasting setup, I came across the equipment Joe Rogan uses and he uses the previous version of these which is the G40, but I couldn’t find many of those and this camera is an upgrade anyway so I just bought these and I haven’t looked back. These cameras have HDMI but beware it’s mini HDMI on the side that hooks into the camera. So purchase the right cords! In summation, these cameras are amazing for podcasting and make your images look very professional but I wouldn’t use these for any type of filmmaking such as short films or movies. That type of work is best left to cameras with interchangeable lenses. Hope this helps!

fantastic video recorder

My first high quality camcorder. Beautiful stable movies. indoor low light capability is amazing. Bokeh is perfect in blurred backgrounds at f2.8. Clean hdmi output is perfect with no status stuff from camera. stabilization is very good. Much larger and heavier that the consumer level cameras but still hand-holdable although i purchased a fluid ball head for my good macro tripod. most welcome is a very decent wide angle capability. i could care less about high power zoom. but being able to record entire family in a room is awesome with no special lens attachments. This thing can really do closeups too. fun to experiment with. Wish it had a stop action intervalometer but the slow and fast motion is very good. so far no complaints even though its pretty expensive.

Good optical zoom, gets the job done

I needed a secondary camera for my church's live streaming. Last year - I purchased the Vixia HF G21. That has since been discontinued, so this was the most comparable to that, just 4K instead of 1080P.

I have both cameras side by side in the back of the sanctuary. One is a wide shot for worship and this one, the G50, is a tight shot for the teaching/sermon time.

This has enabled us to improve our live streams by making it feel more like they are in the room with us to have a close up.

The only downfall, and I think this is more with any camera in the setup I have, I had to set it to manual focus because if there was any lighting change, it would throw a fit on the auto focus, but its a good 50+ feet away from where I have it zoomed into, so there is a lot of room for change, but I set the manual focus and have no issues with it.

Glad I went for G60

I am still learning all the settings and have not gone manual yet, but the video quality is outstanding and the camera is generally easy to use. I did a project with external mic and boom, and sound quality was great. I like the dual slots - use one for video and one for photos. Very happy with it - worth it to go up from G50 for the larger sensor if you can afford it.

Very Nice Camcorder

I have purchased several DSLR cameras for travel, but have always been disappointed with them. If you're at a large museum, a historical sight, mountain top, etc., a camera doesn't cut it, you need a camcorder. After a few practice shots at a local park, I think this is what I needed. I was very impressed with the resolution of the video. Setting it up to work like you want doesn't take long. Learning how to use gain instead of iso might take another couple of days, but this camera makes the effort worth my time. The cost is about half of what a 5D Mark IV was three years ago, so the price is good too.

Worth the Money

We first tried a cheaper camera about 15% of the price. While it kind of worked, it would break up the videos into 30 minute sizes which made more work to compile and distribute. This Camera doesn't do that. The image looks great, needing almost no processing. A little trim at the ends potentially depending on how started and stopped. We use a tripod and a patch cord for the audio in to reduce noise of our chapel and get primarily the speakers during the service.

Great for live-streaming

Purchased this camera as an upgrade to our church livestream. When COVID hit, all we had was an old Cannon HD camcorder that was about 10 years old. I was pleasantly surprised by how much better this does with the limited light we have. Instant major upgrade in picture quality. Very happy we bought this camera.

The camera that I was looking for

The most important things for me was that it worked well, has 4K recording and most important for me was to be able to record giving continuous power while plugged in. The other camera was disappointing because it could only record using the battery and for me that’s a problem. Now I’m unlimited with the recording options and this camera has great features too! It packs a punch, I tell my friends it’s not a toy.

Different menu access than Canon Vixia HF-G30

Picture quality surpasses HF-G30 at 8MBps. Biggest difference is using the menu button and joystick to initialize the SD card. NO wi-fi to transfer/share video, but, I understand that method is very slow. Probably why Canon omitted that feature on the G-50......... Overall very happy with unit. Adorama two day delivery was excellent.

Question & Answer

Question :

what size of Filters would be best? thanks

Answer :

Thank you for your time. In regards to your inquiry this model offers a 58mm filter diameter.

Question :

Is it worth to upgrade from G21?

Answer :

G21 is Full HD. If your output is Full HD and you don’t crop (as in zoom-in, not cut front or back) then the quality will be similar. If you do crop (or digitally zoom) during post processing, then with HF G50 you have more resolution to play with (4x) so quality will be more superior.

Question :

Does this have an SDI output?

Answer :

No, it does not.

Question :

Can I hook up a live preview monitor to this camera?

Answer :

Yes, through the mini-HDMI port. It is also a "clean" output so you can record it live. Unfortunately while it can record internally to 4k, its output is only 1080p60.

Question :

Are you able to take photos as well with this Camcorder ?

Answer :

Yes, there is a “Photo” button on screen and will take a photo if you press it even during video shooting.

Question :

Two Questions: 1) How is low light (indoors and out) performance? 2) How is images stabilization?

Answer :

I have sold 3 of these cameras to churches through my A/V company. They perform very well in low light indoors with excellent color. Have not used stabilization since these are on a tripod or compare them in low light outside. They are very nice cameras. I have been shooting video and working with cameras since 1980. The Canon line of cameras have a long reputation for great color saturation. These do well in the church environments I sold them to record and stream video.

Question :

what's still image size?

Answer :

I'm still learning about the camera, so there may be a way to select a higher resolution. But I just took a picture and its size is 3840 x 2160.

Question :

Can you put different lenses on it?

Answer :

NO !!!!!!

Question :

will it record 4K hand held or does it need a tripod?

Answer :

Shoots hand held

Question :

What is the battery life of the G60?

Answer :

I use after market WASABI Power BTR-BP828-JWP purchased on Amazon with no issues. Full charge shows about 202 minutes available. At their price point I carry a spare. Most of my shooting a done with just one battery use. My original Canon battery is third in line for use. And I have never put it in service.
