Amazing 2X Barlow Lens (also has a "hidden bonus")

This Celestron Omni 2X Barlow Lens is amazing for the money! Crystal clear optics and instantly doubles the power of any telescope eyepiece.
20mm eyepiece becomes a 10mm eyepiece (i.e. if using a 1000mm aperture telescope, the 20mm eyepiece gives 50X power. Use the Celestron Omni 2X Barlow Lens, and it translates your eyepiece to a 10mm and also 100X power!).

The "hidden bonus" that I mentioned in the title? Look closely at the image of the Celestron Omni... See the bottom of it? That's where the main Barlow Lens is. You can unscrew it, remove it, and screw it into the bottom of ANY 1.25" telescope eyepiece! So, not only do you have a main 2X Barlow Lens, but you get the additional " hidden bonus" of a 1.5X booster lens as well!

Plain: 20mm eyepiece w/ 1000mm aperture scope: 50X power.
2X Barlow: 20mm (now 10mm) w/ 1000mm aperture scope: 100X power.
1.5X lens from Barlow: 20mm (now 13.3mm) w/ 1000mm aperture scope: 75.18X power.

Good Value and Excellent Quality

Exactly what I was hoping for! 2x Barlow arrived in perfect condition, was easy to “install,” and dramatically enhanced the quality of my entire experience. I purchased this in a bundle with the Celestron Zoom Eyepiece, and I would recommend the combination to any “amateur astronomer” and/or curious adult with or without an even more curious child. The 2x Barlow and Celestron Zoom Eyepiece makes for a much more efficient experience that dramatically improved the odds of my zeroing-in on some of the more amazing things in our sky that tend to cause more than one spontaneous “wow.” I did my research enough to know this was a quality item at a very good price. I’m not saying there aren’t better options out there for certain people, but this has met and exceeded all of my expectations. It turns out that staring at the night sky with my son is one of the great gifts I’ve been able to harness out of the crazy quarantined would of today. I am very very happy with this purchase!

Sharp Optics !

Very nice 2x Barlow, very sharp and a definite improvement over the cheaper 3x Barlow that comes with the Celestron 127 EQ and 114 EQ telescopes. No noticeable chromatic aberration compared with the cheaper Barlows. On the Celestron Powerseeker 114EQ (no. 21045, fantastic optics btw, for the price) I use it combined with a Celestron 9mm Omni eyepice to give me a sharp 4.5mm equivalent magnification. With the $33 Celestron single axis RA motor drive installed and humming along I can see the two main bands on Jupiter very clearly, and two additional fainter bands. Five stars for the quality of the optics. Very much worth the $42 (on Amazon) investment.

Edit: To see how well it works, see the pictures I posted below (taken with a modified logitech c310 usb webcam) ...

A must!

So I just recently bought my son a Celestron 22150 Omni XLT AZ 102mm telescope for his 7th birthday, not knowing anything about astronomy this was offered as something customers also bought with their purchase, so I figured what the hell, and bought it. When I 1st tried to use it I was a little confused and I had to look up how to use a Barlow lens. Wow, what a difference this little piece of equipment makes, they are pretty versatile and depending on where you put it you can get 1.5x mag (unscrew the lens and screw to the eyepiece), 2x, or supposedly even 3x (with the 2x if you put it into the telescope 1st and then attach the diagonal mirror, I'm trying this tonight!). And after watching some videos I super happy that I bought this, Barlow lenses are a must.

Improved magnification but slightly more blurry

We have a 10mm lens that can fit the moon comfortably in the view finder but Jupiter and Saturn are very small. With this addition, objects appear twice as large and though they sometimes appear slightly less crisp, I suspect it is because I’m seeing more of the effects of the atmosphere and I haven’t adjusted the telescope (Astronomers without borders one sky) since right after I received it.

Overall happy with the purchase, though maybe $60 is a bit steep for what you get?

Great upgrade; make the most of your eyepieces.

If you bought a telescope and still have the cheap barlow that it came with, you may very well want to upgrade to this. I had a no-name plastic one that introduced tons of chromatic aberration. I upgraded to this and it makes a huge difference.
It is not an eyepiece; it doubles the magnification of whatever eyepiece you put in it. A 20 mm eyepiece will perform like a 10 mm eyepiece. You can economize on the number of eyepieces by getting one of these barlows. A kit of 6mm, 10mm, and 15mm would then have the options of 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7.5mm, 10mm, and 15mm.

No distortion

The lens coatings look high quality, and I noticed no distortion even when paired with a short eyepiece. “Shorty” design; easy to focus and look through too, since it isn’t so tall as to stick way out of the diagonal. The thumbscrew for attaching an eyepiece is big and easy to tighten. The pictures don’t do it justice, the finish is very striking and shiny. Pairs well with the Omni-series Plössl eyepieces.

Very good quality

The pictures don't do this justice, I bought a cheap ~$15 Barlow when I first got into astronomy, and it worked but this feels great, the upgrade from plastic a lens to a glass lens with very nice coating is a worthwhile upgrade. I am truly in love with this compared to my old one. To anyone considering a $15 Barlow over something like this, it is totally worth the extra money.

A nice boost in magnification for your telescope eyepieces

I bought this Barlow lens to help boost the magnification of the eyepieces on my Celestron telescope. I tested it out with a 20mm, 10mm and 6mm eyepiece and it boosted each one quite nicely. Paired with my 6mm lens I could see the rings of Saturn much closer and clearer. The only complaint is that the brightness of the image seemed to degrade a little with the Barlow lens stacked, but otherwise it totally does the job at an affordable price.

There is light loss, but expected

The first day I put it into my awb onesky with a 10mm lens and looked down the street. In the attached picture you can see the difference. There is some light loss, but the image is larger.
Saturn is tiny, with the barlow it’s still tiny, but it is noticeably larger.
The light reduction might even help with looking at the moon, for my scope the 10mm lens has the whole moon visible, with the barlow I’m looking at quarters of the moon’s edge.
A higher power lens would be better, but this is a pretty good cheap option.
Photo is taken it an iphone with the clamp that holds it on the eyepiece.

Zhumell 2" 2x ED Barlow Lens with 1.25" Adapter

Question & Answer

Question :

Will this work with the celestron travel 70 scope?

Answer :

This works with ANY scope that takes a 1-1/4" eyepiece.

Question :

Is this a plastic lens oe glass?

Answer :

Greetings Mr. Scott,
NEVER accept any lens system made of plastic. Only the finest optical glass must be considered for astronomical telescopes. Even astronomical mirrors must be made of glass with proper parameters and the highest quality.
Steve Franks

Question :

Dimensions? this website sez 6x8x8". that's pretty long. and VERY fat.

Answer :

1.25 OD x 1.5 OD x 3.0"long and packaging is 1.75x1.75x3.5"

Question :

is this work with 1.25 eyepiece telescope? like NEXSTAR 4SE!

Answer :

Yes it does.

Question :

Just bought this item, I've received it but it sounds like the lens is moving or rattling around inside the barlow. Is this normal for this product?

Answer :

The lens part can be unscrewed from the body and screwed onto an eyepiece and then inserted into the focuser on the telescope. Be sure it is tight to the body of the barlow. If the lens is screwed off the body and it still rattles I think something is wrong.

Question :

It does not work

Answer :

I suggest you have a friend who knows telescopes look at it. If it is bad then return it.

Question :

does this come apart? im missing the center and bottom. there's no lens, just the top tube. bought it a year and a half ago and never used it

Answer :

I am not aware of it coming apart, the glue holding it together must have failed.

Question :

How does it work do you have to by more than just this?

Answer :

Just bought that lens and attached it to the telescope. don't need anything else

Question :

Why does my barlow seem switched out, it does not have a gray lens cell (instead black) and its barrel is not smooth like Celestron's site pics.

Answer :

By originals, not fakes.

Question :

Has anyone tried this in a Meade 102 infinity? Was it better than the one included with the scope?

Answer :

Greetings Scooter,

Yes, the Omni would be a better Barlow.

Generally, accessories supplied with such a scope will be "budget" equipment. You may want to consider investing in better eyepieces first, like a few good priced Plossls, being careful NOT to duplicate any magnifications with your present Barlow, or the Omni.

One of the objects of a Barlow is, more or less, double your eyepiece collection without producing duplicates. Which to go for first is always a tough choice.

Clear Skies!
